OCPM Experience

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So in case you haven't heard, OCPM is going through some changes. The notes are no longer printed for students. Not that big of a deal except we weren't informed of this decision until the second week of classes. The computer lab only has a few decent printers with each student printing a hundred pages a day. A more recent change is students are only given a hour for midterms under sixty questions. Too bad we didn't find out until we walked in the classroom for the test. The school has every one's email address, right? As a future podiatrist, many are looking forward to lower anatomy lab. That is a very important class for our future occupation. At OCPM, the lab assistant with her BA in English is not very helpful. The PhD in biological anthropology isn't much better. You'll mostly be taught by one third year student and a colored anatomy atlas. Think I'm exaggerating, ask a student not employed by the school on the tour. Who am I to complain, $26,000 for a professional school that is far from professional. Good luck with your decisions.

Sounds like you failed out of school bro. Too bad.

Sounds like Maria failed you. You should've studied harder. This is what everyone on SDN warns against. Don't just go to pod school because you got accepted. Any shmuck gets accepted. Only those who study hard will succeed.

*not picking a side*

as much as it makes sense that one must study very VERY hard in a grad program, any for that matter on the grad level let alone pod, thats no excuse for a school to be subpar on every level-as this sounds. However this guy that started this thread could be just a slacker. Suppose he/she isn't? then what? universities have a duty to help students to succeed as much as possible and not just take their money-thats just greed 101 and those sorts of schools (note: ONLY IF THIS IS TRUE) should be shut down IMO.

There is no need to banter this poster and make accusations one way or another about their pass/fail status.

One can simply use logic and reason to deduce what this all means.

If this is true it should correlate with their board failure rate...

And if it is false, then they should probably be getting close to 100% pass rates on the boards.

Many of the pod schools get 100% pass rates so the question is

100% pass rate indicates to me a school that has a decent program that is above those that have much lower pass rates. It's that simple to me.

So what % pass their part 1 boards at ocpm?

So my question for those who are defending it, is there anything untruthful about what he said especially concerning

1. the notes?
2. the profs experince and degrees?

Regardless of what you think or say residency programs will be able to spot the incompetent ones very quickly when their academic scores don't correlate with their work ethic and overall knowledge and board pass/fail.

I actually do very well in the classes. Everything I've written is sadly true. I am obviously disappointed with my experience.

OCPM Pod, keep working hard and thanks for pointing out what's going on from your perspective and maybe instead of jumping all over you, your fellow students should raise their expectations regarding their own education.

Can you honestly say you respect Maria as an instructor? I actually do well on the exams. Everything I said is true. The PD exam was scheduled from 1-4pm then as we're sitting down B. Strong says we have an hour to take it. Unless that decision was made at lunch, I would've like an email. As far as lower anatomy, count the number of students to instructors/TAs. I pay a lot of money in tuition at OCPM and I expected more. I think it is very close minded to write me off as a poor student with an axe to grind. Maybe next time post some facts to back up your opinion or at least something interesting. "Shmuck" is spelled "schmuck" but that word is very complicated.

Yes, it's easy to write you off as a failure (especially coincidentally EXACTLY after the 1st LEA midterm.). Also, it's "closed minded" not "close". But, English must be complicated as well. Boohoo, cry about 1hr vs. 2hr. in PD. It's an easy class anyway. I feel no sympathy. Also, do you really need LEA spoonfed to you? I rarely saw Dr. Siesel in the lab last year and no one cared or cried about it. You basically teach yourself. Welcome to grad school bub.

I know for a fact this fellow DID fail out of school. I laugh everytime I see him around these forums. Thanks for the comedic relief brosef!

I suspect that PD is short for physical diagnosis? That's an easy class for OCPM students? Does that mean that it's a "blow off class for you guys?"

It usually takes a medical student a good year to get good at it!

The leaders of this profession worked very hard to get the right to do their own history and physicals and to hear all this is disturbing to say the least! This is exactly the type of thing that makes the rest of the professional world look at us with suspect.

As I said, I don't respect your opinion about anything, so I don't know why you bother to respond. You've proven yourself to be a joke.

Did you not make it as a dentist? Who cares, you're missing the point. I don't care about coloring pictures in lecture but I would like some one there in lab if I have a question. I do pay for it in my tuition. If it wasn't for a great third year who held a lab review, most of the class would've done poorly on the exam. Seriously though douche bag, keep defending it, you make such valid points.

Sounds like a behavioral problem to me. Is this the quality of student at your school that you are representing, btw, aren't you a classless president or something like that? If so, I don't know what to say.

Might want to change your screen name. Thanks for donating your tuition money towards the school though.

Now you're starting to make some sense OSUDDS!!!!

But you mispelled it... it's spelled

PHALEYOU're

Keep up the good work!

ROTFLMAO.

OSUDDS Drop Out and DPM student follower, do you two tools work for OCPM? These pitiful ad hominem attacks are pretty weak. Does the fact that I'm right upset you that much. You're right it is after the lower midterm but with three questions thrown out, I would have to be pretty dumb to get less than a C-. The more I think about it, I might know you OSUDDS. Luckily not personally but there are only a few douche bags walking around with an OSU hat on in the upper classes. I think you are an overweight loser who proudly sports his ocpm sweatshirt everyday you're at school. You're the joke who defines "C equals doctor." Damn, you're a waste of time.

Ouch that was brutal, but probably necessary by the sounds of it.

Guys like that are threatened by students like you who would raise the academic bar too high for them to get past.

They like old tests and probably have the biggest stack of them in the class. They are neither academics nor are they leaders.

They are simply background noise that will quickly fade after graduating...

if you need help in a class go to the educational resources department and get a tutor, im not saying anyone's performance is poor. Tutors are used struggling students and students whom are doing well.

ocpm is in alot of flux right now, the circumstances just prepare you for the kind of stress you will face out in the real world. in residency, clinic, or externships not everything will be spoon fed to you .

If you have a problem with a class, work up the chain of command until you get results but do so respectfully. Dont let your character, reputation, or words reflect badly on yourself or your class mates.
( this comes from experience from what i have seen my own classmates do in the class of 2010 and the reactions from the faculty)

and yes what they pulled on that exam was shady, go to your course coordinator or academic coucil rep and get something done about it.

good luck with the rest of the semester, if you need help pm me if you have questions about lower extremity anatomy etc, i would love to help anyone that is in need
