Ocpm

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm interviewing at OCPM on Nov. 10th! I will let you know how it goes. I interviewed at Temple earlier this week and it was interesting. From what I hear, OCPM is a very laid back interview and they just want to get to know you. But I can tell you (from my Temple interview) that you should be prepared for any type of question about anything! Just be confident in who you are and what you want (i.e. to become a podiatric physician) and you will do just fine. Im really excited to see what OCPM is all about, their staff has been so helpful in the application process and in scheduling/setting up the interview, so I can't wait to meet them in person!

OSUDDS: Hey I am looking at applying to the Ohio school also. I am just curious what your overall/science GPA are so I know what ballpark I might need to be in. Thanks!

(by the way, how on earth do you interview and get accepted in the same day? Do they have plenty of seats and no applicants? That seems crazy but pretty cool anyways. I just swtiched over from optometry yesterday and podiatry doesn't seem to be that competetive at all. Its kinds nice) Thanks

yeah, the questions asked at ohio were very different from the other schools at which i have interviewed. they seemed to be a little more abstract, like "when did you learn time management?" and things like that. it was cool, and was definately laid back! best of luck!!

I am a first year student at OCPM. If any of you have any questions, feel free to ask them. It may take some time for me to reply though since we have tests this week. But I will get to them eventually. 🙂

Good luck with gross anatomy dns3110, I know its a big unit but hopefuly the KTE mock practical would be more useful this time

So how slammin are the new facilities at OCPM? You guys are moving in the summer of 2007 right? Did they give you details on the building layout and such? Any pictures? Thanks all

Those pictures that you posted Dr. Feelgood, is that where OCPM students will do all their classes and work? Or are there more buildings? Also, the building is beautiful and gives a sense of nostalgia. However, so does that workout equipment! haha jk

I'll have to let Podman answer those ?s b/c I have not clue.

I do agree that the building is awesome, very historical. But the equipment in the gym and kitchen where scary. I also wonder where they will have lecture?

Hey there, yes we will have classes in the building - as they are being currently constructed and should be ready when we move there in Fall of 2007. We will have all our classes in that building and the clinic situation for third and fourth year students will be at multiple locations: Huron hospital (trauma hospital for the cleveland clinic foundation), VA hospital, and a foot and ankle clinic in downtown cleveland (or east cleveland) - they way that things will work for third years is that classes will run all day Tuesday and Thursday while Clinic rotations or days will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - so its an ideal schedule in the sense that there will be no need to commute from school to clinic.

I believe that they are also building a foot and ankle clinic near the new campus but I think the downtown clinics are alot better (busier of course) since the new campus is in the suburbs.

As far the gym situation goes, we will be getting new equipment and perhaps maintain our membership at the Walker Center (which is near the Case western reserve campus).

Are they building lecture halls or are they just renovating the conference rooms? The reason I ask is it gets hard to see if you don't have stadium seating (I love stadium seating).

I think they're actually building lecture halls - its definately still in progress...and i agree, stadium seating is most ideal.

That new building worked out to be a great deal because we were worried if the Case Western professors and instructors would be hesitant to teach (considering that they'd have to commute 20-25 min. further), but they're all excited about it, which is great news for our future students.

This building is beautiful!!! I definitely would like to apply to OCPM next fall. Thanks for the site Feelgood.

i will be there next year. i am excited! 😀

I have a buddy who is a first year at OCPM. He said that the anatomy is taught by a dentist. How is that? Does he teach your lower limb too? He must not have liked dentistry.

Anatomy, taught by a dentist? Do they have RNs teaching physiology etc? Nothing beats learning the basics from the best.

He teaches anatomy at Case Western's Dental School also. Lower limb is taught by a Podiatrist.

I heard that the buildings for OCPM are pretty old and ghetto. Are they really that bad from what you guys have experienced? But I also heard that many Pod schools have really old buidlings too.

news flash. ocpm is moving anyway. also, i know barry just got a new building too.

sweet! any details on when they will move?

before you get all excited over this piece of news whiskers, you should probably know that he is a dentist by profession but also carries graduate degrees in anatomy and neurolobiology. Dr. Landers is as good as they get in anatomy and he also teaches at Case Dental.

The lower limb is taught by a DPM and is possibly one of the most intense and complete course that I've ever taken

Why not just say he had a PhD in anatomy/neuro? It makes more sense than glorifying his dental degree teaching at some dental school to me. (And no, I don't think that we should emulate our academic programs after dental schools.)

Actually, a PhD is top notch and kudos to OCPM for having that type of prof teaching the students because that is what medical schools do. They get experts in the field.

As far as the lower anatomy praise, carrying a washing machine for 20 miles on your back is pretty intense stuff too. But it doesn't teach you much. I've had many classes in undergrad that were made to be difficult whereby I didn't learn a darn thing because I was too busy in mind-numbing academic manure.

BTW, how did OCPM do on the national boards? To me the national boards weeds out fact from fiction. I've seen a few students on here bragging about their school's scores, but nothing but silence and on a few others. maybe I didn't read the thread that told all.

In general, I'm curious about the scores of ohio, barry, california, NY and temple

if anyone is good at research or is an outright expert, I would like to see some figures on each schools board passage rate. I'm sick of hearing from one person that Temple has the highest passage rate and then someone else saying DMU does, etc... Some one lay out some facts.
any takers?

No one is glorifying his dental degree - the original question was "is it true that anatomy is being taught by a Dentist?" You jumped into a presumed conclusion that somehow that would lower his credentials as an anatomist or professor of anatomy.

Regarding the lower anatomy "praise", all I said that it was taught by a DPM and it was a very complete and intense course. Is that really a problem? I don't get it, are you insecure about your lower anatomy class and decided to take it out on my post? Yes whiskers I did learn from that class - does this satisfy your curious mind?

Our Board results was 85% which I believe was above the National average - I don't know how people did on the retakes in October to tell you the truth.
