So a few of my fellow pre-meds were talking and we're curious about something... In general, about how many applicants do schools accept on October 15 or the first day that acceptances go out, if the school has rolling admissions? From the various school forums, it's seems like this is a pretty small number, with the majority of applicants getting wait listed or deferred, but obviously sdn has a small/very biased sample population. Again, just curious about the numbers! Thanks in advance!

Out of 3, only one said they'd release on the 15th. Other is mid winter, other is 6-8 weeks post interview. I received an acceptance on the 16th from the school which said they'd release on the 15th.

I've seen wait-lists from the same school, though. I think it's super school and interviewee dependent.

I was accepted to the two schools I was expecting to hear from on Oct 15, and the rest of "my schools" I'm not expecting to hear from until a bit later... Anywhere from early November until March, at least so they told us in interviews.

But for those wait listed/deferred, at least according to SDN forums, it seems like a very small number of students were accepted yesterday to those schools who were releasing decisions yesterday. So don't give up hope or get discouraged yet!

I've interviewed at two schools where I get to wait until March... But several of my fellow interviewees already held acceptances.

Same here, I got accepted at the two schools I was expecting to hear from. The rest won't be coming out until thanksgiving or so

I would also be interested to know. I'm feeling bummed everyone is getting acceptances, and I just keep getting waitlisted 🙁
Feeling bummed is understating it. I feel like channeling my inner Sirius Black and scream:

I know Drexel made a decision and their letter is coming. Silence from all others

I had this feeling too on Oct 15, I got waitlisted/deferred at 2 schools. I had a horrible MMI at my Alma Mater, a good interview at OSU, and the result was waitlisted/deferred at both. Started to wonder if I'm socially obtuse or something. It really messes with your confidence, as I know being somewhat introverted, interviewing is not my strong suit. On Oct 16 I finally got an acceptance. It was a huge relief, but I believe luck has a lot to do with it. I thought my interview at VCU was just okay, but I got an acceptance there.

My top dream schools are Mayo and U of M, so I'm going to stay on the road, keep practicing interviewing, working on my weakness. I do seem to get more comfortable and relaxed the more I do it. Note to future applicants, getting later interviews may be a blessing, in that you have more time to work on that skill set (how many of us in our mid-20s have had high stakes interviews before?? Not me). Good luck to all.

There is absolutely no way to even guess at remotely representative data for this. Certainly it isn't tracked directly by AAMC. There is no way to figure out the "cut" (how many applicants where evaluated, how many left to evaluate), and how each school does their processing, workflow and time lag. Any attempt at providing numbers would be misleading to all. Just sit in your hands and wait your turn.

+1

1 thing I've been able to comprehend in my reading here is no to schools are alike, even the same status "waitlisted" is labeled different, some refer to it as an alternate others wait listed or deferred. Some schools seem to like fill all of their spots early, others take a longer look at the pool.

That's really good to hear! Congrats! I got deferred/waitlisted or whatever you want to call it at OSU as well and another school. Still waiting to hear back from one more (hopefully next week) and I am really hoping it will be my first acceptance. I'm super introverted as well, so interviewing can be scary. I really hope I have an acceptance before my next interview, because I'm worried there is something wrong with me 🙁

ALso wanted to say--you were one of the main reasons I applied to OSU. I was weirded out by the anatomy requirement and you explained it to me on a different thread. Thanks for encouraging me to apply to such an awesome school! I hope we both get in off the deferral list 🙂

Thank you, we are pretty much applicant twins. I am rooting for you!!

I loved OSU and was definitely crushed by the "deferral". I will send in an update in December to them, as they did encourage us to keep them "updated" (sounds like we have to show lots of OSU love). I saw you scoped out the prior OSU thread, and coming off the "deferral" or waitlist is pretty slim, but I'll keep sending in updates anyway. Sort of feeling guilty about keeping all my future interviews, but it is really the only way to help prepare me for the Mayo and U of Mich interviews, my number ones. And some SDN folks say you can be surprised by a good interview experience, and change your mind about a school. It is a bit of crapshoot about who interviews you, and then who thinks you are worthy of acceptance after a mere hour of talking to you. Use to take me quite awhile to warm up to strangers, I'm learning to put forth a more gregarious front (though, that is not who I really am).

So I'd like to hear from those fortunate and very happy applicants who have already received offers -- Who had a fabulous 15th?

I got into a school on the 15th that I would absolutely love to go to (they really made a remarkably positive impression on the interview day) with a chance for a merit scholarship too. Hoping to get a few more acceptances sprinkled in before April, but overall I could not be more excited.

Accepted to MCW on Oct. 15th via email; most amazing feeling in the world. Still have interviews at UWSMPH and Mayo coming up so hoping for a bit more love so I can actually have a choice of med school, but knowing I am going to be starting school next year is a huge relief 🙂

I got an acceptance and a waitlist on the 15th, an acceptance on the 16th, and an acceptance on the 19th.

Just for you, DokterMom, I interviewed at 2 schools in September and got accepted to both on 10/15. I was NOT wearing button earrings!

Yay! Congratulations! So what kind of earrings were you wearing?

Congratulations @nwts! An impressive opening week.
And @ChillDawg - Goin' to California! I didn't think people really got in there. Heard it was all a myth...
Congratulations also to @Rainbow Zebra, @NotWayneBrady and @DrDorianTurkleton. (I thought MCW only wait-listed)

Pretty sure it's around eleventeen percent of total applicants
