Some of us regular admission people may be having a very good day next Friday! Let's do a little poll...

  1. Are you expecting a decision on October 15th?
  2. From what school(s)?
  3. How are you feeling about it right now?
1. Yup!
2. From one school, one of my top two choices.
3. Eh, I'm worried I tried way too hard at my interview. When I think about maybe hearing something next week I alternate between giddy with excitement and nauseated (mostly the nauseated bit).

1. No
2. 🙁
3. I've been doing OK at my interviews - afraid of looking too desperate.

All my schools said they won't give out decisions until November or December.

Also, is that school Jefferson? I'm interviewing soon - do you mind sharing if they said how long they will usually take to make their decisions?

1. Yes
2. From two schools, both of which are very high on my list.
3. Nervous, excited, yet also preparing for possible devastation. I feel that the interviews went really well at these two, but honestly I have no way of knowing.

Most of the schools have said I won't know till November at the earliest, so these two are my hope for an early acceptance. Luckily I love both schools.

It was Jeff, yes. They told us (the first week of regular admission interviews) that we should hear back on October 15th, assuming our adcom interviewer was good about making the meetings. A friend of mine that interviewed this week was told it would probably be more like 3 weeks for them. From my limited experience (largely based on the fact that I got an interview invite from them much faster than anywhere else) they seem to be pretty on-top of all this, despite how many applications they get. Good luck! Jeff was awesome!

1. YES. (hopefully, since this wait is killing me)
2. my top choice!
3. I'm feeling different every five minutes about it - I'm confident about parts of my interview, worried that I could have done more, and hoping that my letter of intent was received favorably.

my status on this particular school's page has said "the committee has made a decision regarding your application and it has been mailed to you" for about a week and a half now. silly AAMC rules, if a school knows earlier, they should be allowed to tell us (for our sanity)! either that, or a school should keep quiet that they've made a decision until the piece of mail is in my hands! :scared:

1. No :-(
2. None of the schools I interviewed at gives out acceptances until nov/dec. 🙁
3. Depressed and anxious that this is getting dragged out for another 2-4 weeks. especially because I am a reapp from last year and I would love to just have an acceptance so this nightmare would end. :scared:

1) yes
2) FIU (one of my 2 top choice schools)
3) nervous... My status says they decided 9/28, so I know for better or for worse it's coming. I have saved up about $600 bucks so if it's bad news I can buy myself expensive things to make myself feel better 😉 I've started overanalyzing my interview...again. I seriously need a time machine.

1) Yes!
2) Michigan for sure, hopefully Vandy and Pritzker as well
3) I'm just ready to go into auto-pilot mode for the rest of the year. I really hope there's good news.

Best of luck everyone! Fortunately I'll be at an interview on the 15th so my mind will be a little preoccupied...

1) Yes.
2) I'm supposed to hear back from a few schools. One is a status update on midnight, 2 others are potential status updates during the day (or maybe at a later date). And the others are phone calls or emails.
3) Since I'm set to hear from a few school I feel pretty confident. After being a reapp and not getting even a single waitlist last year my biggest fear is that I come across poorly at interviews, but I think that's been improving a lot.

This is one of the biggest reasons I want to know alreadyyy

1) yes
2) Only Case said they'd let us know that early.
3) I have no idea. I think the faculty interview went really well, the student interview was harder to tell. I'm anxious. Auto-pilot seems to have already kicked in and that could be a bad thing.

1.) Hoping, but not expecting...They said they may give out a few acceptances on Oct 15, but not to distress if we aren't accepted because they want to get a feel of the applicant pool before deciding on acceptances. 2.) My state school
3.) I am pretty scared and nervous because this is really the only place I might have a shot at this cycle...I felt like my interviews went pretty well...I had the dean of admissions for the first one which was scary, and the first thing he asked was about my MCAT...but the rest of the interview went well, and my second one was with the librarian who was a new member and I was only her second interviewee and she told me she was nervous, but we were talking like old friends by the end of it...I just hope I didn't come off as too informal and unprofessional.

1. Yes (sort of - decision will be mailed Oct 15)
2. University of Virginia
3. Excited and nervous at the same time. I thought the interviews went very well, but I hope I didn't go over-the-top at them. I've been anxiously waiting for almost a month now...would relieve a lot of stress to get an acceptance.

Seeing as the 15th is on a Friday this year, please do not spend your night in if you receive an acceptance. Go out and celebrate. I don't care if you have an exam, go anyway. You'll find out soon enough how precious Fridays are.

1. Yes (hopefully)
2. UVA, maybe Baylor and Vandy
3. I interviewed pretty early, so I've had a month and a half to relive all of those interviews...while I think the interviews went decently, I will be happy to have some sort of resolution at those schools!

The husband and I got a $70 gift card for one of our favorite restaurants for Christmas, that we have been saving for the day I get into medical school. We will be going balls-out and blow the entire $70 between the two of us. I can't wait.

If it's in philly, the name better rhyme with logo de pao.

Yeah it's near Jefferson in Center City, but that's not where we'd be going. I've actually never been there.

pfft. can't have proper churrascaria in this country, the cows are different!

you think some schools will notify after the weekend since it's on a friday?

1.Yes
2. Michigan, Case
3. Trying not to think about it too much! But man, it would be sooooo nice to have an acceptance!

1. Nope! My 2 pre-10/15 interviews are at non-rolling schools. Really psyched to hear all the good news, though.
2. N/A
3. Feeling good about the process overall, though, and hoping to have a few bits of good news in November and December. Only stressor is that my probably top choice hasn't gotten back to my yet...but it's a notoriously slow school and I think I still have a pretty decent shot at an interview!

No, as they can notify as early as midnight. Plus, they know the more people they make wait the more neurotics they have calling Monday.

haha, that's a good way of thinking it. I really hope i get good news this friday.

1. Several, but some are by mail so perhaps a few days later
2. U of Michigan, Case, IU, Vanderbilt, Ohio State
3. ...why is it not Friday yet??

Also, I've heard the actual day schools can notify us is the 16th this year? I thought at all my schools they said the 15th, but I've been told otherwise since then. Anyone have any input on this? ... Not that one day really makes a huge difference

Really!! I hadn't heard about the 16th notice date. Most schools I've been dealing with say not to expect news until November 🙁
Oh, well, best of luck to all. I'm still hoping to have a few more interview invites. Wow, really odd time of life.:xf:

Hmm. I just looked this up on the AMCAS website. It says the following:

"Each school notify all applicants - other than Combined College/M.D., Early Decision Program (EDP), and deferred matriculation applicants - of acceptance to medical school only after October 15 of each admission cycle. It may be appropriate to communicate notifications of decisions other than acceptance to medical school to applicants prior to October 15." The word "after" makes me think you could be right, but then the following sentence makes me think Oct. 15 is the official first notification day. I wouldn't know why they would bother changing the date by one day.

I don't think I applied to any schools that have the 15th announcement. Bummer. Good luck to those waiting, though!

I think when I interviewed at UVA they said letters would go in the mail on Oct. 16 to stay true to the "after" part of the rule. Since they use snail mail anyway, I suspect that if I hear from them it won't be until Oct. 20 or 21.

It'll be interesting to see how different schools interpret the rule.

Another interesting thing I heard from one admissions officer was that after a certain date schools can see where you've applied and been accepted. If a school decides to take you off a wait list at this point, they call all the other schools you've been accepted to as a courtesy. Has anyone else heard of this? It sounded interesting, but I didn't write down the details and am operating from memory now. Maybe this happens after May 15 when there is a real chance of you giving up a prior acceptance since you can only hold one, in which case the other school would need to pull someone off their wait list to fill the spot you've vacated.

Eek, kind of nervous about this. Plus I don't work on Friday so the suspense will be compounded 🙂 Hope I get a happy phone call!

Hey, just signed up to ask about this Friday, you forum-people seem to be really on top of things. Will schools that say you can hear back as early as Oct. 15th actually let you know that soon?

I guess what I'm asking is whether I should realistically expect to hear back from these schools next week, or whether that date is reserved exclusively for the top interviewee's acceptances and the bottom interviewee's rejections (assuming I'm not in either category, haha).

It very much depends on the school.

Schools are allowed to send post-interview rejections whenever they want (pre-10/15). They have to wait to send acceptances. Many schools tell you on your interview date (if you're early enough) that you will hear 10/15.

For instance, the school I am waiting on made it very clear that they will let us know as soon as they are allowed to do so. They mentioned 10/15 many times.

However, an early interview date does not mean you will hear 10/15. Last year, the school I am interested in sent out the acceptances 10/15 and sent out the wait lists 10/30, even though many of the waitlist people were through the admissions committee in plenty of time for the 10/15 release.

Also, there's a chance that your file may not have been reviewed by the committee in time for the 10/15 (or 16) wave of acceptances. Check your status (if your school gives status updates).

Thank you for a very thorough answer. I apologize if this extends beyond the scope of this thread, but does anybody know if Temple or Vanderbilt historically send decisions near the 15th?

Last Year Vandy Called on the 16th.

Two Years ago Vandy called on the 15th.

I am very excited. :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Apprently UC Davis just emailed everyone saying that the AAMC pushed back the date schools can notify applicants to this Monday, October 18th. 🙁

Really? Did they actually push back the date, or did UC davis say that they won't give you a decision till Oct. 18...since technically AAMC said October 15 at midnight. Since this year the 15th happens to be a friday, some schools might be lazy or incapable of setting up automatic emails to go out at midnight on friday and will therefore wait till monday. Plus I thought that these are just recommendations from AAMC that some schools choose to follow and some do not...

I don't know the details, I was just looking at the UC Davis thread in the school specific discussions. Copy and pasted what the poster said almost verbatim.

Whatever, it is not going to stop me from checking my email/phone tomorrow.
