October 16, 2008 - "Match Day" for M0?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
  Reminds me of the olden days when we used to have those 2 month countdowns for MCAT scores. Countdown threads live on!! hahaha 😛 😉 😀

G'luck guys. Oh and Amph, I can't believe you got on here from the adcom office. I'd be too nervous to do such.

Countdown! 👍👍

Thank you for the :luck:

Last year I was definitely on the "reject" end. Hoping for a different outcome this year 🙂

I hear ya on that one. I think we've paid our dues enough. This year is our year! (pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease)

🙂🙂🙂 I'm sooooo ready to know where I'll be spending my next 4-7 years. Haha.

There is no doubt in my mind that you will get in this year. 😀

You definitely rocked the MCAT which was the only thing holding you back before from as far as I can see. Your only problem before was that you had definitely not finished all the prereqs and therefore that hurt your previous scores. But you'll get in somewhere this year. I don't doubt that.

And what do you mean up to 7 years? You won't know where you spend the following 3 years post med school until you go through the hoop jumping again with ERAS rather then AMCAS 😉 😉 😛 🙂 😀

Of course now if you were referring to a joint degree program that is different.

My top choice matches a lot of students back to their school... if you WANT to do residency there, you pretty much can. If I get in there, I would love to stay and do my residency with their Peds Dept. Then it'll be hoop jumping... again... for fellowship.

And thank you SO much for the kind comments 🙂 It means a lot!

Ahhh I see now!! 🙂 Yah that makes more sense.

wow, we're getting close...

:luck::luck::luck: to all and may we all get our first choices 😀

texas has to wait an extra month... weakkkk

Pianola,

What's your first choice?

You know, I'm not entirely sure yet, honestly. I think interviewing has been and will be the best way for me to figure out where I'd fit in well, so it's still too early to tell because I haven't been to all my interviews yet. I mean, among schools I've interviewed at, naturally, there are some I like better than others, but there's ultimately no point in ranking your schools until you've gone to the interviews and found out where you've been accepted anyway.

So I've resolved to keep an entirely open mind until I'm accepted. No sense in having a first choice that isn't going to accept me 😛. I mean, I only applied to schools that I would be excited to go to, so it's a no-lose situation overall.

Of the two answers I'm expecting on Oct 16th, I'd be excited for either. There is that one..... 😍😍

Still waiting on an interview from my other of the "top choices".

We ARE getting close. 18 days, 10 hours...

I agree, I don't want to start necessarily ranking the schools I've interviewed at until I am holding an acceptance from those schools. It is kinda of like making detailed plans on what you are going to spend your lottery winnings on, when you just bought a ticket and the drawing isn't for a week.

Ahh i see. That makes sense.

Nothing. We'll probably actually hear AFTER that, but that's 12:01 AM on the 16th. Some people will hear up to 24 hours before that, or 24 hours after, or days after.

I know I'll hear something on the 16th, just not sure what time.

How can you hear something 24 hours before? Isn't that illegal?

OK, October 16th is officially too far away, I'm beginning to have dreams about being waitlisted and rejected! :scared:

Seriously. I had a dream recently that one of my top schools was actually disbanding and was thus rejecting EVERY candidate that applied. That's taking pessimism to a whole new level...

I don't think I've ever been so anxious. I really feel like I can't wait any longer... and I know I have months and months of waiting left before I hear back from all of the schools.

I disagree. My MCAT wait was brutal. I was literally frazzled the entire month.

I'm with Chad, here. Unless you applied to only one school, a rejection's not nearly as bad as ending up with an 11L MCAT. One rejection = oh well, try again. One 11L =...another profession?

Ok, okay. Maybe waiting on my third and final mcat was this bad.

But this is my second application cycle. So it's definitely a bit more brutal than the first go around, although my application is healthier. I think the worst part is that this wait was actually longer than MCAT for me (first interview was 9/11).

But it's almost over! :luck::luck::luck::luck:

so help me understand: once oct. 15 comes around are admission rolling? That is, if you interview somewhere on Nov. 1 do you have to wait until Nov. 15th?

Oct 15 is first day schools can begin officially extending offers, after that schools can accept you whenever they want, the turn around time will vary on each individual school

Yeah, this is my second cycle as well, but the thing is, it all feels like one big, long cycle. I was waitlisted last year so I was waiting on pins and needles even while I was filling out the AMCAS. Add to that the fact that I had my first interview on the day I got the "sorry but the class is full" letter from my waitlist school, and I haven't had a break from the "hurry up and wait" climate of med school application!

It really DOES seem like one cycle.

Nada. Most schools are rolling admissions, and you'll find out shortly after the committee meets. This might be a week, it may be a month.

"hurry up and wait" climate of med school application!

I think you have beautifully summed up the application year. "QUICK! Get your application in so you can start waiting!!!!"
