Does anyone know if stats exist for % of doctors with dual degrees and what they're doing?

For example (a made-up example),

MD/Phd = 30% of all doctors => 80% conduct basic science research

I'm wondering if there is a source that compiled this information to reflect %ages.

This is just an out-of-curiosity thread. I'm personally wondering if a lot of MD/MBAs tend to have more administrative roles in a clinical setting and if MD/MPHs are more abundant in clinical research.

I'm not aware of any such resource, but can promise you that the percentage of MD/PhD's is far far below 30%. Probably less than 5%.

i agree with the far less than 5% number. there are only ~40 MSTP programs in the country. there are many many more medical schools without MSTP combined MD/PhD programs. given that MSTP programs accepts 2%-10% of their incoming class as MD/PhD's, and also the fact that the number of people who do MD-PhD sequentially (not MSTP) is all but negligible...i would say that the number of MD/PhD's in the country is <<5%.

I wouldnt be surprised if a quarter of md-phd's did not participate in mstp programs (they just simply got the md and phd separately). i have come accross a lot of doctors that did just that.

cant always assume md-phd = mstp.
