# of interview spots

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I’ve heard programs pre-determine how many applicants they want to interview per spot. ie 3 per spot, 5 per spot etc. I have an interview at one place that is interviewing 35 for 3 spots and another that is interviewing 12 for 2 spots

It varies but for the most part places that have more spots interview more candidates. Some large institutions with many spots may have a lower ratio because they can't interview 50 people. Other smaller institutions might have a higher ration because it is easier to interview 10 per spot when you only have 1 or 2 spots.

On UIC’s website, they mention they typically interview 60 people for 12 spots. Not sure how old that info is, tho.
