I'd create a poll but I don't know how. How many interviews does one has to have in order to "feel" pretty good about getting an acceptance? Just curious 🙂.

I'd say 4, because often they accept 25% of those interviewed. Sometimes more. Some schools accept 50%, so 2 would make it statistically very likely.

Each person is different, though. How well do you interview?

I really don't think the number of interviews is relevant. For example, last year, I applied to MD and DO schools. I interviewed at two DO schools and got into both. I also interviewed at MD schools and the best outcome I got there was a waitlist.

So true! I believe that this can give someone a false sense of security. There have been people with numerous interviews who were waitlisted or did not get accepted. Just do your best to prepare for the interivew(s) and present yourself in the best manner.

That's exactly what happened to me last year as well. I don't think you can really gage from number of interviews.

The third time was the charm for me (and the fourth). Just assumed that you screwed up the first two interviews, and that they are learning experiences of what to say, and more importantly, what not to say.

I was accepted to 3 out of 4 interviews. Having many interviews certainly does improve your chances, since multiple schools find you a good candidate.

It depends on how many schools you apply to, however.

25% of those interviewed? Where did you get those stats? When I was doing my interviews and looked into these stats, about 80-90% interviewees got accepted.

So basically you're in great shape if you get an interview

It depends on the school. At UTHSCSA, which has been my only interview so far, the MSAR says they interviewed 967 last year and matriculated 202. That's roughly 20%. I was optimistic.

At USUHS they interviewed 500 and matriculated 167.

Numbers are made more difficult by matriculation vs. admission. Still, I don't think it's nearly 80%.

It is over 80% - for sure. I remember checking these numbers not too long ago when I was interviewing. They obviously accept a lot more than matriculated as people don't pay deposits, etc. Especially at osteopathic schools where a lot of people use them as backup and bail out when their allopathic school of choice accepts them ( heck, I've had people bail out of my class in 2nd week b/c they got into another school). So trust the 80% + statistic of interviewees being accepted.

Extremely good to hear!
