If it makes you feel any better, I actually didn't APPLY to my IS. As stupid as that may have been, I would seriously rather stab my eyes out with rusty sporks than spend another 4 years in Ohio. Even though OSU has a great program. Please give me rusty sporks.

Yeah. It's all well and good to say "vet school is vet school, and I'd be happy to get in ANYWHERE!" But really, if you're going to be miserable living in that place for the next 4 years of your life, what's the point? If I'd gotten accepted at Ohio and nowhere else I would have cried.

Yes, people should chose their vet school based on more than tuition costs, but, you have to admit, the vast discrepancy of IS tuition costs is really quite ghastly. There's a huge difference between paying less than $50,000 for four years of vet school vs. $180,000 (Gulp!)

Definetly, money shouldn't be the only factor; one of my professors told me he opted for IS and regretted not going to the school that was a much better fit. I'm waitlisted to the only school I applied to and that is also the school I chose.

North Carolina spends a ton of money on higher education - it is a huge priority for the state. So, they are willing to underwrite the cost of educating future veterinarians (and doctors and dentists and lawyers) more than other states are. Other states have different priorities. 🙂
