When can I do my 2 month officer training program? Or more accurately: When should I do my officer training? Can I do it before dental school.


Also, I am thinking that dental school is like undergrad in that there's two semesters and summer off from may to august. So can I just do the training over the summer?

If I were to do the early commissioning program then I would have to take it early right?

Dental schools vary dramatically and can range from some time off in the summer to nothing off at all. Check and see where you are going. You can do it prior to dental school if spots are open. The earlier you join/commission the better your chance of getting one of those spots. I am not sure if early commissioning will allow you to jump in one of the dental spots since you are technically not locked into a dental billet/slot. Recruiter can probably let you know.

It will be very hard to get anyone to BOLC this year prior to school start. The reason is the security clearance. Because of the challenges across all corps with rotations at military facilities, stemming from a lack of security clearance and CAC issues, starting last October if they don't have a clearance, they will not be allowed ADT and that includes BOLC.

So, it's not only a matter of getting into dental school, boarded and selected for HPSP, but now we are at the mercy of the Security Office and OPM.
