hah darkchild - cooold😉

to dispell myths about getting into columbia:

1)you don't have to play rugby, be from an ivy, look like you're from an a&f catalogue
2)don't have to write thankyou notes
3)i never got that letter from dean franz, so not indicative

while it maybe a lil diff for md/phd - you defiantely haev to be cleared by the md committee as well

gluck whenever they send themout

I'll second those three points. You don't even have to be from a school any of your interviewers have even heard of before! And no, even if Dean Franz completely ignores you (like he did me) you still have a chance. I'll admit I did write a thank you note though. 😉

Have they rejected people yet or will they be inviting more people to interview? I applied like ten years ago and i haven't heard anything yet!

I believe they are done interviewing. Sorry! Us MD/PhD applicants have gotten decisions already, but the MD rejection and acceptance letters haven't gone out yet. Expect them next week.

I called today and the lady said the letters are going out today...

yogi, can I get a confirmation?

yup. just called.

acceptances are going out via priority mail today!

rejections/waitlists are 'going out another day'--they didn't specify when.

hey, any idea of the timeframe of waitlists/rejection letters go out in comparison to acceptance letters? if someone calls, please check on this. thanks.

Ahhh the pain! I can't wait anymore! :scared:

I'm so excited! I'll just be happy to know once and for all.

the secretary told me awhile back that they're interviewing through mid march, through most decisions go out around now. March interview decisions are on a rolling basis. I thought that someone on SDN in a different thread got an interview there for March 15. Anyway, guess we'll know in a few days...

It is going to be nice to find out, for once and for all. Super good luck everyone 🙂 And this thread is way cooler than the Yale one (two three four) 😀

hey guys,

does anyone know how big the class size is at columbia and how many more they accept than their class size in the initial round of acceptances?

MSAR says the class size is 150.

Typically schools accept around twice as many students as they plan to matriculate, but since Dr. Frantz likes to handpick the students, the odds that they will actually accept the offer are pretty high. So, I'd guess that they accept around 200. Anyone else know for sure?

I live in Long Island, NY and I just got my mail and I got in!!!! Columbia was my first choice and i am going to get real drunk tonight. I can't wait to hear who else got in. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

Brad

CONGRATULATIONS Man,

Have Fun and celebrate.

Much Congrats!!!!!!

Can you let us West-Coaster know w/ it was sent priority overnight or priority 2-3 day mail.

It was sent priority mail. It was a fairly big package.
They sent it out yesterday and I got it today

any changes on the online application for those who were accepted?

no change. congrats bez2!

rejection letters are regular mail. no priority mail for the losers 🙁

Kicka$$ dude. Congrats! 😀

congrats!

so am i correct in assuming that only nyc area people will hear today if accepted? anyone know the one-day radius for priority mail from nyc?

Hey everyone,

For those accepted, where do you live?

And does priority mail necessarily mean it arrives in 1 day to everyone in the east coast?

😱

You guys who were accepted MD - do you know if you come to the same second look as us MuddPhudders, March 21-22? Hopefully, looking forward to seeing some of you.

I suppose the next "logical" thing to do is to call the post office...

I hate to tell ya, but priority mail doesn't always get where it's going in 2-3 days. The US Postal Service makes no guarantees. The 2-3 days is just an estimate. For instance, I sent in my deposit to NJMS in January via priority mail. It took 11 days to arrive at the school, only to be delivered on a Saturday when the office was closed. It had to be redelivered again on Monday so it could get signature confirmation. Therefore, if I don't get a letter in the next few days I'm not going to stress. It could just mean that the USPS is sitting on my mail again.......or a rejection.

so..priority mail takes longer than 1st class
priority mail is 2-3 days
1st class is 1-3 days
interesting indeed

I'm hesitant to post this, since these things always gave me a rash when I read them, since until an hour ago I had zero acceptances, but :

WOOO ****ING HOOO!

C O L U M B I A!

Our long national nightmare is over!!!

(I live in Washington Heights, so getting mine today makes sense. I'm looking forward to meeting fellow P&S-ingtons, so give me a shout out.)

congratulations! that's great news!

damn...what a first acceptance to get...
where else did you apply that didn't get back to you, if you could get into columbia?!

Of those accepted, who interviewed with Frantz?

I'm living proof that you don't have to interview with Dr. Frantz to get in. I interviewed with Dr. Carmen Oritz-Neu. On a side note, I go to Cornell University if anyone was wondering

Another question for those accepted: Did you write a letter of interest? Did you get Dr. Franz's infamous 'we will keep you strongly in mind' reply letter?

I didn't interview with Dean Frantz, and I only wrote a thank-you note to my interviewer (my reply did say 'very strongly in mind'), and also sent a semester grades update thingy, which talked a little bit about how much I liked the school (which is true!).

Congrats, congrats to everyone who got in

But I guess I wasn't part of the lucky group...I go to Columbia and I haven't heard anything yet...I guess that means I've been waitlisted/rejected...C'est la vie

MD folks - do your letters say you should respond by March 30?!
that isnt a lot of time at all.
WTF thats before some schools second look weekend too.

It says they would like us to reply in the next three weeks, which is even earlier than March 30th. See, the MD-PhDs get the best in everything!

Has anyone outside of the ny area heard anything? 🙁
