Apparently, the director of the MD/PhD program has started calling accepted students. I got a congratulatory call on Sunday morning
For those of you who got into both HST and NP, what are your thoughts on deciding between them?
Congratulations to all who have gotten at least one acceptance!

received the phat enevelope yesterday but it wasn't as fat as the blunt I rolled up right after opening it.
Right now I am terribly hungover at work and have thrown up twice and shat three times and I have only been here 3 hours.🙂
buji,
I think the fat envelope takes longer to travel, I am predicting an accept for you today...
edit: another confirmation of how random this entire process is.
Alpha,
Congrats on the accept ! A blunt is well-deserved. I don't think the process is that random, and HMS is definitely not throwing darts to see who gets in. The waitlists you got were probably by schools who just didn't think you'd end up attending.
And thanks for the vote of confidence, I really hope you're right. Making international phone calls home during the middle of the night to hear some good news is getting expensive and tiring.
bujji,
I, like you, have been out of town. I just got back and got the big envelope. It was something great to come home to from spring break, and I hope the same happens to you.
Best of luck...keep us posted!

md and medilicious,
congrats! and thanks for the support guys. still haven't heard anything, but trying to be optimistic, or at least less pessimistic.
md: how are you? that would be awesome to meet up with you and jot again.
it's all in HMS's hands.....

I was on spring break while they sent out the packets. I just found out yesterday. Apparently, it was sitting in my campus mailbox for ten days...
To those accepted, are you going, and when is the 2nd look? (I hope yo see you then)
ahhhh saint patty's day. perfect occasion to mask my ****-facedness

The 2nd look weekend is May 2-3. Congrats!
Incidentally, is anyone going to try to make it to both Harvard's and UCSF's 2nd look weekends? If so, when are you planning to leave Boston? ... I was thinking of getting a Fri. evening flight from Logan and wondered whether I'll have any company ...

md689, I PM'ed you back.
Make that a boat of 3. I think that with the opportunities offered by Harvard's other professional schools and the med school's proximity to the undergraduate institution makes it an ideal choice for an east-coaster. But...... I love SF and UCSF is an unbelievable school. Does Harvard pay for airfare for the second-look? Its pretty expensive from SF to Boston!
i think we have to pay for the airfare. But, they have some agency set up to helpus -- i think. also, have u guys gotten phone calls from the admissions office? I got a few messages-- they're just willing to answer ?s and the what not.

I got a phone call. Same thing -- some administrator who offered congratulations and wanted to answer any questions I had.
It was nice to get the call because as I was typing out letters to decline a few acceptances, I had the horrible feeling that I had imagined the whole thing -- that I'd go home and there would actually be no acceptance letter from HMS (or worse, that it would vaporize before my eyes). I was actually a little afraid to mail the letters.
The phone call helped to reassure me that I wasn't hallucinating! 🙂

I thought they were paying for our airfares and our parents as well? Man, if we have to pay, looks like I won't be going, I am broke as is 🙁
I too got the call from HMS. The person with whom I spoke was very helpful and as interested in answering questions about the education as financial aid (my call had come from the financial aid office).
Also, what I wanted to share is that I think HMS is open to the idea of scheduling an alternative time to revisit on an individual basis, given the Harvard/ UCSF/ Stanford revisit weekend conflict (kudos to Penn for making it the week before). I imagine other schools would be, too. So alphabeta, you could probably at least try to reschedule around better airfares and see both schools. Personally, since I am leaning heavily toward UCSF at the moment, I think I'm going to check out HMS on Friday and fly out to UCSF for their whole weekend (I'm in this respect lucky to be in Boston and not the reverse). I therefore think you should opt for UCSF too and join our elated boat of three. 🙂
