evo.. i think you're right......................but....... that kinda makes me sad to think about.. I'm a pretty cool chick!
I'm so sorry about that. 🙁 I have no doubt at all that you're a hella cool chick. 🙂

FWIW, my stats are 32 MCAT and 3.1 gpa. I have no idea why I received the secondary. 😕

might they screen out if you get below 10 on one of the sections?

edit: my visit to mdapplicants.com right after I posted this tells me I am wrong

Sorry, no. I got: 12V 9P 11B WS=S

This thread is a big time reality check for me. Wow. I'm fortunate enough to have gotten (and completed) all 10 secondaries from the schools I applied to. I just assumed none of them were screening and just wanted my cash.

I hope you guys get the rest of your secondaries. In fact, I hope there are more medical school spots available this year than there are applicants, so this thread will be useless...

I'll keep a-dreamin'...

I think it's fruitless to try to determine the method to Wake's madness. It's probably a mixture of factors, not anything very cut and dry.

#1: I thought Miami is a private school.
#2: Does anyone else see the self-gloss in this?

#1: Miami is a private school, but it gets money from the state for each Florida resident it admits.

#2: A few years ago I would have agreed with you. But as a second-time applicant, I've gotten enough rejections with the words, "Due to the number of applications we receive..."

dfleis said:
haha, I got the rejection from there also. I thought it was particularly harsh:

"we realize that many applicants are very qualified to become physicians, so we take the time to individually review each application. That being said, you're rejected." (..something like that)

Again, a simple "no" would have worked. =]

I've been rejected enough times in the past to tell a rejection based simply on the weight of the envelope. About Wake Forest, the admissions committe is very odd. The first time I applied and got rejected from them, I received a letter which said, "You were in an interview category, we just never got around to interviewing you." Now that I'm in graduate school, I got a letter from them which said, "We do not accept graduate students. You will have to have your advisor send us a letter stating that you'll be finished with your degree prior to July 1, 2005. If we do not hear from you in three weeks, we will consider your application withdrawn."

Blast. I got the ol' rejection from Wake today... I guess I knew it was coming after I didn't receive a secondary from them. Well, on a happy note, I plan to go out to dinner on the secondary fee that I've saved. And I'll toast Wake for the evening out

SMACK!!
Got the Rejection from Wake today..

Oh in response to the person who said "if you have decent MCAT scores you should get a secondary"
I got a 30S... apparently that isn't good enough these days.

ha ha.. oh well.. i just bought myself a present tonight anyway with my "wake application fee"

bastards!

thats the spirit. getting rejected, we should only be so lucky,if we don't return any secondaries we can go fine dining everyday. hey, you could even just go ahead and buy a couple ferrari's with the $200,000 you're saving by not getting in.

if only it were so easy.

anyways, good luck to all, but not too much, have to maintain that self-defining cut-throat pre-med gunner status.

Can someboday post a rejection letter, so I can what one looks like?

Jason

I went through application hell last cycle, but I'd be happy to help out the 2005 cycle people. Here's one of my rejection letters, I've posted this a few times before because I think this one was unneccesarily harsh...oh well. here it is.

Dear *******,

Who the hell do you think you are? Don't you realize that you're dumb, and never had any chance of attending our prestigeous, infallible institution? If you were ever to set foot within our hallowed halls, your mere presence would evacuate all intelligent thought from the immediate area, create an intelligence vacuum, and drop our institution's collective IQ ~20 points. I can't believe you are clueless enough to think you could come here. If I had the time and resources I would come to your house, slap you in the face, and kick your dog for even suggesting that you could be a student here; but alas, I am a busy man and I have a lot of these rejections to type, so unfortunatly this will have to suffice...you= 👎

Sincerely,
Harvard

what a bunch of a-holes....I think a simple 'no' would have gotten their point across.... 🙁

i dunno. seems a little immature for harvard.

That's what I thought! I sent them a letter demanding an apology, but the only thing they sent back was a series of derogatory jokes about my mother and her predilection for sex with sailors (to put it delicatly) and
this cryptic message

Any idea what this means?

Wow. Those admissions people at Harvard sure have a lot of audacity. Nobody at Washington University would ever do a thing like that.

About the "cryptic message," I don't know what it is, maybe some kind of heiroglyphic?

just got my snail mail rejection from mayo. not even a secondary? ouch... 😀

damn straight! i don't know what their deal is, but it makes me sad. 🙁 really, my mayo rejection is like being cut with a fine, hand-crafted sword; its clean, and you don't even notice it until you look down and realize you're missing your left arm. what vandy is doing to me is like having someone tie you up and saw your leg off with a plastic spoon...its painful AND annoying! :meanie:

what the f***! i have a pretty decent mcat, a high gpa from ucla, lots of research/publication, president of honors society BLAH BLAH BLAH, and this crappy school rejects me before i even got a secondary? i hear they give preference to michigan residents, but c'mon. anyone else out there who got the reject letter from good old crap state?

now i'm scared to check my mailbox. the damn letter from mayo is probably waiting there... 🙁 🙁 🙁

I don't wanna sound heartless, but why didn't he apply to any Osteopathic schools? If he really wanted to be a doctor, and if he kept getting rejected........

I'm just saying.

They're known to take/be forgiving of less than perfect stats.

Makes me wonder how much he *really* wanted to be a physician.

*shrug*

I'm sure there's something else wrong with him that he hasn't told us.

well its not official...but i didnt get a secondary from NYU...and i doubt i will...i can consider that to be my first rejection.

Just bumping this thread because I thought I got rejected today and I couldn't find the thread.

It ended up not being a rejection email 🙂

Med School Rejection Letters

OMG. I'm so saddened. This guy has practically the same stats as I do, graduated from the same college with the same degree (I actually looked him up in the alum directory; he graduated 15 years before me).... ARGH!

Well, my confidence is shot.

has anyone received a vanderbilt rejection yet?

if not, i'm sure i'll be the first.... 🙁

what were your stats if you don't mind me asking? i just got their secondary and my stats are kinda garbage compared to others on this board.

all you people getting the rejection from Wake...when were you guys processed?

anybody else rejected by loyola...will you share stats...im still waiting for 2ndary...or i guess maybe it will never reach me.

Vandy, snail-received 8/17. Letter was dated the 13th and postmarked the 16th (I live in TN).

Just glad the wait is over. (I'll just keep telling myself that until I buy off on it.)

No, I never got a "We've got your stuff" e-mail, and I was processed on 7/13.

hey, no worries. I saw his site a couple weeks ago, and I figured the following:

1)He was applying when the application process was MUCH more competitive than it is now. The early nineties were a bad, bad time to be an applicant. I think there was 40,000+ candidates then as opposed to the 30,000+ that we've seen recently.

2)He makes a quiet crack about LORs. This is complete inference from my part, but...you have to wonder.

that's all I've got. It's a little flimsy, but...yeah, that site made me want to cry too.

I agree, he mentioned something about his letters of recommendations so I assume they were not very good. It didn't seem he had any leadership experience either. Idk, either way, his mcat/volunteer work should have got him admitted.....

If you read the very first entry from his blog he does admit that he didn't really want to be a physician; it just seemed like something he thought he could do because he considered his CS degree worthless. CS degree from MIT worthless (?!?!).

And then he talks about how he considered being a Nurse but then gave it up because people told him he'd get annoyed working with doctors who were less intelligent than him.
