Well I wasn't nearly as good as Dodo in keep this a secret as many of you know about my admission to Penn last week already. Now that decisions are up I'm posting it publicly. I'm so excited to meet people at the revisit! Penn is an amazing school and I'm so honored to be among those accepted to the program. To be honest guys, this was the first acceptance I actually got a little choked up about (on the phone with Skip Brass no less!). Now, it's time to make a decision...

Hopkins revisit is actually April 10-13, so no conflict. I'll probably go to both. Part of me wants to just pick a school and be done with it. But the anal part of me wants to be 100% sure I'm making the best decision...

The letter does say April 25-27, but I got an email from Sharon afterwards that mentioned April 10-13. I asked her, and she confirmed that she had made an error on the letter. I would get in touch with Sharon ASAP if you plan on coming; plus she'll make your travel arrangements.

hmm... by any chance, is your revisit the SNMA revisit? I was looking over an old Hopkins thread and saw that Hopkins had an early April revisit for that.

I didn't get the email where Sharon corrected the dates, but I've gotten further emails from the MD revisit committee about it... and they all say the 25-27th.

SNMA revisit indeed...Why do they have them on different weekends? Does that mean I don't get to revisit with all the other admits??? :confused:

Hey Hopkins kids:

The Welcome back weekend for underrepresented minority students is April 10-13 (what you call SNMA revisit, although I'm not sure SNMA officially runs it anymore), and the Revisit Weekend for all students is April 25-27th. They're both "official," and you'll get to do most of the same things both weekends except Welcome Back also has more events specifically for underrepresented minorities (Dr. Carson, who's really famous and an awesome guy, takes you back to his place, and I've heard that's a lot of fun). You'll be good either way, you can meet students and faculty, it's just up to you. Send me a PM if you want more help deciding which weekend to go to. But there's no mistake, you can go to one, or both, as you'd like.

A lot of students wanted the revisit weekends to be combined, but some of the faculty are really insistent that there's a separate weekend. Dr. Carson especially is pretty insistent on it and had some good reasons last time I spoke with him, if you really want you can bring it up with him later. It sucks that you won't get to meet all of your future classmates, but a lot of your classmates in the med school haven't gotten in yet anyway (waitlist), although the MD-PhD class tends to have a lot less turnover, and usually at this point everyone that's going has gotten in. I think there's three potential MD-PhD's going to Welcome Back on the 10-13, so you'll meet some of them, and obviously you'll get to talk again with all of the studens that are at school already, and both weekends have been great in the past, so it should be good either way.

I know, right? Kinda disappointed about it, but I've already made arrangements for the SNMA weekend. Plus it allows me to revisit and potentially make a decision earlier...

Like I said, initially there was a push from some students to combine the weekends. But Dr. Carson and other faculty are very involved in URM affairs and have strong opinions about how they want this done. I think at many schools the URM activites have been marginalized when they were combined, and he wants to prevent that. He had other good reasons as well, and he knows a heck of a lot more about this sort of thing than most of the students, so in the end the students in charge decided to keep it separate. And don't worry, the entire class, URM or not, participates heavily in both weekends, so you'll meet everyone. And we're not complaining too strongly about two excuses to do no work. :D
