Congrats Pennquaker & everyone else! I love this thread.

Quick whine re: VCU. I was totally bummed saturday 12/15 to not get an update. Status page said (still says, in fact) that no future decisions would be made until 2/1. Extra surprised to get an email acceptance from them! I'm definitely going to their second look weekend, even though I'm a little wary of the south/small towns.

Okay, maybe not *quite* but it's a town/city small enough to make it almost necessary for me to drive a car. Which is really the only thing I have against small towns. (Except 'census designated places'/super rural areas where I grew that boast a population of <2,000. Eek.)

How are you all gonna make decisions?!

I'm telling everyone that's it's gonna be at least 90% total randomness. I mean, I only applied to 11 schools, interviewed at 5, and liked 3 of them. Honestly, I don't think I can make a *bad* decision at this point.
 
Aw, congrats chylo, VCU put me on hold for MD/PhD today (though they did accept me to the medical school).

This process is interesting. I've been accepted to 5 MD-only programs (on hold at two), am on hold for 3 MD-PhD programs, and have 5 more MD-PhD interviews to go. Evidently I'm a great MD-only applicant, but a mediocre physician-scientist candidate. (The MD-only acceptances are from schools where I've interviewed for MD-PhD as well, though some have yet to meet about the PhD bit).

Somehow, I'll take solace in throwing my acceptance letters on the floor and rolling around in them, gleefully giggling yet agonizing over my MD-PhD chances.

J, do you mean just "withdrew MD-PhD acceptance" or "declined interview/withdrew post-interview/withdrew acceptance?"
 
I would say maybe just for withdrawals after acceptance. I'm not on any waitlists yet, but I imagine that people that are will want to see people that are giving up actual spots (and therefore opening up actual spots).

Just a thought...

Thanks guys. It looks like my final decision is going to come down to Emory and Wash U. Will probably withdraw from all the other schools and only attend second look at those two.

Too bad we can't as a privilege transfer our acceptances to whomever we wish (say, provided they have an interview) if we withdraw!

Did you get word of your MD acceptance via a status update? I hope you get news from the MD/PhD committee soon too.

I'm the opposite of you, I think-- I'm a mediocre MD applicant at best. I haven't gotten in anywhere MD only & only one school offered me an MD only interview. That said, I wouldn't advocate applying MD/PhD to anyone who's looking to increase their chances of getting in somewhere, I can't imagine how miserable a PhD would be if you didn't want to be doing it!

Well my Harvard interview is MD-only due to the admissions process for MD/PhD in the social sciences, so I'm not sure if you really want that (and probably got one for your own). Actually, I won't hear from Michigan until late Jan or Feb because they are waiting to see if the history dept is going to admit me. AHHHHH the waiting is killing me!!!!!

Yeah, my MD acceptance came on the web site.

I don't want to get too down on myself - only two schools I've interviewed at have put me on hold, MUSC just hasn't made any decisions yet. Four MD-PhD interviews down, five to go (at least), things aren't looking too bad. I just would like a nod somewhere, and VCU was a great place. C'est la vie.

Congrats meowkatt! I'm wondering how to interpret this for those of us who interviewed there for the last week. If they're already taking those on the waitlist, does that mean that they didn't find many they wanted to accept out of us. Probably me just being paranoid and neurotic...

AMPed - I interviewed with you at VCU. I had a feeling you'd make it in, you're the sort of non-trad applicant schools drool over (sans the GPA).

I think our uber-expensive dinner was one of the best experiences I've had on these interview journeys.
