** Official 2011 MATCH MADNESS Countdown Thread ~~~ It's Spreading... **

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my cerem😱ny is scheduled to start at 10am, which is 12p EST (God I love the rockies!) so I'm sure I'll get mine officially released---or I will be released to learn my fate at 1pm EST just like all of you.

Letters available at noon eastern, email at 1 eastern for people who don't have, or don't participate in, a Match Ceremony.

Me too! This sucks...👎 I'd be happy at both my #1 or #2 though...

i switched my 3 and 4... i'd love any of my top 7 and would be thrilled just to match.

It's all over! I wonder how long it will be until they actually run the algorithm for the first time.

I know, I had my list done a few days ago...but logged in probably 12 times in the last hour just to make sure the giant, green, "Certified ROL" was there. So what happens if we log in now?

It's still there. Just can't change it

I submitted my ROL on Friday and had been thinking since then about switching my #1 and #2, but I didn't end up doing it. Now the option is gone, and it's actually a relief. Deciding how to rank those two was really tough; I could have just as easily gone the other way. Part of me kind of does hope that I end up at #2 instead of #1, but the truth is that I'd be ecstatic to end up at either of them.

You're done.

I hope you get your number 1. You deserve it.

I did switch my #1 and #2 but I feel the same exact way 👍

Ha, I know. I probably logged in about 15x today, just staring at the green letters. Then I went through the directory and compared the program codes on my rank list to make sure they matched up. then I looked at the green letters again, lol. truly neurotic.

I never double checked the program codes because I assumed the names were correct. Now, I'm scared to go check in case they are all wrong. Maybe I should stop reading this thread before I freak myself out completely!

lol, don't stress yourself out titoincali. what I did was completely useless. I just did it to satisfy my compulsion. time to start the haloperidol

Yeah, in a way it's kind of nice to have the decision be taken out of my hands. I mean, I agonized for months about which medical school to choose. I had like half a dozen of them that I loved.

I only checked by name and not code too. Maybe the senioritis is just setting in sooner for me, but I can't work up enough angst to even consider wasting the next 15-20 minutes looking up all the codes. You shouldn't either. It will be fine. Really. 🙂

haha, too late. I went and did it quickly just to get it out of my mind. I'm not soothing my soul with my personal form of haldol- Conan O'Brien!

I totally agree!!! I'm from a DO school, and we don't do the whole match day thing because half the class does the osteo and half the class does allo, and I'm very glad I don't have to suffer that agony. It's an antequated tradition that should be tossed out ASAP.

Stupid question that I'm sure is hiding somewhere in this forum, but I'm too lazy to look--we get our results in email AND on the NRMP website, right? I may not have access to a computer at the time the results are released but can check it on my iPhone, which, of course, doesn't allow access to the NRMP site...

Most of us at our school love Match Day (pending we match!). We get the day off from clinic responsibilities, and most rotations give us the following day off too, since it would be inappropriate to be hung over taking care of patients. I don't think our attending would consider vomiting along with your patient a form of 'patient bonding'. 😀 Too bad I'm on my Medicine Sub-I next month. I'll just take a sick day.

Officially 3 weeks to go (certainly beats 11 weeks, but not as good as 12 hours...):xf:

Can someone please explain match day a bit more to me? I got our student affairs people to tell me that there's no required announcing to the class where you matched, but other than that I have no idea. Do they hand out all envelops in the beginning? After a long speech? How to they hand them out? I've got a small class, but with the level of neuroticism involved I wouldn't want to wait for everyone. Furthermore, is it legal for us to know prior to 1pm EST? Do they hand out the envelops before then, or do we all just wait until 1pm before ripping them open?

At my school, all the envelopes are handed out just before 1 PM ET, and then everyone opens them simultaneously. I know some schools draw names out of a hat, and everyone goes up to a podium and individually announces where they ended up... some places even have everyone put a certain amount of money in a bowl and the last person to get their letter gets all the money.

I also ended up switching my #1 and #2. I was debating between awesome program/good location and good program/awesome location. I ended up putting the awesome program #1... hope I don't regret it!

We're supposed to go in on Friday if we're on a rotation... which is why I took the whole week off for vacation. 😀

fck....

For some reason I ended up ranking a program 3rd when i should have ranked the program I ranked 6th in that spot instead. Now i'm regretting the decision really badly and it's making my stomach turn. omg.... Why did I make such a stupid decision? It's all clear to me now.. Hours after the deadline. fml.

🙄

Why does it matter? Every school does things differently, why don't you talk to them?

There are two general types of match days; one where everyone open at the same time, and one where students open one at a time. There is no way to know which one your school is. Ask.

Most schools have some sort of speech or activity beforehand. My school meets an hour or so before noon EST, and then we can open at 12EST. Sometimes they don't have enough filler, and they actually open shortly before.

Wow so some of you guys actually changed your list around right before the deadline? I was even too scared to log on in the afternoon because I was worried that my list might somehow get "un-certified" and then the system might be too slow to recertify it before the deadline. :scared:

A quick question: would it be ok to log on the NRMP website from now until the match? Could I possibly cause any problems such as uncertifying my list? I just want to see that green "certified ROL" one more time.

DO NOT log into the NRMP. If you do, your computer will explode and chuck Norris will punch you in the vagina.

You can log in as many times as you want. You can see your list. You just can't change a thing... including your certification status.

😴I am so over the wait and it has only been one day since we certified. I am on a boring rotation and I have watched all the series Psych on Netflix recently. awesome BTW....great show.

I am so desperate I have considered starting Grey's Anatomy season 1 on netflix. Lets hope something better comes along before I regret that decision.

Sigh...T-minus 21 days.😳

I was paranoid like this too :meanie:

haha, this was me back in january, and i did end up doing the grey's marathon and am all caught up now! The sad thing is, I also finished most of 30rock (hilarious show, btw) and am thinking about starting another series (good suggestions, anyone?). I either need to 1) increase my etoh intake 2)find some other hobbies 3) match day needs to hurry the he11 up. Somehow, I dont think #3 is an option. 🙁

I've gone through all 6 seasons of Nip/Tuck in the past month - I highly recommend it!

I'd recommend 'It's always sunny in Philadelphia'. Hilarious (crude humor) and you can easily get through all the seasons.

I'm passing the time by spending it in the gym, taking random fun classes (pole dancing, anyone?), and working on my (amateur) mixology skills.👍

20 days to go!

I started watching Californication and its pretty good so far. Last year I watched the whole Lost series in a couple months which I thought was good if you haven't already seen that. I'm not sure if Sopranos is on there or not but that show is awesome as well

Arrested Development and The Wire. The two best shows on TV. Ever.

I've been introduced to the wonder that is podcasts. Love them--can listen to them for hours every day. And have been. There is literally no topic under the sun that someone hasn't podcasted about. And some of them are actually well done!

I reccomend The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe. Though it's for EM folks, EM:RAP is also good.

How funny; we evidently have similar podcast taste. One of the podcasts I really like is Skepticality. I'll check the Universe one out--for sure listening to all 300 of those podcasts would keep me busy for a while! EM:RAP is good, but it's not free. I've spent enough money this year; I'm not looking to spend more, especially when there are so many good podcasts available for free. If you want some good free EM podcasts, try Toxcast and EMCrit. One other medical podcast I really like is The Experts Speak, which is put out by the Florida Psychiatric Society. The nice thing about all three of those is that they're relatively short (10-20 minutes for each podcast), so you can easily listen to one while you wash the dishes or do some other chore.

I'm oscillating between excitement at finally knowing and trepidation if it's not number #1. Of course, any answer would be exiting because then I'd finally know and could start planning...

Why can't wikileaks post something useful?🙄

Can someone clarify for me what we find out ahead of time as far as matching and when we find out? I have heard that you find out the specialty you matched into...
