Does anybody know if step 3 result must be obtained before the rank list? I arranged it in late Oct due to my current working schedule. Should I move it earlier?

Is it already time to register to the NRMP?
Is it better to postpone 'till after the interviews for the odd chance of being offered a position outside of the match?

This is the sort of thing that will be program specific but I've never heard of a program requiring it.

Looks like you can register for NRMP now (at least, the registration link is live). I wouldn't hold out waiting for a pre-match. They aren't all that common, and the majority of the ones they do have are for internal candidates. Just register now so you don't forget later. I've seen that happen...it ain't pretty.

Cornell reject no complaints with my list though

Are people generally sending post-interview thank-you emails?

Lehigh says they require Step 3 before rank lists are due. Only place that said anything to me about it.

I got UofA looks like monday. It went to spam on my gmail which is annoying.

Any MD Anderson, columbia, or WUSTL rejections yet? I figure these are silent rejections, but just wanted to confirm so I can quit checking my email compulsively 🙂

My program director had suggest actual snail mail cards. It looks like you put some time and effort into it, and then there's no expectation or obligation of a reply. I've decided to mail Thank You cards to the program director and then email any interviewer that I had a particularly good conversation with or who might make a good mentor. It sounds like a thank you email or card to the PD is an almost expected courtesy.

Good clinical training and excellent clinical research. Pretty huge in leukemia and transplant. Not bad in solid but not a major strength.

A week after getting rejected from Cornell, they offered an invite today. Thanks for the disinvitation!

Has anyone been rejected from the Cleveland Clinic yet? I just want to know the answer... even if it's no!!

Rejection from Cleveland clinic here. Anyone hear from Arkansas or Florida Gainesville.

yea second that, any thoughts on how it compares to Mt. Sinai?

-Gainsville sent out IVs almost a month ago. Sorry, I should have replied to that question somewhere prior to now.

-Arkansas sent a mail to say they are still reviewing- you probably got the mail ?

-Sorry, didnt apply to CC

To any of you who have already interviewed at UCLA:
What time in the afternoon were you actually done? I am trying to decide if I can make a flight out of LAX that evening (6-ish). They say we are done by 5pm, but in reality they all say that, and it seems that I have been done around 3:30 or so at other places. This would save me from having to find coverage for one more day of work if I can jump on a flight that evening. I lived in LA before so I know how crazy the 405 can be.

Thank you!

hello yall,

You may be able to get a faster, more accurate answer if you contact the program coordinator directly.

Currently the only days for Rochester interview for me are October 22 or October 26 is anyone planning on canceling in the next three or four weeks that would open up a spot for me Earlier than the 22nd or 26th

Dear friends, finally jumping into the fray here after lurking for a while.

Would love your advice on which interview to go to. I only have time to do either Scripps or Brown. I am looking for broad training (though maybe lean a little more towards solids). I do have a research interest and background though would consider a 'community' program that has strong academic possibilities. Lean more towards West Coast, though am open to going elsewhere as well.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I would consider both as community programs and if your interest is truly academics, neither is probably a good fit.

I can speak somewhat about Brown since one of my classmates was a fellow there. It's a strong clinical program which prepares fellows for PP. They have a new chair or pd? who is trying to push the program towards more of an academic feel with a stronger emphasis on research. BMT is weak as most BMT patients end up getting referred to Boston.

Brown residents have to rotate elsewhere for their BMT experience. It is also not a particularly strong research institution although they do have their own cooperative trial group.

Scripps is probably a touch more academic than Brown, but not appreciably so.

Choose based on location. An argument could easily be made for either place.

how is UTSW for heme/onc? Ive heard that it is a beast for IM, but maybe for h/o it is different.

It's probably the 4th best H/O program in TX (after MDACC, Baylor and UTHSCSA). The things that make IM a beast there (which is to say the institutional attitude, and Parkland, which you can't do anything about) will probably make H/O rough too. But I have no first-hand experience with the program.

Thanks, gutonc and avid! I've just cancelled my Brown interview. You're right about the possibility of neither program being a good fit if I'm truly set on academics. I guess I'm not 100% sure about that yet, hence the interest in a few select community programs.

Hi how is University of Arizona in terms of heme onc training? Do you get good training in solids and benign/malignant heme? Will you be prepared for private practice and/or academics?

I don't see it mentioned on here very much so I was wondering what people think about it compared to other academic programs? Does it have a good reputation? 😕

How does it compare to other programs in the southwest or west coast?

Has anyone interviewed there? What was the experience like?

Thanks for the advice!

Does anyone know about the Jackson Memorial University of Miami program? Please shed some light.

Any thoughts on the relative reputation/pros/cons of UCSF, Stanford and UWash/Fred Hutchinson? I'm interested in basic science research and heme malignancies. I'm having a tough time trying to decide how to rank these programs. How do you think they compare with top East coast programs? Thanks!

If you want to do heme malignancies, UCSF is not the place for you. Stanford and UW are both incredible places for heme mal and either one of them will stack up nicely against any program in the country.

any one know the etiquette for canceling IVs? Is it too late? I've realized this process is consuming vast amounts of $$ and have decided to restrict myself geographically and would like to cancel a few IVs (taking my # from 12 to 9 so still going to a lot). just have some fear that there could be negative repercussions of canceling -- any thoughts?

What are people's thoughts regarding UChicago, Northwestern, UMichigan, and Mayo in terms of launching an academic career. Assume location doesn't matter, It seemed to me that while fellows at Mayo publish A LOT, that you have to work very hard (3?? years of clinical work vs. 1 to 1.5 years at most places), and that fellows did not necessarily land jobs at other prestigious academic centers other than Mayo.

As long as you're not canceling interviews for next week, then you're fine. Programs expect it. But do it first thing tomorrow morning. The only negative repercussions will come if you cancel at the last minute or, worse, just don't show up.

My opinion:

Michigan~=Mayo (with the caveats you already mentioned)>=Northwestern~=UChicago

Frankly, the differences between those programs are fairly minimal so go to the place you like the most...you can't really go wrong having any of those names on your CV.

Hi gutonc what are your thoughts on the U of A program? What west and southwest programs give you a balance in training so you are set up for academics or private practice?
