Official 2013-2014 Heme/Onc fellowship application cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone heard from more programs on the East Coast? I have to cancel some of my interviews (can't attend them all), but am waiting on some programs I like.

For those who applied in CA, an applicant that I know found out from a friend that UCLA, USC and Stanford has more internal candidates this year and may not send many invites. Again, this info has been filtered through different people so it could be totally inaccurate.

Baylor (Houston) - dates in August/Sept/October

How does Baylor compare to Vandy and University of Washington?

UW> Baylor vs. Vandy? Vandy lost some big names apparently, but not sure if that affects fellow training?

Gutonc, any thoughts on Emory? I'm leaning towards solid tumors right now. Thanks!

Yeah October 12!! They said they may have more dates available as of Aug 26th.

Did not expect Emory. Awesome.
Me too!! I could not believe it !!! Sent an email accepting October 12th..meet u there..

Ok, I am just doing this to help out... I am not applying... done with that part of my life...
Just to clarify because I saw something incorrect in a prior post...

1) as far as I know UCLA has only few internal candidates this year (much different from last year when they had like 8 internal candidates).
2) UCLA has not started to select candidates yet.
3) If you dont hear from the program coordinator, it is ok, does not mean anything.
4) They love candidates with serious strong research background and former chief residents.
5) IMG are accepted and is not a big deal, each year there are 1 or 2 IMGs matching there (but I am not sure about the J1 visa)

Good luck everybody!

Just out of curiosity - what makes Emory a community based program? What kind of differences are there in the qualifications of these programs? Obviously training is not considered substandard there.

With the interviews that you have now and prolly going to get soon, you can afford to skip community programs if you don't like to train there!

Hem/Onc programs seem to be taking their time compared to others this year! Why?

😱Rejections from Columbia and Thomas Jefferson 👎

can anyone provide an updated rejection list please??

Wakeforest: just 2 dates

UIC: dates in september

Please give inputs regarding these programs

UIC talks about their stem cell center and program but they seem to have very low volume. do they rotate through UC or NW?

Could someone please make a list of all rejections and their dates so we could move on....thanks!

Dr. Vanostran usually very good at updating both acceptance and rejection lists on a regular basis if not daily.. He must be out sick!😀

Utah is a great program all around according to previous years posts 🙂

Thank you Niviancer!! R u going there too.?.
Thank you gutonc!!

I emailed them telling I was interested and would prefer Fridays...waiting for them to reply back..😉

Is it still early for me to have ONLY 1 INTERVIEW ?????????? 😕 Please tell me it is still early!!😕
stats:
IMG needs Visa

I really think that the designation has been just carried over without getting any attention. Emory used to function like a community program, but a lot of changes have been implemented for the last 10 years or so (e.g. NCI cancer center designation, NCI SPORE grant etc.).

Recent graduates have secured positions in decent academic places around the country and I have to say that I'm one of them. I have no question on the training that I have received there.

make that 2 of us👎

Medonc, can you comment on the strengths of the program? How's the training for solid tumors and BMT? Thanks! 🙂

Most of my friends who needed a visa got interviews late last year. Importantly it's not that they didn't !! As you can see many programs have been sending interviews in waves ; as long as you don't have a rejection from every other program and it's not almost the end of October , I will not freak out. How many programs did you apply to?

it's your Visa. Without the Visa issue, you will have interviews 9/10 places that you applied. Get married or go to some remote places to work to EARN your visa. There's no other way to put it.
