MUSC
Wake Forest

will have more malignant liquids then the others.

No idea. Not reviewing this year.
it's one and done for you?? or you guys alternate?? either ways, your knowledge and input on the whole process proved invaluable for all of us here in this forum.

Yes. Thank you gutonc for all your wonderful advice and insight! 🙂

Thanks gutonc and QV🙂

you're welcome. the heme exposure at Baylor that you'll get will be mostly benign. However, if you want malignant heme, MUSC is a better place. Baylor has a better name because of its IM program.

Yeah - was shocked to see it. Sent: 12:41AM
🙂

Thanks!
Outside of MSKCC, Mt Sinai probably has the 2nd best program in NYC especially in BMT/Malignant Heme. Wish I had an invite there. Didn't receive a rejection and so there's hope.🙂

On bethematch, it appears they've done less than 50 total transplants last year?
Perhaps, they're not what they used to be b/c of Katrina? I guess we'll have to see for ourselves when we get there. 🙂

Did Tulane give the same date for all? I had it in 9/20, did they give you all the same date?

is it ok to rank the following programs like this?

Tier 1 -
UW
NIH/NCI

Tier 2 -
Tuft Univ.
Tulane
UConn

Tier 3 -
Texas A&M Scott & White
Baystate Medical Center
NorthShore/LIU Medical

Michigan State Univ. 8/26.
anyone can provide input on MSU and/or any other programs listed above?

New to SDN and have appreciate this forum greatly.
Any thoughts on the new york programs aside from sloan-kettering? Columbia, Mt. Sinai, NYU- Does anyone know how they stack up against each other? Appreciate the help. 🙂

Did anybody heard from Wayne State karmanos and UH in Cleveland? Thank you!

Overall they're fairly similar, at least in "tier" and reputation. NYU has a huge benign heme focus (not sure if it's still that way but when I interviewed, the entire 1st year was benign heme). I liked MSSM best after MSKCC but Columbia probably has a slightly better "rep".

I'm with Gutonc as well. Columbia Malignant Heme/BMT is not quite established as Mt. Sinai but probably has a higher rep because of its Ivy league status.

I don't need H1/J1 although I am not a citizen & don't have green card, but don't have good scores.

Doesn't matter. If you are not a citizen or permanent resident, your chances are almost zero due to NIH funding restrictions, especially with low scores.

Your best bet is to get a green card, do some great research at a program that has a fellowship program with a history of taking IMGs and apply. You may have a shot at getting a position somewhere. Good luck!

Thank u, yes that is my plan now as I have no interviews and I think the season is pretty much over for me.

I think funding restriction is not a big problem as programs that are ok with other sources of funds will take an IMG but in my case scores are the main problem. I know a well published IMG who is in a top tier program that says no non-citizen due to funding restriction on website. They use other funding sources for that fellow. But you need to be well accomplished or have already shown potential to be a top doc.

Thanks for the help. Appreciate the insight!

don't give up hope. there's still about 2 weeks left. there will be plenty cancellation for sure.

it's not always about your published track record if you're an IMG (i'm not one of those). It's also about what you can show clinically. If you're confident about your clinical abilities, do as many away electives as possible to increase your chance and also the likelihood of you getting great LORs from great/famous people will be much better.

We are judging based on last year's interview offering period... let's remember that it was the first year where people apply in July and programs are still adjusting to that.

Thanks a lot qv. I guess this year the season will extend couple of more weeks due to delay so maybe still a small hope for me left.
