u got invited to all 3? congrats!! If I was you, I will try to make it to all 3's. UCLA > UCSC > UCI

I got invited today as well. There's only one date offered for me 09/19. Since I can't take off work on that day, would anyone of you on this forum who are invited to Michigan State care to trade dates?
I am interviewing elsewhere on 19th...ask them to give u another date explaining your situation. Do u have any info about the program? Seems small

Michigan State Univ. vs. Oakland University Williliam Beaumont

Which one is a better and bigger program? thanks for your inputs.

USC

Any inputs about USC ?

Norris is a strong NCI comprehensive cancer center and LA is a great place to live if you can get over expense and traffic. Traffic is the biggest pain.

Funding at Norris is good. Just be prepared to work like hell for 3 years though. You will see a ton but you work harder than probably at most places. New USC/LA country hospital is nice & USC's university hospital is beautiful.

I love USC but I am biased

Good luck to all the applicants! Hope you get interviews you want.

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the Chicago programs? I've read what I can from the website but am not sure what their strengths/weaknesses are and I'm getting vague answers from faculty members here in the east coast. Thought I'd pick the collective SDN brain.
Appreciate it! 😳

Thanks a lot. I have family in LA so am familiar with the terrible traffic situation. Will stay close to the hospital in case I end up there 🙂 Do they have overnight in house call ?

Do you guys think this year is particularly competitive overall? Just curious
to see what other thinks. I know I have gotten rejections from places I thought
I would have IVs from.

I don't think there's any way to assess that. I have gotten IVs from places I thought I'd be rejected and rejections from places I thought were safety programs.

I agree with WildTumor. The sample size of SDN seems too small to gauge. Applying broadly, I got interviews at places I did not expect at all and have not heard from several local programs that I expected.

One thing we all noticed is that IMG with VISA are having a hard time getting invites. How many more weeks do you think we all have until the season is over? anyone heard from Stanford? MDACC? MSKCC?

Stanford 8/22 only 3 dates. Mayo Scottsdale 8/20 to my friend

UMass:
Please keep in mind that we will have 3 openings for the year
2015 and if you are unable to find a placement we could potentially reconsider
you for one of those positions. We expect to begin receiving applications for
2015 positions in July 2014 and hold interviews in September and October 2014.

very interesting since programs will most likely not re-interview you if you interviewed with them the year before. Even if it was DFCI or MDACC, i wouldn't take that chance especially when you know you can get in this year. Nothing is guarantee.

MCW vs university of Wisconsin how do they compare for someone interested in academics and a broad exposure

Pick one. It's hard to be "academic" and also have broad exposure. Sure, you'll rotate through all the tumor types and clinics but you won't get significant exposure to everything.

That said, UW-M by a country mile. Nothing wrong with MCW, but UW is better.

With that said, for people interested in going out in the community, would you suggest the "pseudo-academic" places..i.e. Rush, Loyola, Boston U, Tufts (academic name, research available, but sort of run like a PP)?

Stanford sent invites but seems like not to some people I know who thought they will get it as they have got invites from other top places. One AMG whom I know got it but MD PhD with solid research so no surprise there.

Haven't heard anything about mskcc but I know some IMG got rejection from mdacc.

Applied 100+
0 invites
Countless rejections
IMG, don't need visa but not citizen or GC

Penn State Hershey 08/29..any inputs about the program?
got the same email from Umass..in any case I interviewed with them last year and they rejected me this time.

I never really understood what you meant by "don't need visa but not citizen OR GC"? you don't have a green card? your H1/J1 VISA will last another 3 years? if you're currently holding a visa then that's the problem. If you're holding a GC, your situation might be better. If you're a GC holder or US citizen and yet got 0 invites, you might need to work on improving your CV. If your CV is spectacular, I would question the quality of your LORs. Make sure they write you great LORs b/c what people tell you and what they say in their letters might be different. There's always next year buddy!! The road map is there.

i'm guessing it's the same size and reputation as MSU.

Between process of getting GC, have a special protection status so have ead. I waived right to see LOR. I have solid clinical performance based on my program annual reviews. So I hope the LORs are strong - but cant know.

I think you will have a better chance next year when you have your GC. it boiled down to your visa issue.

EAD might be a problem. Fellowship program directors are not necessarily experts in immigration laws. EAD translates into a possibility of denial of GC and nobody wants to take a risk for a fellow candidate. (This can be a different story if you're applying for a faculty position.)

If your I-140 or I-130 has been approved, let the programs know that your GC will come for sure (even though there's a small chance of problem with I-485 process). Otherwise, hope for the best, but I'm more than 100% sure that you'll be a lot stronger candidate once you have GC on your hands.

glad u got invite there, I got rejected..;(..
I don't understand what programs are looking for..I agree with you and wild tumor, places I did not expect to call me did and others I was quite onfident they wuld didnt..I guess geography is a consideration..anyways..I cannot complain...
Best of Luck!

Hi Niviancer: OHSU declined me last week so I guess they sent or they will be sending invitations soon.

OHSU hasn't sent invites or any non-screen rejections (we don't take applicants who need visas for instance). Apps are still being reviewed.

Hence, I did not apply to any west coast programs. IMG on H visa from Small Community Program. Surprised by interviews so far.
