have you gotten interviews on H1 visa? you're really good in beating the odd there buddy! congrats!Hence, I did not apply to any west coast programs. IMG on H visa from Small Community Program. Surprised by interviews so far.

you definitely give a few of my IMG colleagues who're on H1/J1 visa hope. Others IMGs in this forum like *bearhug* should also be hopeful as well. You probably must have had a very strong CV, excellent scores, and LORs.Yup, on H visa, some want me switch to J, but 8 so far.

are you sure about OHSU? Per Gutonc - OHSU hasn't sent invites or any non-screen rejections (we don't take applicants who need visas for instance). Apps are still being reviewed.OHSU and UCLA harbor sent IVs last wk
you must be an AMG from the west coast to have IVs at Stanford, UWash, UCLA, and UCI. Congrats!Stanford 8/22 only 3 dates. Mayo Scottsdale 8/20 to my friend
can you share your IV list so that many others who're IMGs on H1/J1 Visa could apply there for next year? Thanks!Yup, on H visa, some want me switch to J, but 8 so far.

Any chance you might've mistaken OHSU with OSU?
Has everyone heard back from everywhere they applied? I have not heard back from half the places I applied to. Is it common to get IVs still in Sept or should I assume these are silent rejections at this point? Thanks.

Would appreciate input on my list so far, Gutonc especially. Want to cut down the number of interviews to 12-13. I am interested in academia with a particular interest in malignant heme. Thanks

I guess you're right. there're quite a few J1 here that got a ton of IVs. Just keep working at improving your CV and retake the steps if you have to... I doubt that you'll need to do that next year after you got your GC though.. Good luck buddy!Scores Scores Scores is all that matters. I know IMGs on J/H with top scores and got invites similar to yours. I will reapply next year with a GC and an improved cv and if it doesn't work am going to retake the steps. Congrats and thanks for sharing. Visa matters at some programs but not every program.
why rank UMDNJ cooper so low? I would rank it somewhere in the middle of the pack.

The story is worse with H Visa, Many programs categorically filter apps on H1.
Niviancer - Penn State is probably better than Cooper but not by much. Ask yourself this questions - where do you want to live? small college town or near the city of brotherly love but in a really bad area like Camden? Is Penn State that bad?
I think Cooper is not a very strong program - basically a community program with university status. Not sure if they have much in terms of research, and within 30 min of the Philly programs.
15 minutes from Cooper Hospital are nice suburbs of NJ. Location isn't that bad in terms of safety (parking etc), but it is greatly overshadowed by the programs in Philly.
PennState at least has a huge basic science department, although I don't know if they have much translational projects ongoing with the hem/onc division.
it would be very interesting to compare IMG folks with J1 visa and IMG folks with GC (after serving 2 years in a rural area) to see who has more IVs (assuming with similar credential). I guess you can try the J1 path first.. if you don't succeed then go for the GC path. I guess this is the road map.

What's wrong with mayo Jacksonville ?
4 out of 27 is a great percentage for IMGs. how many rejections did you receive? Percentage wise, I received 30% response (15% rejects and 15% invites). I hope we all have enough IVs to get in.Still waiting to hear from a bunch and it seems they haven't sent them out yet (at least based on this forum)
Haven't heard from Mayo Jax yet
Got 4 so far though so hoping this week brings some more
my scores aren't all that great (above average but not exceptional). I don't know how low you are.. but two of my steps are not even 220. Come to think of it, I think USLMEs just got much easier after I took mine or the average triple digit scores are just much higher these days. If I have to compete with next year class, I'm not sure if I will have a chance.. I would have to score 225 just to be average. Not sure if it is a huge deal at programs that don't care about visa issue. I don't need a visa as I have a special protected status and have EAD but don't have any interviews. I don't have great scores although have pubs, research, solid clinical performance, LORs (hope). I think for an IMG, scores are the only thing that matter.
I think Penn State might not have the most diverse patient population compares to Cooper. Sure, Cooper/Rowan is next to Philly but it's the only program in NJ that take care of all the NJ patients south of Princeton. I don't think HMO/Medicare would allow NJ patients from south Jersey to be treated at other cancer centers in Philly unless they're referred there for special care.Separate thoughts.. sorry for confusion.
I just didn't know Penn State was that bad =)
