ohio state rejected me
got invite to utah
I did not apply to the others.

Hey qv3755
when did they send you the musc one? do u know anything about WVU? when r u going there?
Take care! congrats!!
I think I got WVU around mid week and MUSC on Friday. WVU is also a good program that not a lot of people know about.. good in liquids/BMT. I'm going there on the first week of Oct and will probably run into you on the IV trail. Thanks for the tips on the interviews.

Has anyone heard from UVA or Medical College of Georgia?

I applied to UVA, MCG, Mayo Jax and Mayo Arizona but didn't hear anything from any of those programs. Since you're from the local area, I thought you would've heard from MCG.

My significant other got interviews from Mayo J. Mayo A has only 1 spot so it's likely they might be taking their own if they haven't sent many invites. UVA sent already a while back.

MCG is not MCG anymore and is now Georgia regents. Per my IM friends there, that program is in flux and losing top faculty including PD and a major patient base so the training of fellows is severely impacted. My IM friends speculation is that they may not have fellows this year or have less if at all they do since their budget is also going to be impacted and their current fellows don't have enough patients.

mayo AZ already sent out invites. Don't know about your other places I didn't apply there.

thanks, bearhugger. that's some really good info.

University of Oklahoma vs University of Cincinnati? I have to cancel one due to date issues. Gutonc any ideas?

That is interesting. I'm not an insider, but was in a nearby program until recently. GRU got a new cancer center director from NCI about an year ago, and has been trying to restructuring their program into more academic one. They have been advertising faculty positions for the whole last year and seems like recruited some people from various places ( http://news.gru.edu/archives/9552 ).

After Emory got its NCI designation, what I've been hearing is that the state is focusing on GRU to get its designation and keeps providing funds.

Yea, I figured being in the shadow of NIH, it would be lacking. Do you know how their clinical training is? Thanks! 🙂

No, I don't know anybody involved in the program.

I was surprised too that they are losing people including the PD per my IM friends. Most likely internal politics I think. Anyways, does not bode well for fellows who just want good training.

This forum is so quiet this year compares to last. Anyone wanna guess on the competitiveness level of the applicant pool for this subspecialty this year? will Hem/Onc overtake Cards and GI as the most competitive subspecialty? less people want to do Card at my program this year and yet the number that want to do Hem/Onc is more than tripple from last year. Isn't that crazy or what? I hope this is not the same everywhere.

it is very competitive this year, I would be really surprised if Cards/ GI are more competitive.

Based on my program I'm quite sure that GI >> Cards > Heme Onc still.

Why don't you wait until you've interviewed? Seriously. You never know how you're going to feel about a place just based on reputation.

U Miami or U Buffalo? What do you think gut onc? I'm more into malignant hematology and BMT

true. but i'm not so sure how much info I can get out of 4-6 hours of interview time. how much can you really trust the current fellows?

I think, Buffalo has the better program, but Miami might be the more attractive city. I live in a beautiful east coast city, so I don't feel strong to go to Miami, I'd rather stay here. Still have to decide between thise 2 because interviews are at the same date and I have no alternatives to choose.
Anybody knows more about Buffalo? Sound like a good program to me...

Did you get a rej or invite from there?

I applied to 100+ without any invite. Haven't heard from majority of the programs. Some in the forum got rejections at least but I didn't get anything from the programs that sent invites and rejections.

Guessing that my app got filtered out and never even got looked at probably. 🙁

I think we are.. i'm not sure if I have the patience to wait anymore.. I'm set to go on my IV trip. Anyone know why car rental out of Detroit Int. Airport is so expensive? it cost over 100 round trip just to catch the shuttle to Beaumont.. and I can't find a car less than 50/day (not including taxes and fees). Any other way cheap option to get to Beaumont from the airport? Thanks!!

anyone else find it interesting that we are only halfway through the season and are already at 21 pages of posts (14 total last year)

Would appreciate input on my list so far, Gutonc especially. Want to cut down the number of interviews to 12-13. I am interested in academia with a particular interest in malignant heme. Thanks

howard is not a very good program but they let you rotate through the NHLBI for your SCT rotation (up to 6 months). but that's about the only perk in my opinion. Georgetown is a much better program if you like to live in D.C.

does this mean that we have more people interested/applied in Hem/Onc this year?

That's an awesome list for H1 visa and it means that if you're an excellent candidate (IMG/H1 or not), you will land some excellent opportunities. Way to go! I would keep

Penn
MDACC
MSKCC
Wash U

and one back-up
Emory (since you don't want to live in NY)

Thanks for posting since this post will bring a lot of bright smiles and hope to lots of your IMG colleagues.
