Or Columbia just has competitive enough applicants that they can select for both high DAT scores and the other factors that make an applicant well-rounded. Don't be salty just because you didn't get an interview offer.

Also if Columbia consistently selects for high DAT they have a good reason, not "just want high stats". High DAT score probably correlates with strong performance in their dental program.

Agreed. It's probably a better indicator than looking at GPA when you have 4.0 universities such as Loyola going up against tougher universities such as UC-Berkley or whatever.

Uhhh... Firstly, those of us who didn't get an interview offer today doesn't mean we won't get an interview at a later date.... so therefore, there's no need to be "salty."

Secondly, I was hoping Columbia was more of a school that wants to add diverse experiences, students and not just a BAG of high DAT scores. It's sounding a lot like harvard and that's specifically why I didn't apply. Just because I'm looking for a school that accepts a diverse set of applicants and not just some students who know how to take standardized tests doesn't mean I'm bitter... It's just my preference. So, now you can get off your high horse and move forward. Thanks.

P.S. Based on your "logic" shouldn't the schools ranked higher than Columbia (which are quite a few) be looking for candidates with high DAT scores as those are the ones that "correlate with strong performance in their dental program." As we can see, UPENN (Ranked higher than columbia...) does NOT...

You are clearly salty. You are assuming there is not diversity of experience among those with high DAT scores, without backing up why. Unless you meant diversity in terms of academic ability, which is silly.

I've never seen a dental school "ranking" taken seriously by actual dental students (or dentists, or adcoms...) but I said high DAT score correlates with strong performance at their (Columbia's) program. That does not necessarily mean it correlates with strong performance at all programs.

Dilute that salt, son.

I agree with DentCornell. I have nothing against Columbia and I'm not being "salty". But please don't deny the fact that they looking for a certain dat score and if you don't have that "certain dat score" they will not look at the rest of your application. Which is ridiculous because like DentCornell just beautifully said, some people are just better at taking standardized tests than others. Doesn't mean they are going to be better dentists.

P.S don't be so arrogant

They're not looking for a certain DAT score - they don't simply select the applicants with all the highest DAT scores that applied (if they did their DAT average would be higher than a 23). Columbia is simply competitive enough that they can select students that excel in all areas, rather than those who are weak in one area but make up for it in others.

And stop the "some people are just better at taking standardized tests" nonsense. You don't do yourself any favors by making excuses. Standardized testing is a reflection of preparation, it's not a magical talent.

Your wrong. Columbia does not have the best reputation in producing the top dentists out there. They do have a strong name (based on their stats of acceptance). Coming to show that they not accepting students based on what a great dentist they will be, rather based on how good they will make the school look.

You are basing this on what, hearsay?

And if Columbia does not have the best reputation in producing top dentists, why do you care what their admission criteria is in the first place? Shouldn't you not be interested in a school like that?

I am very connected with dental students from Columbia and with the residency programs at New York....the word gets around

This is going to sound bad.....

But with schools having the ability to offer
A+ grades, it allows schools to have the ability to choose students with very low grades ,C-, be accepted, and allows schools to declare a 3.3 accepted average amongst enrollees... And be diversified.....

I can't imagine the students that will be applying next year. When they go back to this thread to see the statistics of students that are getting interviews, they are going to encounter SDN drama... SEVERAL PAGES OF DRAMA. Geez, write a book already.

MOSDOH or ASDOH?

So anyone in the same boat as me? I submitted late (8/9) and am still waiting on transcripts to be verified. Did it take your transcripts the full 4-6 weeks to get verified?

yea I am in a similar boat as you, except this time, my boat has a lot of holes and im swimming in anxiety and panic. aka waiting for interview after app is verified sent and supplemental submitted.

PS: the people who submitted in june, it took them 3-4 days (3 days for me) and the later you submit (probably in august) the longer and probably the time willr each 4-6 weeks.

P.S; you will find someone in same boat as you if you post in submit/verified thread not thsi one

What schools did you apply to? The feeling does suck... I'll admit...

I hope NYU starts this week...

the problem I think is that I won't be the first app to be considered because a lot of people got complete email even before mail out date, my LOrs arrive just a few day before first batch mail out date. Plus, I wait until the primar is mailed and then submit supplemental though some schools suggest submit the supplemental right away

Look at post 1039 in this thread...someone said they called NYU and they were told invites won't go out til Sept -__-
Yeah I saw that. I am hoping it's a farse... Last year they were sent out like last week. THIS WAIT WILL KILL ME.

Well I wouldn't worry, I bet you are still early. The cycle is young!
