1) Keep the list in the body when you reply
2) Please sort alphabetically by state
3) Try to say what school/program you are adding in the subject line
4) It would be helpful if the person who FIRST adds a program could also include the date they received their invite.

Please include these instructions when you quote - And quote the last list available!
Step 1: Click on the blue "QUOTE" button at the bottom right of the last post (don't copy and paste since it will not pick up the HTML code for boldface fonts).
Step 2: Remove the bracketed things at the very beginning and very end. (QUOTE=username;numbers) and (/QUOTE) - where the parentheses are brackets.
Step 3: Make your additions, then post. Please type what you are adding in the title/subject line so people won't have to search the whole post to see what you added.

EXACTLY! Hope we're not just going to see a bunch of look-at-me posts, i.e. those exclusively posting here and in the ROL thread that will ensue at the beginning of 2016. Posting here should entail a mandatory review following interview. So step up kids.

I've obviously graduated by now, but those interview threads were helpful no so much for applicants but for those of us putting on the interview day. We liked knowing what people are thinking so that we know what has been going well, and what needs to be corrected when we interview... stuff like communication, how much people enjoyed the presentation, concerns about the program that weren't being addressed during the day, etc really help us make the interview day as informative and helpful for the applicants as possible.

Last year people expressed anxiety about posting their responses, which I understand, but we read them to look at ourselves, not you.

As someone said last year, time to grow a pair... Or send the post to one of our mods and stay anonymous.

I've always wondered why "growing a pair" is supposed to make you tougher when balls are such a major point of vulnerability.

Touche. Eunuchs have historically found safety and comfort in the confines of royal courts. Obedient indeed.

Could "a pair" also refer to a rocking set of ovaries though?

I realize this is undeniably a neurotic question, but if someone is calling to offer an interview spot, what will happen if we miss the call or can't answer for some reason? Will they call back or do they just move on to the next person on their list and forget you?

Another neurotic question: how gauche is it to request to change your interview date after you've confirmed it? Say, within the first few days or week.

What will happen if we miss the call or can't answer for some reason?

Anywhere I had a call for an interview, they would also send an email or at least leave a call-back number. On one occasion, I called back a few days later...the dates were more filled up, but I was easily able to schedule.

how gauche is it to request to change your interview date after you've confirmed it?

Just explain why, be gracious and polite, and let them know as soon as you can so you can hopefully schedule a new date. I never had a problem with this, and they have it happen all the time during the interview season. Even more challenging for them are last minute cancellations, so it's most considerate to try to be early and minimize interruptions in your schedule...but they all know things happen!!

If we want to interview you, missing a phone call will not change our interest in your application.

For those of you, the vast vast vast vast majority, still waiting - we are still waiting for Dean's Letters etc before reviewing and also do not hold that against you or your application.

This. That's why this thread is useful (or a tool for worsening anxiety) because you'll maybe figure out if a program you applied to has started sending out interview invites.

I feel your worry! I have what I think is a pretty solid application (albeit from a DO school) and haven't heard a peep from the 40-something places I applied to. And when you see and know of people landing invites from some of those same places the uh-oh prompt starts buzzing a bit.

I'm also from a DO school and only took the COMLEX. I applied to 30 places and haven't heard back from any either!

I just noticed that I accidentally checked the "advanced psychiatry" track instead of "categorical psychiatry" track for Johns Hopkins, and I haven't heard back for an interview. Should I email the program director or coordinator to let them know?

Totally variable. I got interviews less than 24 hours after submitting and others that I think didn't invite me until november.

I wish I had kept my notes on it, but when I went through this hell 2 years ago, I submitted on the first day (Sept 15), and I heard from about a third of the programs in the first week, and nearly 2/3 of the programs in the first 3 weeks. The last program I received an invite from came in mid October. By October 15 or so, I am pretty sure I had heard from all the programs I would hear from, a total of 18 invites out of 25 apps, and a couple of rejections - I sent an email to 3 or 4 of the remaining programs I was most interested in, but never heard from them.

After that, it was crickets...I can't think of a single invite or rejection I got after that - some programs send rejection emails, but many just never send anything, the "silent" rejections...but my memory may be a little faulty here. All I remember is that the invite flow really slowed down by the end of the first week of October for me, and for lots of other people in that cycle reported similar experiences in mid October.

I agree, it is totally variable and dependent on where you applied. For instance, programs that don't really start interviewing until December may not have even sent out any invites yet and may not get around to it for another month. But if this cycle is anything like the one I went through, things will really start slowing down in the first half of October.

I don't want to alarm the anxious folks reading this thread, but if you really sent out a bunch of apps on day 1 and have heard nothing at this juncture, it probably wouldn't hurt to send out some more apps.

Aren't all psychiatry programs simply categorical? Someone else may chime in here, but I don't think it matters if you checked the wrong box.

I don't want to alarm the anxious folks reading this thread, but if you really sent out a bunch of apps on day 1 and have heard nothing at this juncture, it probably wouldn't hurt to send out some more apps.
I sent out like 45. Definitely above average stats both usmle and Comlex, step 1 and 2 for both, plus have the PE in the bag. All honors. Multiple psych rotations. Solid LORs (going by their feedback). Applied w the 1/3 rule and limited my reaches to those who give DOs a shot. I may be bugging, but I don't think adding more programs is happening. If I were at 30 I would though.

It's either the most competitive season of all time and then some, or places are holding off for some reason or another. What are the odds of applications actually not getting to a program? I haven't heard back from a place or two that are not competitive yet friends with significantly lower stats (and no usmle) have gotten invites. Granted our school has some Deans letters up and others not (me), so not sure if that's playing a role.

Anyhow, I'm gonna try and chill. This isn't as fun as I thought it would be!

Ultimately you don't need 45 interviews, or 25, or even 15. If you end up with say 6 to 8 interviews, you will be in good shape, and it is probably too early to panic, I agree.

FWIW, I got a bunch of invites before the dean's letter was uploaded in late September, so I don't think that is holding you back. Not sure what the explanation is.

Nothing fun about any of it, that's for sure.

Good luck.

Thanks Psychotic!

Dean's letters have not come in yet for most of you. Thus most programs are not going to be offering interviews since we have not reviewed your full application. Maybe if you are an internal candidate at your own medical school / residency then the dean's letter is less important (not sure?!) - but the reason you are not hearing back is that he are still waiting on our end. Again, we do not hold this against you in any way - we know what the timeline is ... and so do you! Patience is a virtue?
