I’ve taken it 3 times

You can take it more than 3 times after a year from your last date. You do have to request it from the ADA and they usually want to see that you have applied to and rejected from a school. But I’m assuming you probably don’t want to do that... I wouldn’t either and rather take a few classes to boost my sGPA.

Okay thanks, I thought 3 was the max. It’s just not the same as being 22 and only having to worry about myself financially. Taking classes just for the sake of taking classes and it having no utility to making me a better dentist just seems so pointless but I know the utility is getting into dental school. I guess I’m more frustrated by what I’ve done to this point is seen as “not enough.”

Trust me I understand your frustration. I have 3 AS degrees, 1 BS degree and taking so much additional upper lever science classes that I’ve almost earned another in Biology. I’m married with step-kids, and this past year I’ve had to sacrifice a lot. I’ve missed out on many activities because I was too busy studying for the DAT pretty much all year long (I’ve also taken it 3 times), volunteering, working a part time job, taking a few classes... everyone around me can see how bad I want this. If I don’t get in this round, I will be truly upset. All I have is a plan A so I’m going to make it happen one day and do whatever I can to make it possible.

If you do a post-bac program, what is a good course of study?

I hear ya too. I'm also a non-traditional reapplicant with a finance degree. Started a 1 year master this June at LECOM for a back-up (if you maintain a 3.0 gpa, you get an interview) but got into somewhere else Dec 1st so i'm definitely dropping the 2nd half. It's tough, time-consuming, and cost extra but that's just what I had to do in case I was put in the same position as you. A girl that started the master program w/ me was in the same position as you until August, and she was off the waitlist. I say 3 schools will give you a good fighting chance, but in case the odds are not in your favor, I'd start looking at things/programs to do to give you the extra edge!

Some do a 1 one year biomedical masters program, and others can take more upper-level Bio classes to boost sGPA/oGPA. This would work for me just because I don't have a BS in Bio. Maybe others can recommend something.... I was looking into the UF online master in microbiology. With your situation, an online program may be best for you so you can work and go to school.

Accepted to UT Houston and UT San Antonio 🙂!!!

WOW CONGRATS!!!! Do you mind sharing your stats?? I'm a TX resident, I still have another year or 2 before I apply.
So great you got accepted to both!!

I really appreciate the direction. I will have to consider this if the worst case scenario comes to fruition

Hey,

Can you please check your pm? Thanks!

I applied to Harvard, UPenn, BU, Maryland, Columbia, and NYU this cycle (i know:dead:), but my applications were completed super late (Around October 20th).
Should I be concerned that it's silence from all of them? I wonder if they're still giving out interviews at this time? Any thoughts on my chances for this cycle? Comments are greatly appreciated! Stats attached below.
(Also I'm new to the forum. Please let me know if this is the right place to post 🙂)

Residency: Canada (but international citizenship)
GPA (science, overall): 3.76, 3.74
DAT: AA21, TS19, PAT22, RC24, none below 17

Just received my first interview! Feeling super excited and grateful, considering how late I submitted my applications.
School: Boston University
Notification date: Dec 13

AADSAS mail-out date: Oct 9
Application complete date: Oct 20

Just got invited to interview at UCLA at the end of January!!!! Crazy times man... haven't even decided where to put my deposit and then this adds another (exciting) complication.

GPA: 3.65
DAT: 21
CA resident

Besides filling out the FAFSA, is there anything else that I need to do in terms of finances at this stage?
Will I have to take out any private bank loans, or are all loans from the government?
The financial aid office package comes in the Spring, right?
:diebanana:<===loans had me like..

1. UConn: wait listed
2. Temple: still under review
(Both interviewed October)
3. Penn: ACCEPTED! 🙂
(Interviewed end of November)
4. Maryland: ACCEPTED! 🙂
(Interviewed end of last week, Dec.)

25AA, 25TS, 24PAT, 25RC (non below 17). Gpa 3.7.
I really like Penn, but hoping to get some money. It is super expensive.

Still waiting on a couple other schools. I retook by DAT late October, so holding out.

I am in the EXACT same position as you! I am in love with Penn, but I realize that it is not worth the money. So I am depositing at Maryland.

Yea, it is frustrating seeing people with lesser stats than me receive money, but I think its more indicative of an earlier acceptance. I talked to admissions on the phone, and it seems they handed out a lot of scholarship with the Dec. 1 acceptances. So I would just wait and hold out.

So you will deposit at several schools? If so, which ones?

The thing that still holds me back is that the renewal of scholarship each year at Penn is performance dependent. I am afraid of the hypothetical situation in which I might **** up my GPA and will lose the aid. You never know, you never know... And I am a bit overprotective ...

UMKC - waitlisted (interview last week of October)
Kentucky - waitlisted (interview last week of October)
Louisville - waitlisted (interview 11/20)
Creighton - still under consideration
Missouri school of dentistry and oral health (kirksville, MO) - still under consideration
Roseman - still under consideration
Midwestern AZ - still under consideration
AT Still AZ - still under consideration

Hoping to hear good news soon. Interviews went great but I’m planning for the worst. Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted so far!

Probably deposit the two I got accepted, but leaning to penn. I have one more interview at a school coming up I am interested in. As for you, don’t sweat it. Just do your best in school that’s all you can control. Sounds cliche haha, but that’s my motto.

Didn't want to open up a new thread about this, and since we are pretty much all one a similar boat, was wondering if someone could tell me whether or not we need to make any updates/corrections to our FAFSA once we figure out what school we are attending.

For instance, I decided I am going to school X, but in my FAFSA form I listed all the schools I applied to (even the ones I didn't hear back from yet). Do I need to go back and remove those schools so that school X is only on my list? Or are no FAFSA modifications required at all and simply wait to hear back?

As long as your chosen school is on there, I wouldn't waste my time.

Hang in there! I have the same overall stats as you, but 1 section under 17 and 1 at exactly 17. I think it was the rest of my application and my interview that sealed the deal. 🙂 Don't give up!

Thanks! The other two pre-dec schools that I am waiting on are my state schools so fingers crossed! I had one section...I got a 17 on BIO.... but took an upper level bio this semester and received an A. Boy do I have respect for people who go through this admissions process more than once. Congrats on your acceptance btw!!
