I know this is quite early but most American Students have finished giving the test for this year.
I am an IMG and have been prepping for the steps since quite some time and have seen Phloston, Transposony's and others' threads for their respective years and how helpful they have been.

I intend on giving step in Jan.. let's share timetables, plans and other stuff on how everyone intends on taking on this beast.

P.S. : I think it is not that early.. the 2015/2016 threads were started in September/October.. but in true SDN gunner style..i wanna start it in August.. 🙂

careless because of tiredness ? What was the problem of doing careless mistakes?

The exam is long. The person who was supposed to fingerprint/sign me back in after lunch was on a bathroom break, so I lost some time. Lunch was also a little bit rushed. Mistakes are a normal because these little things happen... if they didn't we'd all score super high.

exactly, just have to limit them as much as possible on big day which seems like a lot of us do.

Nbd, only the most important exam of your life. By all means, take your sweet ass time on that dump!

Haha, I'll post back in a few weeks with my score. I felt like I was crisp in the beginning but then in the latter half I started to second guessing myself, changing a bunch to the incorrect choice. I'm sincerely worried since my running list is already at 20.

everyone always remembers their mistakes, what score are you aiming for?

half them probabaly wont even count 🙂

Was aiming for high 230s? I'm interested in IM in New York (which is where I am). As long as I fall in that range I think that gives me a decent shot.
yeah it does, I hope you get it!!

Ive been looking on frieda and other websites for a while. a lot of programs and the highest filter from what I have seen at 230, most are around 220 for competitive places but a lot of community with no minimum.

having said that most places mid tier to top say average current resident is 221-240 range

top tiers are greater than 240 which were few but they also had 88-100% US grads with 1-8% percent IMG rest being DO

if your an IMG you also look at last 3 years of IMG vs US grad percent and you will see if you score that high you have tons of options

of course step 1 is the start but its a big point to make sure your not filtered so your step 2 and other parts of applications help you

I marked 8-12 questions a block for first 6 blocks and for the last block i marked 15. around 75 on whole exam

i changed 2 right answers to incorrect
I completely guessed 1 because of time
1 left unmarked-first time ever
5 i had read question and marked but didnt have time so just marked anything I could with 15 secs left (bad idea cause screen lags and you get screwed) so always mark an answer before moving on. never made that mistake again after that block.

so i would say didnt have time for 7 questions on whole exam and 2 stupid mistakes, probabaly cost me a good 5-10 points

im ok with it, its not gonna matter if i have a 232 or a 238

It's a silly question but I don't know it yet. When you mark a question what happens next? You finish your block and marked questions pop-up second time? And what happens if put some answer say A) and mark this question, then I do rest of the questions, but unfortunately in the end I will not have enough time to review that damn question, will that answer A) count considering that question left marked? ... Does 15 min tutor video on nbme web site contain the answers to my questions? If yes I will check there to not bother you )

marking a question is entirely for you. some people mark in hopes to return later if they have time, some people mark because there not 100% sure and count is at potenitally being wrong so at the end of the exam you have an idea of how you did. Real exam does not have an option for marked questions to pop up. dont worry when you do the free 120 on usmle website its the same software on step 1 so you will be comfortable after doing that and all your questions will be answered.

as long as you put an answer it will count wether its marked or not. Marking holds value only to test taker, it hold no significance to grading exam.

I'm about 2 months out until the exam date, is Bro's kind of too late to be used at this point in time?

How people are doing in NBME 19? I was doing so well in my scores... and then it took nbme 19 and it went so down... i got a 209... i dont want to take it anymore its literally next friday but my school obligates me but now I'm like super discouraged after this, i thought i was going to kill it and get like a 230

The scale on NBME 19 seems more harsh than the others, so don't take it too hard on yourself. Are there any NBMEs left to take? Might help to take one to regain your confidence.

Thank you for taking you're time in answering me. I still have NBME 15 left. Took NBME 17 and 16 already which got 220 and 230. Then Uworld Assesment 1 237 and 2 245. The last one i took was UWSA2. And then this one today which I got 209 and now Im like discouraged and not even in the mood to study because I thought I was doing well. Like even getting in all blocks of UWORLD 80-90% in the last 10 blocks. The others i stupidly took them last semester for COMP studying so it would be a waste of time taking them. So I just have NBME 15 left. I was thinking to take it tonight at 9pm. Take an adderall and do it focusing on it to see and then just study all my weaknesses compared with NBME 19 and NBME 15 from tomorrow to next thursday, which exam is on friday. Do u think thats a good idea? Im like so confused at this point.

Don't take it at night. I wouldn't use anything you haven't already been using/or/have been prescribed.

Remember, it was you who got a 230 on NBME 16. You can do this, it is in your capacity.

I would review NBME 19 if you can. Separate stupid mistakes from gaps in your knowledge. Fill those gaps with FA.

Take NBME 15 in the morning in 2-3 days, after you've done your review. Take it around the same time your exam will start in the morning (9 am usually).

Let us know how it goes.

Score release date for Monday 3/27 would be 4/19, correct?

And bah, freaking out still. Highest score on anything was UWSA #1, which was a 232.
I heard they corrected the UWSA assessments curve so that is good. And also, some people in the real deal for some reason do better than in practice tests. There is a huge difference going in VS doing it at home for some people. Good luck by the way and be positive and think positive. You did awesome, I can feel it!

Thank you so much for this. I feel better now. Its incredible how a practice test can put a person so down lol. I will definitely take you're advice. Congratulations btw, I saw you killed it! Totally admire you! Wish you a lot of success and positivity in the near future!

Your NBME scores seem pretty solid, you should be alright. I took NBME 19 today as well and the margin of error is so tight that just making 3-4 stupid mistake will lower your score a lot. Don't discourage yourself, you'll be alright

I would listen to his advice, especially about medications.

A kid in my class took adderall the last few days of studying and during test day, he never took it previously and he said he couldnt think properly because his mind was racing on test day (you already have so much adrenaline). his scores on nbme and uwsa was 230-240 he ended up scoring 209, so be very very careful. he did redeem himself with CK but that step 1 will stay with him. He wanted to do anesthesia

dont change what you have been doing.

OMGG NO!! dont worry, I take it since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism because of lack of energy since years ago hehe. Im sorry if I scared you guys. But thank you for both of you being worried and caring btw <3 You guys are definitely right. Adderall can be addicting and can be harmful, thats why they prescribe them and they are controlled. Some people take advantage of them. I always take the same dose thou. Dont take that much. Its just for my energy since my hypothyroidism is REALLY bad which has given me concentration difficulty, even taking the thyroid pills i still have problems, since its hashimoto the autoimmune disorder.

actually april 7th will come out april 26th...a week starts on saturday and finishes friday....so the closer you are to friday the least amount of time you have to wait because for people who take saturday-wednesday that weeks wednesday does not count.

Trust me you will be glad your not waiting more than 20 days.

That the reason I changed my exam from monday to thursday-4 more days of studying and results still come out on the same day 🙂 it's a good thing to remember for step 2 as well

Thank you for this, I love how people give support here. Wish I knew about this forum before during my study period. Would've been nice since all my friends are in party mode and in other stuff and I really dont have who to talk about things like these.

the current group of girls/guys on this thread are awesome, its not the norm on SDN. I love this group.

lol friday is the best day-least amount of wait time (19 days). No need to be nervous now, just go all out on each question and trust your prep.
I think most people debate even opening there scores once they get the email, I waited an hour and made my mum do it.

I literally just told my father to be prepared mentally to open it that day HAHAH! Im totally not opening it.

Hi everyone! Im in the middle of my dedicated and had a quick question for people on here who've already taken the test.

Basically, I have ~3 weeks of dedicated left and have enough time in my schedule to do 3 practice tests + free 120.

I'll definitely be doing 17 and 18 as 2 of those 3 tests but I'm really conflicted on whether or not I should do 19. On the one hand, its probably a good idea to do the latest NBME for obvious reasons, but on the other hand, Im really scared with the reports on the low scores on NMBE 19. Knowing myself, low scores like that really kill my spirit/my motivation/confidence, and Im not sure Im up for that so close to test date. Im also in the score range (250-260ish) that i feel like confidence matters a lot for a good test day performance. If I didn't do 19, I would do UWSA2 instead (though UWSA1 grossly overestimated for me so idk how useful that would be).

Anyway, long story short, I'd love to hear from you all about whether or not NBME 19 is worth doing, even though it might be a huge hit to my confidence to see a low score.

@peoplewhoactuallyusedit

Ya, definitely too late. It took me 6 months. I started in the middle of M2 (hard as **** I might add). The reviews alone will be the equivalent of burying yourself under a pile of M1/M2 books. Go through first aid/pathoma and UWorld as many times as possible at this pt

260!

Ecstatic to say the least. I'll do a full write up soon, because I have a LOT of thoughts I want to share.

Thank you all for the support!
Oh my !! finally you got you report , should be so happy isnt it ?
im expecting mine this wednesday , wish me luck and pray for me!

Who else is expecting a score this wednesday (april 5th) ? , Mines on april 5th , and im super worried about it .
Hope its all fine , and i get a good score.

Yes!! I took it that day and I heard it's 4 Wednesdays for us. I think it's safe to say we had a very similar if not identical exam. How did you feel?
I think i'm going to be too scared to open those results too...

we are in the same situation more or less. Let's pray that it will go well so that after our exams we can go party like crazy. It's so difficult to start studying when the spring comes, so many distractions

Honestly, I felt like the questions were overall less difficult than the most recent NBMEs- a lot of really straightforward ones. What I'm worried about is the fact that I ended up changing correct to incorrect at least a dozen times in the last few blocks. I felt like a champ for the first 4 blocks, but all that hard work/focus is betrayed by *******ery at the end. That's why I'm stressed out. How did you feel? Also will neither confirm nor deny that scores are released around my birthday. Sigh

I also felt like the questions were not as vague as NBME and much easier than some of the harder Uworld questions. Many easy recall questions, I also switched around some answers... some questions were so simple I think my mind started playing tricks on me. I'm worried that the curve will be pretty brutal, I feel like I lost many points on the easy stuff. It's so hard to say, I marked a lot so I have no idea what my score will be. I came out feeling okay because the questions weren't extremely difficult, but when I started remembering my mistakes I was depressed for like 3 days after the exam. I couldn't sleep at night and I just wanted to cry... guys... I think i'm going to have a massive arrhythmia or something when that score report comes out.

lol I'm still at the can't sleep stage. I start rotations in a week and I'm going to have to get over it soon.

I can't get the idea or what to wait from the real deal. Some people get easy forms as you both, some get average of easy + some vague damn questions, the other part gets heavy biostat and micro and score normal on nbme but get 200 on the real deal ... Can't get the idea why do they do this, why the test can't be hard for all and standardized? Why somebody get's lucky and gets easy form, and if he/she had enough time to master easy recall factoids - they will do great and break the limits, on the other hand people get heavy vague forms, not frequently but they do - those outliers are not lucky on that day. The only thing I hope about - to not be that outlier.

I think all forms are very similar. It is just different people have different meaning of the "difficult". Funny but some tell that uworld is easier than nbme (even if their corrects are 20% lower in uw)

When someone said it's easy, it's because they either studied every punctuation mark in FA, or they got a batch of questions that played to their strengths. This is random chance, and the only way to overcome it is, again, studying FA thoroughly. Another factor to consider is that some questions are more difficult than others, and one test-taker might get a few more of those. That makes the test day uncomfortable, but each test is scaled accordingly. They know the difficulty level of each question.

Thank you for you opinions.

Of course uworld is harder than nbme, more direct questions. uworld doesn't ask you direct questions + stems are longer + and uworld is tricking you.

For me uworld > nbme > free 150

have not tried Kaplan, and will not I guess. For example ANTI-PD1 have done 800 Kaplan questions and my friend has never done a single, but they both scored 260. I prefer to do infinite times uworld, and know each concept 100 than to waste time on Kaplan concepts, maybe I am wrong and I will pay for that. But evidence tells me that people do score 250 + without Kaplan, so I will do only ufap as many times as I can. One more time maybe I am wrong.

I'm not sure how others feel about this, but as I'm about to finish up my first pass of UW, the questions are feeling more and more straight forward. Maybe it's just my brain getting used to figuring out what they're asking. My overall average is around 65% -- I started around the 50%s and have been averaging in the 75-80%s recently.

If it indeed is "more difficult" it will have a better curve, its all accounted for so that should not be a concern. You should be ready even if you get 280 micro questions, thats the point of studying weaknesses. When your NBME shows that nothing cross the borderline line you have no real weaknesses left so it does not matter what they throw at you, however lets say everything is strong and your cardio is lower performance and your don't want to study it, thats a huge risk your taking and can impact your score quite a bit! This is just my opinion, I worked on NBME weaknesses and on the real deal I had not one subject cross the borderline area, infact the lower performance on NBME had stars on real exam. I had never had an NBME graph like that but each time I took it I eliminated more and more weaknesses, so NBME 18 I only had two weak spots left which I turned into stars!

I'm telling you my story to give you hope and wipe away negativity.

I also believe people let fear and anxiety get the best of them during test day because they dont trust there prep, they did not stress themselves on NBME's instead they sit at home all comfortable and they dont have a game plan.

Thats how it is man, it just starts to click and you get used to it. After step 1 I thought I did decent so I came home and did 2 blocks of uworld, and i got 80% on both. So I was confident in my feelings post exam. I know I'm crazy to do this but I had to. I was so close to do NBME 19 as well lmao
