I know this is quite early but most American Students have finished giving the test for this year.
I am an IMG and have been prepping for the steps since quite some time and have seen Phloston, Transposony's and others' threads for their respective years and how helpful they have been.

I intend on giving step in Jan.. let's share timetables, plans and other stuff on how everyone intends on taking on this beast.

P.S. : I think it is not that early.. the 2015/2016 threads were started in September/October.. but in true SDN gunner style..i wanna start it in August.. 🙂

Oh no! I wonder if they've started designing the questions to lie outside the information covered in Sketchy 🤔
personally I think sketchy is good but it misses stuff thats in FA, kaplan and questions, not to mention you definitely need to look at slides on the internet so you can recognize different resolutions and stains.

I definitely would have missed some questions if I did sketchy alone, but my micro/immuno was higher performance. Immuno DIT 2015/2016 videos are perfect

Yeah, I agree. I personally need to work on histo recognition and diagnosis. But I definitely plan on pairing DIT with Sketchy.

So quick question for anyone who was in the same boat or has advice for me. I got a 150 or so on a CBSE back in January (for school) and I got a 180 last Friday for a dedicated baseline. I've been cranking DIT and sketchy in the meantime, but I did my first 40 UWorld yesterday for a 55% (I know the n is too low to really tell). Is it possible to hit a 230? I'm also finding it takes FOREVER to do UWorld questions.

Kind of hard to reasonably answer your question with no gauge on how long you have.

You still have more than 2500 questions on UWorld. Why not keep going and learning from it.

As an aside, I'm at a similar place to you. I score in the 170's during a practice test early in the year and then in the 180's during my dedicated baseline. Taking some commitments into account, I have about 5-6 weeks of prep time left.

Any last minute tips for someone who is taking their test this coming Saturday? I don't feel prepared at all, but I just want the suffering to end!

RELAX.

Just don't think about it. I'm taking the test on Tuesday. Don't feel prepared either LOL.
I was gonna take it 4 weeks ago and Prometric rescheduled it. I thought I would do SO MUCH haha but yeah, I found myself at the same spot.

Anyway, it's almost over. Relax and go and take it 🙂

Did you do any NBMEs?

I've done all of the NBMEs, UWSA1 and 2, and free 120. I'm so tired of seeing multiple choice questions. :vomit::vomit:

Why did Prometric reschedule your test?

Why did Prometric reschedule your test?

I was going to take the test 1 day after the snowstorm in New York. I started the exam, answered 5 questions and the system shut down. Waited 2 hours until they told me that the entire East Coast was affected and I needed to reschedule. Waited 2 weeks for a new permit.

I'm so over it. I just want to go there and write the exam.

What were your scores if you don't mind me asking? I'm trying not to read horror stories on forums lol about the difficulty of the exam 😛

Make sure to share your experience here 🙂 and good luck!!!!

That sucks, man.

Most recent tests I took were NBME 18, 19, and the free 120:
NBME 18 (8 days out): 242; I was stoked since I just want to break 240 on the real deal
NBME 19 (4 days out): 228; I was really discouraged and confused at this point since I got the same number of Qs wrong on 18 and 19...
Free 120 (2 days out): 87.5%

You will definitely break 240.
NBME 19 is very new and I think it hasn't been calibrated well.

Fingers crossed! You will get it 🙂

Of course...I have 3.5 weeks left until my test date. I'm definitely going to keep plowing along with UWorld.

if you can go from a 180-230 in 3-4 weeks, that would be pretty epic.

I think its possible if you have limited sources and figured out how to do questions, and work on nbme weaknesses. Of course its going to take a lot of discipline and long days, but you can do it for sure.

for me it took 5-6 weeks to go from 203-230+ just as a reference. Then again 215-232 took 4.5 days apparently ao who the hell knows. A lot more factors are in play than knowledge

I know 🙁 I'm still hopeful and will just keep working. Between DIT, Pathoma, Sketchy, and UWorld I hope it improves quickly...

I get like 50-55 on these UW blocks I've been doing recently on tutor and random... is that good enough to pass this CBSE exam you think?

No, unfortunately that will not be good enough. 50-55% on UW means that there are a lot of gaps in your foundation. 55-60% is even pushing a pass in CBSE.

Best way to tell is to take an online NBME, for some reason people at my school thought they could fail an online NBME and then get lucky and pass CBSE by school and they never did.

Approaching my first pass of Uworld, I should be done with it by the beginning of dedicated (6 weeks before test day). Would it be better to redo my incorrects before resetting it or just reset it once I finish the unused questions?

Hi everyone !
I got my score this week it was 242.
My advice to you to focus on UW, firstaid and pathoma.
My average NBME score 232
NBME 19 three days before the exam was 225.
Feel free to ask me any question.
Congratulations homie.

Could you write out the dates of when you took the NBMEs (and the scores) with respect to your test day and explain what you did in-between to improve your scores? Also any tips concerning NBMEs strategies would be dope

Thank you !
NBME 12 just before it was deactivated 211
NBME 15 227
NBME 16 232
NBME 17 235
NBME 18 232
NBME 19 225
All the exams were 3 weeks apart, except NBME 19 was 3 days before the real deal.
What helped me a lot, confidence in the exam, pathoma and UW.

Congratulations on your great score!! , just one question from me since I m expecting my results this coming Wednesday and the waiting is killing me, to what extent were you anticipating that result? Cause it blew NBME 19 out of the water and was well above your NBME average! ( i m very pessimistic about my performance on the real deal that's why I wanna know how you felt up until the results came out) congrats again!

I felt very bad after the exam and its normal, I was expecting less .

Just pushed back my test date to mid June. 60 days total now.

Took NBME 15 and got a 200. Going through my answers quite a few of my mistakes were that I knew the relevant information, but the specific way the question was asked or the way the answer choice was phrased threw me off.

Hard to know how to fix that.

Already been through 2x UW, finishing up Rx then going to do Kaplan...

what's happening after april 24?
Some changes in the question pool for step 1. There was a news release on the usmle website about it but no real specifics were discussed. It said something about using the free 120 to gauge the type of questions you will see on test day. They're probably just making some minor changes to the question pool, I wouldn't think it's anything major.

IMG here. I just got my results this past Wednesday. Like most of you I have been lurking on the sidelines and I just felt I should add my experience too to encourage others that you are not alone.

UWORLD: 75% first pass (94% on second pass of which I only did 47% of the qbank)
NBME 16: 236 (6 weeks out)
NBME 17: 240 (4 weeks out)
NBME 18: 246 (9 days out)
Free 120: 87.5 % (2 days out)

real deal: 253 :soexcited:

Materials used:

Pathoma videos
x2: Great resource indeed. I never read the book.

Kaplan Behavioral science videos (my weakest subjects area which I managed to change to stars on the real deal). Good resources, it helped me build the foundation I needed in order to understand the difficult concept that were in FA and uwolrd. I definitely recommend the videos. I remember after my nbme 16 I performed very badly on biostats and behavioral science. My performance had a star on the low side!

First Aid for Basic Sciences and First Aid for Organ Systems. These books were great for me because the helped me get a comprehensive review of the materials before I dived into uworld. The only downside is that they are a bit too old (released in 2012). First Aid team should release new edition!

Uworld: The most important resource in my opinion. It took me four months to do the first pass! Yes I am a slow reader sometimes I would do 25 questions only per day, doing just uworld from morning to evening. But I am glad I took all that time because it helped me absorb most of the high yield stuff and my nbme 16 actually shocked me because all I was aiming for was to get above 230. Hence I ended up taking other nbmes just to be sure that it was not a fluke.

First Aid 2017 together with usmlerx videos over the last 6 weeks. This was actually the first time I was opening FA in my entire life! It helped fill in the gaps in knowledge I had especially in those areas that arent covered well in uworld. So I took nbme 16 as the baseline before starting my dedicated studies. For my dedicated studying, over the last 6 weeks I focused on FA, usmlerx videos and uworld about one block per day. Basically I would spend the whole day doing usmlerx videos and FA, then do a block in random timed mode towards the end of the day. Some days I would even do less than a block per day. I did not believe in rushing, just slowly but sure was my approach.

The exam experience:

Well the first two blocks were hard. I marked about 15 questions on those blocks. The rest of the blocks had 5-6 difficult questions per block. My major take home from the experience and what actually helped me get a higher score was that I finished most of the blocks with a few seconds to spare. This helped because the only time I managed to finish with more than three minutes to spare I went back to some of my marked questions and changed correct answers to wrong ones! My advice to you dont second guess yourself UNLESS it clear you had missed something in the vignette then dont change you answer! Trust your instincts! Getting out of the exam I didnt know how I had performed and I basically repressed all exam content after realizing the five silly mistakes I had made. That helped me study a bit for step 2 CK without worries whilist I was waiting for my scores. Most of the questions I wasnt sure about I used process of elimination. It works!

Advice:

The most important thing is to know yourself and do whats best for you. Do whatever it is that will make you comfortable and absorb the most materials. First get your concepts straight then dive into UFAP. those three resources are more than enough to get a 250 plus score. The only problem is that people dive into UFAP with a shallow base. Its kinda difficult to get the most out of these resources if the fundamentals are not in place. Yeah that was long I hope it helps someone ace the exam.

God Bless.
