USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

And they keep saying they don't want to do this because they're worried about the "integrity" of the exam being compromised if this were allowed...no sweetheart what you're actually worried about is the money you'd have to refund to all of us. You're not fooling anyone here.
I could have cheated on any of my school-proctored NBMEs, easily. The security amounts to 1 lady snoozing in a corner while a room of 50+ people tests. When you go to the restroom they escort you there but don't ever go inside.

I would 100% worry about the integrity of the exam if they used that setup for Step 1.

Sounds like your school just doesn't care, then. We had 5-10 proctors walking up and down the aisles for every exam we took throughout M1 and M2. Proctors wait outside the bathroom and in the hallway, but it wouldn't be that hard to stick one in each bathroom just sitting in a chair by the sinks. It can be done, it may not be ideal but it's definitely doable. Don't make it seem like suddenly there will be rampant cheating if the exam is given outside of Prometric.

On a side note, how do you even cheat on Step 1 lol most of the questions aren't first order..

And tbh, if 1 out of every 500 a-holes don't have integrity and decide to cheat and get away with it than so be it. I would rather sacrifice that negligible difference on the curve or increase in the national average in order to take my exam in a reasonable timeframe. I don't think the overwhelming majority of med students are as dishonest (or have the balls to try it) as elfe is insinuating

Don't you have to end a block before you leave for a bathroom break, and blocks you've ended can't be accessed (for changing answers) anymore?

So I just logged onto the NBOME site and for my COMLEX it lists options to cancel or to reschedule, so I'm assuming I'm good? It's in July so I don't even know if any July cancellations have gone out yet? I think people were saying that they only saw the option to reschedule so there's must've already been cancelled, but not sure.

Because even second and third order rote recall Qs are a joke for my googlefu. On my test day, being able to check half a dozen answers on my hardest couple blocks would've been HUGE.

Agree my school clearly doesn't care much and trusts us. So ask yourself, are you OK with my step score being displayed alongside yours, knowing how different our proctoring environments were?

Well, I don't think NBME would allow your school to decide how to proctor. I'm sure there would be a procedure that any site administering the exam would have to follow.

I think all they have to do is come up with a protocol for proctoring and if you're school refuses to abide by the protocol then you aren't allow to be a testing location. It really is not that difficult

Has anyone who's been cancelled tried clicking on the confirm/reschedule button on the NBME website? Does it still confirm you as scheduled even if you've been cancelled?

Unfortunately, I think way more than 1 in 500 (at least out of my classmates) would be willing to do whatever it takes to get the score they want

My COMLEX date is still listed as a scheduled exam for June 22. But I know other people’s have said that as well for a June date but they found out through NBOME that’s it’s been cancelled. I don’t think they’re messing with July yet so you should be good for now.

NBOME actually provided some good info here? COMLEX-USA – Level 1 | Level 2-CE | Level 3 — NBOME

"Prometric will be rescheduling appointments on a rolling basis, with higher priority given to earlier exam dates. Therefore, candidates may continue to see their original date in the Prometric system until it’s been rescheduled. Candidates not impacted by a cancellation will receive a notification from Prometric outlining new test site safety procedures."

"Please note the NBOME portal system is not updated until Prometric provides revised appointment information to us. Scheduling changes are not immediate, and may take up to 24 hours to be live in our systems. Currently, NBOME is waiting for updated appointment information from Prometric. With this in mind, it may temporarily appear that a candidate’s appointment is still scheduled on the original date in the NBOME Portal"

So, does this mean it's better not to try and reschedule on our own, or?

I feel that. But I think if you had strong enough proctoring/surveillance protocol in place than you would be able to discourage the vast majority of people from cheating who would otherwise do it if they could get away with it. For example, say there's a 50% chance of getting caught and a 50% of getting away with it. Now say the consequences were extremely severe. That means there is a 50% percent chance that you are going to be barred from a medical license and ruin your career. My common sense is telling me that would eliminate any motivation to cheat with the exception of the most desperate.

Sorry, PM'ed you redundant stuff. Didn't know it's been posted there.

I'm in the boat of receiving a cancelation email from prometric, but both tests confirm on their site. I interpret this as being in the "needing the website to update" crowd. I have decided not to reschedule, mostly because I have no clue which exam needs to be rescheduled, and I'd rather keep at least one of them.

Not sure exactly what this is trying to say. WIll Prometric give us new dates or nah ?

Someone in my class GroupMe said that she spoke to a lady at the NBOME and she was told that there will be new dates released sometime this week so hopefully they can keep everyone on track as much as possible.

Hahahaha

I think this should be the official response statement from medical students.

My take is that they'll give us the "earliest available dates" for rescheduling by default but the way in which it is presented is delayed and confusing.

I'm planning on just sticking first aid in my shoe if they let us take it at school

July is still untouched I believe.

100% yes

So the consensus is that they’ll put out all the cuts by Thursday?

Yeah I saw on Reddit that cancellations will continue to go out through Thursday. I also saw that they can still cancel you as late as a week before your test date but I am crossing my fingers and toes that doesn't happen to any of us. I'd just like to know now one way or another so I can either continue on with my dedicated plan or reconfigure it to fit a new test date.

I'd like to think this is just something they have to say logistically-- like yeah, they can cancel you at any time. People get cancelled the day of their exams because the A/C broke at the place or whatever. But it doesn't make sense to me that this would be a common thing they plan on doing, because if they've already axed 50%, why would they suddenly need to cancel more? But, as always, the answer remains that no one f***cking knows.

First person on Reddit has reported a COMLEX cancellation for July 27th. Not sure if accurate or maybe they're at one of the sites that's closed till the 31st, cause otherwise that seems super early..

Had a friend reschedule to a different state successfully for one of the last days in June. They live along state borders, so just slightly a farther drive
Im jealous. Wondering if that's a real open spot or Prometric didnt block out people who cancel their appointment because of the 50% thing

Prometric reassigned me a random test date in July (was supposed to take in early June) in a very different state. But I was playing around on their site this morning and was able to find a slot on June 10

I got the e-mail yesterday and was on hold for hours without any response. Finally got a hold of both NBME and NBOME this morning and found out my COMLEX was safe and Step in June had been cancelled. Does anyone know if Prometric will reschedule the exam for us?

Today they officially emailed me that my 05/05/2020 in Sacramento, ca ,appointment has been cancelled due to govt. required social distancing. But i changed my date to May 22 to a bigger center in Oakland, ca

I changed my date 2 days ago, i knew they will send me an email and cancel my exam.

Well, I'm just assuming I'm cancelled. I haven't gotten any emails but I feel like they just haven't come in. I put my confirmation # in Prometric last night and it came up as confirmed, but then it said it would send me an email within 15 minutes confirming my details. Never got the email.

Do u guys think August appointments will be safe? My cancellation email does say due to government required social distancing.
