USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

I'm really sick of fluctuating UWorld scores. Went from my 92 yesterday to a 60 and then a 67 today. Gonna attribute it to being tired post-NBME and also the block averages were pretty low for both of them (tons of questions where the third most commonly picked answer was the correct one lol) but it still seems like such a huge discrepancy to be 25-30 points apart. It makes me super nervous for test day. Idk, just venting.

I wouldnt worry lol I have a good amount of friends that were all over the place all the way up until test day but their overal avg was pretty high like yours. Your avg of almost 76% should have you feeling pretty baller for test day. Remember the sample size on test day is bigger-you get 280 questions not 40 to prove what you know. That one 40 block could have played to ur weaknesses. I dont think a whole exam is gonna do that

Was Pathoma ch 1 -3 important for yours? Planning on doing it before based on what others are saying

I definitely had 5-10 questions on that material. Super useful imo. I know I missed a pharm question or two because I didn’t get to those sketchy videos which sucks, but oh well.

Question!

How deep does this biostats crap go anyway? DIT is trying to teach me how to calculate the standard error of the mean and using it plus the Z constants and mean to get a confidence interval. Seems like a complete waste of my time.

Anyone come across a question (Uworld or the real thing) that actually required this much math (and required you to memorize the Z values) or can I LOL and move on?

Yikes. I wouldn’t bother. It’s usually interpreting data, not calculating it.

Idk wtf is going on with my NBMEs

15 - 230
20 - 215
21 - 233
UWSA1 - 249
22 - 218 (don't know what happened here)
23 - 232 (today)

Sitting at 73% UWorld with 1k questions left. Test in 3 weeks. Reddit predictor says 246 somehow, but it feels like almost no weight is given to new NBMEs in the calculation. In a perfect world I'd get 250 but would be happy in the 240s. Just don't really know where I stand

Just finished too. How’d you feel about it bro?

Honestly felt like the vast majority were straightforward. A few WTF questions but otherwise not bad.

I feel the same way which makes me nervous since I usually do best when I feel awful afterwards. Definitely some WTF questions and I probably marked 10ish per block pretty liberally but overall I felt it was pretty straightforward thanks to Zanki and UWorld. Definitely very UWorld-like. If the current trend keeps up, we could get our scores as soon as June 24 since that’s two Wednesdays from now.

Yall think I could do First Aid Rapid Review anki deck in a week?

Yes.

Those could all be the 80 experimental questions!

Yes.

Haha anytime I didn’t know a question I just told myself it was experimental and guessed and moved on. Definitely had a couple brain farts on stuff I knew I had seen before and just forgot but hopefully most of my missed questions were experimental.

thats the perfect way to do it man. don't waste time on things you know you aren't going to figure out then let it stress you out for rest of questions, good stuff

I did it y'all its over! All of zanki in 9.5 months. Very excited to have an extra hour or two a day to do practice questions

Got a 221 on NBME 19 with 171/200 (85.5%). That curve is crazy!

Anyway, it was a pretty decent test (full-on pulmonary physiology tho) and it didn't have many wtf questions.

5 weeks left till gameday.
Dude thats the most Fd up curve ive ever seen. My jaw dropped when i read this lmao 85% is dope though noicee work!

Group thoughts on if I should do another Comlex practice exam before my test (July 2nd)? I took comsae 105 and got a 481, took combank and got a 602-622 (the range they gave me) both of those with zero omm studied. I am a little curious to see how I would do after actually reviewing omm, but also don't want to waste what could potentially have been another NBME.

My school gave me another combank one for free, I would have to buy a comsae

I got 80 points higher on my comlex 1 than 105, which was taken 4 weeks out. I never took combank assessments. I personally wouldn’t waste my time with another comsae if you don’t have to for your school.

I wouldn't do anything else. Obviously I did the same stuff as you for school lol, and the only other COMLEX specific stuff I plan on doing is going through combank for like the 2-3 days after my Step. I think you're 100% going to pass and likely going to be over 500, so considering you're not gunning for ortho or a specialty where COMLEX actually matters, I would say don't sweat it.

Also can someone tell me what the organism is on Question 25 block 3. I feel like its super obvious and for some reason I cant figure it out
Not sure if it’s the New Mexico one ur referring to but it may be yersinia pestis or Francisella. Either way both are treated by streptomycin

Oh btw FYI for everyone who hasn’t done free 120: I did the anatomy deck after taking free 120 and realized it covered some of the questions. Def not obvious stuff so read everything each card says.

mine is 221-241. I have played around with the numbers and doesn't seem to change much tbh. my high end goes up, but my low end stays the same

I was feeling pretty good yesterday but I'm a little more anxious this morning (probably the adrenaline and wine wearing off). I swore I wouldn’t do this but I’m remembering questions that were absolutely verbatim from Zanki that I had a total brain fart on and missed despite seeing that info 100 times. I feel like I’ve failed my lord and savior now.
