USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

Are USWA 2, NBME 18 and 19 still the most predictive? I take Step 1 Friday and did UWSA 2 yesterday and 19 this morning

I still think there is value in doing 18 as people have said the question style on 18, UWSA2 and Free 120 is most similar to the real deal. It might not have as much predictive value score-wise anymore as the curve has become harsher but I feel like those 3 are still the ones you want to finish out dedicated with.

My favorite UWorld experience is when I get an ethics questions where 2 answers appear to be correct, go with one, and then it's wrong and the explanation for the one I picked begins with "although this statement is correct....". Ughhhhh.
My fav uworld question is the one that tells you at which age children should understand the permanence of death

all my scores are going down, the only consistent part is I'm either 1% to 10% above average. This is NOT how I expected dedicated to be going lol.

Dedicated feels like trying to hold on to a big pile of sand as tiny grains slip through my fingers

If this covid crap wasn't going on rn Id probably try to move my exam up 1 week but there's no dates. keep treading water!

I'm 12 days out now and I would love to be able to move my exam up. I'm so ready to get this thing over with, it's basically consumed my life for nearly 2 years and I'm ready to move on. These past week has been a drag and I'm not looking forward to another 2ish weeks of this.

I have this paralyzing fear that I'm going to open my score report and it's going to say 225 lol. Even though I told myself I'd be happy in 220s.

There was a user several years back who was disappointed with a 240 when he/she had practice tests in the 260's. We may think it's ridiculous being disappointed with a 240, but I believe if you had a real potential for a 260+ you're justified in your disappointment. Likewise, since your practice scores have 240 potential, you wouldn't be wrong in being disappointed with a 225. As we improve during dedicated, it's ok to adjust your goals accordingly. Personally, I would feel like I underperformed if I scored <235, and would be really disappointed if I scored between 220-230, even though a score there would be fine for primary care.

I think you hit the nail on the head, as I've progressed through dedicated I guess it's shifted how I view my performance. I'll still be happy as long as I hit 230 I think.

So we have to bring our CIN to USMLE

Is there anything that needs to be printed for the COMLEX? I can't find any info but NBOME is a mess.

Yeah as everyone else said with the scores youve been getting id be very surprised if you got under a 240. If i were you id be very disappointed in a 220s or even low 230s score. You deserve at least 240s/50s

Just took nbme 17 as a baseline exactly before starting dedicated and 7 weeks out from my step date.

Got a 213 (430)

I know it underpredicts but I was hoping for over 220 since my goal is >240. Don't know how to feel...

The plan for dedicated is to do the new NBMEs (+18) & UWSAs as far as self assesments are concerned, and do the second pass of Uw alongside Kaplan qbank for new and additional questions. Does it sound good?

Maybe it's because I am at a DO school but when I registered NBME sent me a form with a CIN number, giving me permission to register, that I need to print and take there on exam day. It has a CIN number that I will need to enter, according to first aid.

Are you talking about your testing permit? You have to bring that for USMLE but I don’t believe you need anything besides an ID for COMLEX.

I know it sounds weird but a 213 on your very first NBME with 7 weeks of dedicated ahead of you is a good spot to start at. I know many people who started in the 180s and ended up in the 240s.

I'm an IMG and my scheduling permit has a CIN number that I need to "bring with" too.

Dude you are in a great spot to break 240. A 213 pre-dedicated is actually very good. You're on track! You have plenty of time yet

Eh, I might be slightly disappointed but considering the programs I'm interested in, I think I'd be okay with 230s. Considering the score predictor has me at 243 +/- 6. At this point I'm just feeling the burn out, I keep pushing off starting my content review because I'm just so exhausted and sick of sitting at my desk at the end of the day.

You got it. I'm spending my first weekday morning in almost 2 years just drinking coffee and chilling. The feeling of being done is enough to make up for the grind of dedicated

FInished UWorld last week with a 76.5, averaging 79 for the last 40 blocks. Really hope this can translate on the real deal and I'm just not great at taking the new NBME exams. For my last week, I was thinking of doing 2 blocks of Amboss (new questions) and 1 block of UW incorrects each day, but do y'all think I should reverse it and do 2 blocks of incorrects and 1 block of Amboss instead?

Hit 79th percentile on UWorld today, lets gooooo.

I think new questions > old questions, so I would stick with the 2:1 ratio of Amboss to UWorld personally.

Not to always have bad news, but in a massive Uworld slide. Was averaging 75% a block, then took a 2 week break to move/finish up the semester and I've slipped to 60-65%. hoping its just because of the break I took but damn is it discouraging after using similar study methods but seeing others perform much better than me. Oh well, hopefully it turns around.

What is your overall average at?

Some of these tiny details we gotta know are killing me (the histology difference between Janeway lesions and Osler nodes, cmon dog)

I'm at a high 67 right now. I basically have always been a high 65 to low 66% average, and then started really hitting an upward trend a few weeks ago. I'm mildly concerned that my performance has basically always been a straight line. Sometimes I do really well, but then Ill do poorly and bring it back down a few blocks later.

That's a pretty good place to be at since it's still above average. I think most of us are having a similar experience with UWorld with oscillating performance, it's frustrating for sure.

80% correct on NBME 18, 224. Higher percent correct than any of my previous NBMEs yet a lower score. They weren't kidding when they said the curve is brutal. Changed my CI on the score predictor from 241-248 to 232-250.
Probably because the predictor is giving 18 a lot of weight since it used to be a good predictor. I highly doubt it is at this point tbh, 80% for a 224? No way.

Yeah I figured that was the case. I thought the questions were pretty fair but I agree that there's no way an 80% on the real thing is low/mid 220s. I'm taking UWSA2 and Free 120 on Sunday so I'm hoping that'll be more representative of where I'm really at.

238 on NBME 24!!! pretty happy with it. Some of the questions were WTF for sure..first two blocks I was rockin then came the last two blocks which were insane. Some of the questions on the last two blocks were completely out of left field-like even if you had all your resources out and google open I don't think you could find the answer unless you googled the answer key straight up. Not sure how some people who pop 250s on the new NBMEs know the answers to those like what? lol
