USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Longtime lurker here. Anyone here have advice on whether I should move up my exam? Goal is 250+. Currently scheduled for first week of August about a week before I start rotations. I started dedicated in April but then covid happened and was able to start some virtual clerkship stuff and have been in dedicated part 2 for about 2 weeks. In April I took UWSA1 - 266, NBME 20 - 244, and NBME 21 - 245 (in order, all about a week apart). Just took NBME 23 last week (first exam of dedicated round 2) and scored 250. Will be done first pass of UWorld this week; am currently at 81%. Predictor has me at ~257.

I am so worried about more covid-related cancellations and having to quarantine before starting clerkships (currently planning to take step in a different state than my school) that I feel like I should move it up and get it over with asap, but I don't want to do it without being ready for the exam and end up kicking myself for not being 100% ready. Also worried about giving up the spot I have now. Thinking maybe I should reschedule to about 2-3 weeks from now instead of my current ~4. Advice? Honestly all the stress about this is making it harder to study properly lol.

Also has anyone heard anything more about the event-based testing USMLE was talking about? First date is supposed to be July 30th but haven't heard much about it, unless I missed something.
100% move it up man. Youre far above your goal. Youd literally get a 255 tmrw

All right y'all, with a new batch of Step scores dropping tomorrow and the first batch of COMLEX scores dropping in the next few days, I'll likely be starting the Step 2 thread by Monday at the latest. I have stupid second year stuff my school is forcing us to make up through the end of this week and once that's over I'll be compiling all of my Step 2/third year resources. We can all continue commiserate and/or celebrate Step/Level 1 scores here.

In your shoes I would move it up to maybe 2 weeks. Sounds like you’re at your goal.

Thanks guys, I think I'll start looking for new dates (edit: current test center is booked through October.. guess we're traveling elsewhere). Think I just need a confidence boost, part of me is still just not trusting my practice scores

Keep checking. Sometimes people back out close to their date if they don’t feel ready.

Classic lmao

Insomnia sucks. Nearly 8 AM and I can’t sleep, so I guess I’m staying up to get my score at 11 AM and then I‘ll go to bed. NBME better be on time with that email because I need my rest!

One last time for posterity...
Goals:
Step >235
Comlex >401 (lolz)

And heck, I felt pretty good leaving step. Whatever my score will be, I really do feel like I did my absolute best - I was in the zone, I was focused, and I carefully did an entire second pass and didn’t find any stupid mistakes that I’m aware of. I just straight up missed things I hadn’t studied and didn’t know. I don’t think I could have done better with the knowledge I had at that moment, so whatever my score is, I did my best and that’s gonna be good enough!

Can you post your practice scores/real deal when you get it?? Or even a brief write up? Im pumped for you I bet you did really well! I feel the same way as well and think that it can ease nerves when you know you gave it your absolute all which is the best we can do

You bet! You guys will know as soon as I do - that’ll be the last thing I do before going to sleep.

whoof one week away from step. Feel gross. Seem to discover more and more weak spots everyday. So excited to be done though, for better or worse. Hopefully I can at least pass step

I bet you’re going to do a lot better than just pass. That last week is the worst for anxiety. You’re almost free!

Surprisingly I was able to sleep but I did have a dream that I got my score lol. These next 2.5 hours are gonna be the longest ever though. Kinda wanna vomit on the one hand, on the other feel pretty calm.

I wish I had the nauseous reaction to stress; it just makes me want to eat instead. So, that’s what I’m doing right now. Probably going to eat three days’ worth of calories between now and 11.

So I’m having heart palpitations and my hands are still shaking. Holy crap.

For those of you wondering how the day goes, I got the email that my scores would be ready at 11:00 at 10:59. I was actually already logged in so I just had to refresh.

It’s the same place you look up your permit - click on details underneath where your permit was, and it pulls up another screen with a score column in the right hand side, so you can refresh right at 11:00 instead of reading through email instructions if you are already logged in.

Okay, the nitty gritty...

NBME 13: 207 (4/3) - before dedicated
NBME 15: 230 (5/16)
NBME 22: 231 (5/30)
UWSA1: 254 (6/6)
NBME 24: 236 (6/13)
NBME 23: 235 (6/16)
UWSA2: 249 (6/20)
UW%: 65% (1200 questions left; didn’t finish)
Predicted: 245.25 (95% CI: 234.81 - 255.68)

And 247 for the actual. My date adjusted was 248 so I fell squarely between the average and date adjusted score.

I don’t actually think a write up would be useful - I got lucky as hell. I hadn’t finished any of my resources but I’m a good test taker and it saved my butt. Plus the test played to my strengths, so there’s that.

I'm so happy for you!!! So glad you took it and didn't postpone.

Guys. I'm honestly in shock. My prediction was 245 +/-5, UWSA2 was 247. I never expected this. I keep thinking it's a joke. I'm attaching my score predictor if anyone is curious.

It's been wild being on this journey with you guys. THANK YOU all so much for the moral support.

Congrats! How many do you remember getting wrong on test day?

A bunch. I can't remember an actual count but I kept remembering the stupidest mistakes that I made. Initially walking out of my test I felt decent but a few hours later I started to feel terrible and remembering things I missed.

lol at doing about 10% worse on my uworld blocks but so is everyone else so average wise I’m doing the same? Can’t take these mind games much longer

also does anyone know what a 76% on NBME 24 correlates to?

around 227-228 I think. I scored 233 with 78,5% correct

Hmm intersting. I know its a copout to say but thats around what my score would have been If I knew how to read. there was a decent amount of incorrects where I missed a single work or two and got the question wrong because of that. Obviously the score I actually got matters the most but I really think that this is where half of my barrier to higher scores is coming from.

How many oddball questions did you have on your exam?

The realization that I can be anything I want now is kind of insane and overwhelming. Like, still wanna do IM lol but.....the possibilities are endless.

It’s a good feeling. I still have my score report pulled up on my computer and I look at it every now and then in disbelief.

Think I’m going to pull the plug on zanki. There just isn’t enough time in the day for targeted review and 2000 reviews. Hopefully it doesn’t bite me in the ass, but I feel like I’m not going to see the results I want unless I try something new. Exam is the 16th so hopefully I do t forget everything between now and then. Feels pretty scary I figure it has a better chance to help them hurt.

I did and I don't regret it one bit. Only kept up with the most recent cards. Totally worthless to do those biochem cards that I've been doing since the first week of m1.
