USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did and I don't regret it one bit. Only kept up with the most recent cards. Totally worthless to do those biochem cards that I've been doing since the first week of m1.
Yeah I’m split on those. Feel like I retain none of it and would do much better just to try and find high yield parts in FA. I’ll probs still do about 1000 a day, but that’ll be mostly pharmacy microC and pathoma 1-3

Did you have strange questions on your exam. I felt like some of mine were so random and just out of left field.
Definitely. There were a good bunch that I thought seemed super random or were something I had never seen before, so I just assumed they were experimental and moved on. I didn't let myself freak out at all throughout the exam and I think that state of mind really helped me.

Wanted to get more done tonight but I am just BEAT. Taking NBME 18 tmr. was able to do some review on weak spots from NBME 24 but not as much as I would have liked. My main goal is to decrease my amount of mistakes from misreading questions from 15 to less than 5. Then hardcore review before UWSA2 on Sunday. Praying for a 220+

Congrats to @calivianya and @fldoctorgirl for absolutely destroying Step 1! Yall earned it. Should i assume yall will be hanging in the Derm forums now? lmaooo

That just made me LOL. I slept for like seven straight hours just now and coming back to everyone’s nice comments is giving me the warm fuzzies. I just also wanted to not rule out anything... but yeah, derm’s a hard pass. Too much interaction with awake people. My top three are IM -> pulm/crit, anesthesia, and rads so far. We’ll see what I like on rotations!

How many oddball questions did you have on your exam?

There were at least a few, but I didn’t keep up with it tbh. I don’t mark questions so I literally have no idea how many I thought were troublesome.

I hate to crash the post Step score celebration but per the NBOME the first batch of COMLEX scores comes out "sometime tomorrow". Today was the first date listed but it sounds like no one got their scores today (lol of course). My score release range is from tomorrow to Monday so I'm kind of hoping to get mine tomorrow to close the book on Step/Level 1 mania for good but not expecting it since the early May-early June people will likely get theirs first. I just really don't want to wait until Monday to end this madness!

I was wondering if anyone got scores today. I'm in your same boat. I won't be holding my breath, but would love to be able to report my 420 to the squad ASAP. Hate waiting

I think I might be one-upping you with my 410. As long as I pass, I really dgaf what the score is at this point. I felt so much better about Step than I do about COMLEX.

Took Step in mid June and got my score back last week. Scored 245. It was a wild ride! Was hoping to crack 250 but anything above 240 was okay with me considering these crazy times. The only thing I can say with absolute certainty is that the NBMEs are TRASH! Good for learning but nothing more.

Excel score predictor: 242
Real thing: 230

I'm a little bummed, but I'm shooting for anesthesiology, so I think I'll be alright. So glad the wait is over.
You should be golden for anesthesia! Sorry for the underprediction thats disappointing but at least you can still do what you want to do. Was 230 still within your 95% CI?

Nah, I’m gonna whip both of your butts with my 401. If it’s even possible to get a 401, idk. Comlex was also the harder test for me by far.

I’m right there with you with the date hopes. Really hoping for tomorrow for comlex. How epic would it be to get both of them within a two day period?

Psh with your killer Step score there's no way you just barely passed COMLEX! I bet you have a killer score on that one too and I think I have the 400 club covered 😀

That would be epic

Reviewing NBME 18 and I literally changed 5 marked q's from correct to incorrect because I overthought them. Don't know how to fix that tho...

I had the same problem. The way I fixed it was to literally never change an answer choice when going back unless I could 100% prove that the first answer choice I put was because of some egregious error of thinking or misunderstanding the question.

That's what I'm gonna do on the next assesment I take. Thanks!

Are we supposed to expect an email when our COMLEX scores are released? Or do I go to the website and check it myself?

That's improvement, I think! How do you feel about it?
IDK how to feel. It was weird being rushed for time, but I think that was partially from not eating breakfast.

I think I was def able to focus more on thinking through some problems and in the first block at least it showed. There were a few where I did not know the answer but was able to make a logical guess and I ended up being right.

I think I have finally done enough practice exams where I can see where the recurrent topics are. I feel a little more confident now. I at least feel confident that I don't need to cancel step anymore lol

Overall I'm disappointed with how the whole STEP 1/dedicated thing has gone in general, but in a week i'll be done and it can **** off lol.

Confession: I have literally no idea how to interpret a comlex score. I better figure out before tomorrow if that’s when scores are dropping so I can know if I did well or not.

Edit: Oooh, I found a cool pic representation if anyone else is completely lost.

For anyone wondering, an 80% on NBME 18 is a 225. Curve is wild lol

burnout before step is wild too. Totally exhausted today. Hoping to get through chapter 1 of pathoma but that’s it. Whoof
Take an hour to exercise and shower and get back to it. Really helps me. Even just walking. You can even listen to Goljan if you're feeling it

Does anyone know why arginase deficiency doesn't cause hyperammonemia but OTC deficiency does? I understand why OTC deficiency would but why wouldn't arginase deficiency if its still blocking the urea cycle pathway just further down?

Hey guys, long time lurker, few time poster. Got my scores yesterday and today so thought I'd post my practice and real scores.

COMSAE 103b (4 weeks from COMLEX): 652
(see below for other NBMEs before COMLEX)
COMLEX 6/6: 644
--------
NBME 17: 205 (4/26, 8.5 weeks)
NBME 19: 217 (5/17, 5.5 weeks)
UWorld First Pass: 57%, 34th percentile (5/19, 5 weeks); used gradually along with school work since January
NBME 22: 221 (5/25, 4.5 weeks)
UWSA1: 245 (6/8, 2.5 weeks)
NBME 18: 239 (6/14, 1.5 weeks)
UWSA 2: 245 (6/21, 4 days)
Free 120: 90% (6/21, 4 days)
UWorld Second pass: 86%, 95th percentile
Amboss: 68%

Predictor: 249 (CI range 235-262)
Step 6/25: 246

Overall, very happy!

Also, I'm proof that this is possible with 1) never touching Anki (not my vibe, couldn't get into it) 2) have a meh MCAT (505)

Nice scores! ~650 and 245+ is badass

Yes. There's evidence to suggest that arginosuccinate and arginine can be excreted themselves by the body, thus eliminating the ammonia from the body.

I was originally scheduled 6/6 but it got cancelled so through Prometric I rescheduled COMLEX on 6/26 instead.

On NBOME I still have a 6/6 permit that says cancelled. Is this usual?

Another thing that shows up in cases of arginosuccinate and argininase deficiency, the treatment is often continual supplementation of arginine to ensure that the cycle can still continue despite those defects
Oh wow so youd give arginine continually? I was reading in UWorld that you do low protein diet devoid of arginine
