Official 7/27 Exam Thread!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm an international student here, and it doesn't make any financial sense for me to apply here even though I'd love to. Can't get a loan, can't get anyone to cosign. And I plan to work there nevertheless so the contractual obligation is no big deal for me. My home country is just next door so it works out. And I don't know if I want to finish my AMCAS haha. It's too much trouble just trying to classify and fill out courses.

U're from m'sia? If so, you could also consider the jhu and a malaysian university program i think

Woah lulu that is awesome... what do you think went so well for you!?

CONGRATS YOU ARE DONE

Hey lakeview227,

The month before the exam I did not take any more practice exams. I focused on honing in on problem areas as well as constantly reviewing basic principles and logically solving problems- be it textbook or real life situations. I also reset my intentions and went back to doing lots of yoga, running, and martial arts. In all for the MCAT I probably studied that one month and everything before that was just stressful and unproductive.

Then test day I packed a bunch of snacks and I made sure I didn't sleep too much or I would have too much energy to spend.

Hope that helps! I'm going to apply this year and if it doesn't happen for me I will retake and re-apply next year.

DukeNUS has a large population of students from US and Canada. Some reasons were due to the school being too crowded, too many M2s doing rotations in a single hospital (rotations are held at SGH right across from the school), agenda not organized. If you are from a Western country, the locals may show some discrimination towards you (resurrecting the longtime debate of why pick an international applicant over the many fine local premeds of Singapore), etc..etc..One of the M2 I talked to did his undergrad at Stanford and performed research there for two years. He applied to only the ivy leagues and was waitlisted so he decided to attend Singapore instead since his family is there. Bottom line, they told me to stay in the US since I am in the US anyway. From my own experience of staying in Singapore for two months this summer, I can say that from growing up in a small suburb in the South, I did not enjoy the city life very much. Riding the MRT everyday (99% crowded) and the food can be really expensive. Really humid all the time. Too crowded to ride a car so most of the time was spent on the MRT or walking. I lost 10 lbs T_T (a good thing haha).. Not to mention the living cost.. Apart from the city, I did enjoy my elective there. My coordinator was very nice and gave me a lot of opportunities to follow the HOs around and observe. Attended a few tutorials hosted by the DukeNUS professors and they were pretty interesting. Overall, I am glad I did an elective there 🙂
