Official 7/27 Exam Thread!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Why are you guys so neurotic about the score? You can't change what you got so there is absolutely no point in worrying about it.

You make a good point. No benefit comes from dwelling/stressing over the outcome. I guess it's just a 'normal' post MCAT feeling. Months of studying coming down to about a 5 hour exam and you just hope for the best. For me personally, it's more the thought of potentially having to re-take that would suck the most.

And to answer your question about sending in the AMCAS application. I had my primary submitted mid June.

4th time taking exam here and in my 3rd AMCAS cycle. Previously I had a 25, 27, 28 (and actually got waitlisted to schools with these scores!), and then finally decided to take a Kaplan Course. Average Kaplan and AAMC exams were 32-33 so I'm hoping for at least a 32. PS was alright I guess, VR was a crapshoot (as always), BS was tough and the orgo really made me think. Went home and looked up a discrete question and found out I missed it, and that got me worried about more questions. I hope we all ended up doing great! :luck::xf:

Never thought of ME being neurotic, but you pointed out that fact and yes...I have been a nutcase these few weeks. I need vacation, like now

almost a week till scores everybody.

I was trying to make a prediction on my score, and all I can remember is how either way it could go. Pretty sure my BS score is gonna rest on how well I thought through the Organic portions. Because I really didn't study all that.

All I can remember is feeling rushed during the second half of PS and writing terrible essays. Going to be pretty stressed for the next week now that the scores are approaching. When I was taking the BS part of the test, I remember thinking this wasn't considerably more Ochem that normal, it was just all clustered together rather than spread out through the section? Maybe thats just me being optomistic because I really dont understand ochem well at all. Hoping for the atleast a 24 (8-8-8)... no clue.

I'd never taken a practice exam with that much high level ochem. Part of it was bad luck because it was my least favorite parts of ochem!

It can go either way for me, depends on if I did my business on VR. I'm gonna keep my hope low, and hope for a 27-28.

PS: 9
VR: 8-9
BS: 9-10

There's a storm coming, Mr. Premed. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when scores release, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could score so high and leave so little for the average test-takers.

Dude I can't even make a prediction, the other night I had a dream where I got 18s across the board, I guess AAMC felt sorry for me and decided to give out some extra credit LOL if only that were the case 😛

I'm going to do a prediction too:

PS: hope for at least an 8
VR: at least 7
WS: Nah, better than M? Lol!
BS: hoping for at least a 10 here...but it could go as low as 8
Composite: wow the minimum I could hope for is a 23...that's less than my first official Kaplan (not finishing content review)

:xf: for no retake!!

My prediction:

PS: 8
VR: 9 at the most...
BS: gahhh 8

25? Thats lower than what I am retaking this stupid test for :boom:

Haha everyone seems to be low balling their scores. I am sure that everybody did fine.

Yeah, I bet the curve will be generous! My predictions:
PS: 12
Verbal: 8
WS: Don't care. N would work.
BS: 12

32 is a hopeful score... I am an optimist. One week everyone!

Good luck everyone!

Hey 7/27ers,

This is my first post on SDN. I am a long time lurker but I wanted to post because I feel close to all of you guys and am secretly rooting for all of you lol.

Anyways, I also took the 7/27 MCAT and did NOT think it was easy. It wasn't as bad as I expected due to the fact that people were telling me it was so much harder than the practice AAMCs. I was expecting to see an exam written in russian. I think PS was my best section, there were a few questions I knew I got wrong as soon as I was done during the break, but for the most part I felt I nailed at least a couple. With that being said, I am predicting a harsh PS curve. I have no idea how VR will turn out, it was such a caffeinated rushed blur. The passages seemed easy but the questions were difficult. I remember narrowing a lot of questions down to two choices and then not being able to decide which was better. I never know how I did in VR until I see my score afterwards, I just hope we don't get results like the 7/6ers (that was some scary ****). BS was the hardest section for me. The orgo threw me off and I couldn't for sure get the answer on a few of them. I even had one question where I switched between A,B,C and D. It was ridiculous. The orgo seemed like it would never stop but once it did the actual biology wasn't too bad, except for a few discretes that left me stumped. It seems like we dodged the "hard experimental" BS sections people have been complaining about but instead got railed with super tough organic chemistry.

I have no idea how I did...I was averaging 31-32 on the last AAMCs but this one could go either way. I am also mentally and physically preparing myself for a re-take. Gonna buy TBR for gen chem and physics, EK101 for verbal and Kaplan for bio and organic, maybe with some nova physics sprinkled in there. Best of luck to everyone...

haha clever...Man the next seven days are gonna be rough. I feel like they make they make us wait 30 days just so they can torture us even more lol.

Continuing with the Batman theme...wasn't that Bane's reason for not exploding the bomb immediately? sigh. evil.

that's oddly specific. School starts the next day for me. Regardless of my score, i'm eating a whole pizza on the 28th.

I have been following this thread for a while but since the 28 is approaching I decided to join it and make my prediction.
PS: 8
VR: 7, I can never accurately predict my verbal scores
BS: 8 I usually get above 10 for practice exams.

To all those who are predicting low scores, did you have low practice exam averages?

No, I was averaging mid 30s. With that said, I feel decent about the PS section just a little concerned with how the scale will pan out since there were some easy questions, but of course a few that made you scratch your head and take your best guess. Verbal is what I'm having the hardest time predicting, on practice exams my lowest score was a 9, consistently getting 10s with an 11 or two. But, on the real thing it felt so foreign. There were definitely those passages that were a breeze, one that was like wth are you trying to tell me, and then came a bit of a time crunch/feeling anxious because of narrowing down to two answer choices and having to play a bit of a guessing game. But, I think that just comes with this test. It tests how calm are you in a stressful situation and I just worry that I let my nerves hinder my full potential. The BS section is what I'm least worried about, felt pretty calm, cool and collected by that portion of the exam and think I performed well.

I hadn't gotten lower than a 9 on any AAMC sections minus a 7 on the first one i took. I only got to 31 as my high though. The exam was a bit of a bad draw for what I know, but I'm hoping i still did alright. I think I did my best for what I got. So I'll be content with whatever score I get. If i need to retake, I'll do it.

Well I've been snooping the website for almost two years and from what I have seen people usually perform around their averages regardless of how they felt about the exam. Of course there are a few outliers, but don't be too discouraged and lose sleep over it. We all probably did fine.

I felt super confident going into the test because I knew that nerves would screw me over, so I was thinking positive the whole time, even after the exam was over, I hope it helped me get a good score because I could think clearly. I'm still pretty optimistic but i'm also scared 😳 hope all this positivity doesn't lead to major disappointment :/

I don't feel like my averages would be helpful since i had a clear upward motion in my scores. I started out preeetty low

I had my primary submitted mid June.

I was finally able to submit today. I know earlier is always better, it's making me so nervous I couldn't get it in earlier. BUT before all the negative nancy SDN lurkers jump to tell me how bad I am and late my app is, I have some great extracurriculars, a stellar PS and work FT as well. They take that into account. Right? RIGHT?! 😱 I may be trying to convince myself.

5 days and 18 hours, guys. See you back here then!

+1. This is why I cant take my practice test averages seriously because during my prep I was taking one a week while still finishing content review. Naturally, my first couple of tests were sort of low (26-29). My last 5 however were all above a 30 with a high of 32 twice. That being said I echo other people's thoughts on this thread and just felt this test was "different" from the practices.

I think you're going to be fine. I submitted in early June (TMDSAS) but no schools have taken my app seriously without an MCAT score so its almost as if I didnt apply til late aug. I also have pretty decent EC's (ER Tech at a major hospital for 2 years about 2500 hours) and alternated between full and part time work during undergrad so I certainly do hope they take that into consideration. I've heard it can only help us. My PS is alright, I'm sure yours is much better written, I kind of rushed mine 😳 hehe

Definitely feelin' the pressure though, If I didnt do work on the MCAT then this application cycle is ruined. I took a bit of a gamble...

you at UTSA?

That's true, you definitely can't correlate feelings after the exam with your score. It certainly is encouraging to see many others hit their averages after a month long of waiting and feeling like they got hit by a truck after the exam. Thanks for your wise words and optimism, let's hope we continue the trend of SDNers that hit their target 🙂.

and going with that optimism here is a more optimistic prediction. PS 10-11 VR 9-10 BS-12 31-33. Here's to Hoping!

I will continue with the optimism. My predictions are:
P-12
V-10
B-13
W-Who cares.

Practice exam averages were as follows:
AAMC- 34ish (range: 30-36)
Kaplan- 37ish (range: 33-41)

If I get lower than my prediction I won't mind so much as long as its above 32.

Wow, sounds like you guys had it worse than we did (8/4 MCAT). Ours had a truly insane bio section. But even on our thread, and year's past, I've never seen people low ball their scores like you all have. But I'm rooting for all of you. I'm keeping an eye on your release date to see if maybe they'll release early this year as I await my 9/5 scores.

Anyway, I bet since you're all railing against the test that the curve should be rather forgiving. Hang in there! GL

I'm definitely nervous about the upcoming score release. I almost don't even want to check. It's like, what if I did really bad? But then I remember that I didn't feel like the test was overwhelmingly hard in any subject. Verbal was normal (predict >8), PS felt good (predict >10), BS is concerning because I know I missed some of those discretes. I felt good about 95% of the organic chem on it so I'm not sure (predict 10 or higher). Seeking 30 or above overall. Don't really care how it adds up. Here's to hoping!
