Hey guys and gals,

I'm heading to Columbia this August. Who is else is joining me on this forum?

What are some things on your minds that you would like an answer to? Just post everything here, and hopefully we can all help each other out.

Is any one else excited about the week long orientation? I heard we're going to get to tour a lot of cool things. Does anyone of the details as to what we are going to do?

There's already an Official Columbia c/o 2011 thread. Like shamrock84 said, join the facebook group, I think most questions will get answered there.

Yes, I have 2 questions for now:

1. What are we going to tour in the Manhattan area for 1 week during orientation?
2. Have you heard estimates as to how many hours of homework the dental students get each year? I heard 2nd year is so hard, no one ever goes out even once a week. I heard 4th year is the best, and basically has no homework.

thanks

1. during the day, it will mostly be lectures and information sesssions. at night, a bunch of things have been planned out. There will be a Mets game (Yankees are away that week..sorry!), a harbor cruise w/ the med class (with massive amounts of booze provided on board), dinner at Little Italy (w/ unlimited wine), shopping trips, BBQ, Central Park, etc. You'll get more information concerning orientation in the summer.

2. hours? hmm....too many to count! Depends on your studying habits too. Some people can cram everything and do fine, while there are gunners who study every single night from 7PM till 1AM. But yes, 2nd year is by far the hardest, and people definitely dont go out as much (1st year is fun during weekends, so take advantage!). 3rd year is the easiest and 4th year is actually ranked up there with 2nd year due to the stress of completing clinical requirements, taking the boards, NERBs, WREBs, applying to residency, etc.

I can't wait for orientation. It sounds like it's the best one in the country. Oh well, the Mets are a much better team than the Yankees this year. I'm still happy about it.

It's going to an amazing 4 years. I can't wait until August 20.
