I live in Long Island..
2 hours away from school..
I guess people living out of NY will get it by end of this week..

good luck to you 🙂

good lord,,,,,,
I live in Montreal
Because it is only 1.5hr flight to NYC,
I thought I would be able to get the letter today or tomorrow.
Knowing that Jayeon, NY resident received it today (congrats!),
I guess it would take awhile...........
Can't concentrate on my work.............
:scared::scared::scared:
BTW, on predents.com, there is one Cali resident
who got accepted. That was fast....

Are u sure that I can contact the admission office

That would give me some relief in case i dont get anything
by the end of this week.

ok back to studying for finals now..lol

accepted here as well. now where am i going to come up with the monies?

loans, loans, and more loans

so who's definitely attending columbia? i'm about 90% sure at this point..

guyss, im from cali and columbia is my top choice, but i still havent received it. anyone from cali still waiting??

i'm about 98% sure i'm attending...

Accepted yesterday too - I live outside of Philadelphia (for those of you who are still anxiously waiting)...

I still have a lot of thinking to do, but I'm about 75% sure Columbia isn't for me - things can change between now and Jan 15 though!

Congrats to everyone 🙂 🙂

jlee - are you thinking columbia over penn mainly due to cost, or do you have other reasons? if so, i could use the input!

Im with you on this PSU, I am like 95% sure that Columbia is not for me. That is based on their heavy medical school curriculum and their sub-par clinical training.

yeah i definitely feel you on their lack of clinical training. their facilities left much to be desired too... the "dental school" was what, like 4 floors to a medical building? and this is aside from the fact that i think i'd hate living in NYC and having to pay $1200-1500/mo for a small dorm-sized apartment (if i'm wrong about this, please correct me).

and actually, the only thing that is keeping columbia in the running for me is their combined curriculum with the med school - i think this holistic approach to dentistry is interesting, although i'm not sure how much it'll really help us clinically in the "real world". specialty program directors seem to dig it 🙄...

and oh yeah, the H/P/F grading system is a plus too.

i'm picking columbia over penn because of cost (it's about $8,000 more per year x 4 years..which is ~$32,000) and also because the two schools are totally opposite of each other in my mind, not to mention that columbia has the p/f system and the integrated science classes. i'm also most likely going to specialize, so even though columbia may have not as much clinical training as much as penn, i'm thinking that i will get it during my specialization training.

also, about housing: it's actually not too bad living in washington heights in terms of cost. i'm going to school right now in ann arbor and to be honest, i pay about the same in rent (~$650-$700) here compared to some of the prices listed on this columbia housing website: http://www.cumc-housing.columbia.edu/accom.html. and let me tell you, nyc is a lot more exciting than ann arbor lol. what school are you thinking about attending?

like i said, i have a ton of thinking and research to do before jan 15, but as of right now, i'm thinking it's going to come down to maryland, UNC (i'm hoping i get in), and columbia. i met a D4 at columbia during the interview who also was a penn state grad, so i'll be contacting him soon to get his 2 cents.

i had a great experience at both maryland and UNC. i have a friend at maryland who's a D3 and she's been trying to do everything she can to make me seriously consider maryland over penn & columbia... and so far, it's working. UNC was a great interview experience for me and based on everything i've heard, it's reputation is stellar in the dental community... my only reservation is that it's so far away from all my friends and family. both schools had phenomenal facilities and ample research ops in my mind.

although i loved penn, and probably would've gone there in a heartbeat had i gotten the dean's scholarship, it's just too freakin expensive. Based on the estimated budgets we got from each of the schools at the interviews, ALL costs factored in (tuition, fees, estimated living expenses), the difference btw penn & columbia actually comes out to a little over $10,000/year!

Penn state and UPenn are two different schools.. no?

So, I'm at work, and my brother just called me to let me know I got in. Wow, the decisions just keep getting tougher. 😕
