Is there anyone out there in the Drexel Post Bac Evening Program? If you're pelase share your experience.

I just finished my first year in Drexel's EPBPM program. I LOVE this program. The professors are super nice and the coursework and grading is absolutely fair. If you work hard, you can get straight A's in every subject. I currently have a 4.0, and a couple of my classmates do as well. The classes are also very small (mine has seven people), so you get to know the professors pretty well and you can participate easily in labs and such. The advising is good too- again, it's a small program so it's very easy to obtain the help you need. I am hoping to get the linkage to Drexel for next year!
My one caveat is that some of my classmates don't like the program as much as I do. I think a large part of that, however, is that they don't come from the Philadelphia area and don't like it here. They also think the administration is a little "off", but I think that's in large part due to the huge changeover from Hahnemann to Hahnemann-MCP-Allegheny to Drexel. Anyway, I think those are minor complaints. If you can stand being in Philly (I'm from Philly so I don't see what's so bad about it...) and deal with a little red tape, you are in for a rewarding experience at Drexel.

How competitive is admission to the evening program? I ask because I have below a 3.0, and thus had automatically crossed it off my list of programs to apply to a while back. Drexel's web site advertises it as "quite competitive" since they boast of a "limited number of seats," but then they stress their applicants should have an SAT score of only 1000. And since you mention your lab only has 7 people, it seems like there would be open seats. What's your take?

Since you're from philly (i'm from the area as well, actually NJ but same difference) did you look at any of the other programs? (bryn mawr, penn, doing it on your own, etc) What made you choose Drexel? Are you working full time as well? How much time outside of class are you putting into your homework schedule? You "do" find the admin supportive? (I've heard LOTS of bad stuff about the admin). Are classes at drexel or the med campus?
You're going to have to let us know how the MCAT prep is, that is something that I'm def interested in knowing about. I was interested in that b/c that was the only program that offered that. It just stunk you had a pay a semester tuition for that. Do you know anyone who was previously in the program or was this their first offical year? I thought the program was two years old, but I think that I'm mistaken.
I too have an TREMENDOUSLY LOW GPA (below a 2.5 yet above a 2.0)! I am finishing up my MBA with a healthcare track at Rutgers-Camden this year (currently have about a 3.7) while working full time and taking a full-time (plus) course load all the while volunteering at Cooper and my various other misc activities. I'm hoping they will take into consideration that I screwed up in college (which is visible in my steady downfall of my GPA) and see that I have completed my MBA while preparing for medical school! 👍

So pleased to see that people are considering coming to Drexel! I really enjoy the program and am sure you all would, too...
Admissions-wise, I wouldn't worry about it! Since the whole Hahnemann -> MCPHU -> Drexel thing, the evening program seems to have been less publicized and as a consequence, there don't seem to be too many applicants. My class started with about twenty people. That number quickly went down to seven. (Most of the people who dropped out made that decision because they honestly felt they couldn't work and do this, or decided not to become a doctor at all.) It seems, judging by my class, to be very favorable toward people who might not have the highest GPA's but who have demonstrated a considerable committment toward going to medical school and volunteer work. I didn't have a sky-high GPA either when I applied, but Drexel took my whole application into consideration. I really wouldn't stress myself out over admission.
Being from Philly, I did look into the programs at Bryn Mawr, Penn, Villanova, etc. However, I wound up applying only to Drexel. I figured if I were rejected from there I would apply to Bryn Mawr and Penn. My big thing, though, is that my dad graduated from Hahnemann (before it was Drexel University College of Medicine) so I figured that frankly, Drexel was my best chance for admission to medical school and that doing my post-bac there would improve my chances more. (Incidentally, my dad is super angry that I want to go to medical school in the first place and extra annoyed that I'm going to Hahnemann!)
I am working full-time at Comcast doing computer stuff (my undergrad is in compsci and math). The studying depends on the class. I studied about an hour a day for physics (maybe about four on weekends) and about two hours total before a chemistry test (in all fairness, however, I'd previously taken chemistry).
The MCAT prep starts in January (I finish Orgo II and Bio II in December). It's free! Unless I've gone completely crazy and made this up, I'm certain that you don't have to pay tuition for the MCAT prep class. I told you this program was awesome... 🙂

Linkage questions - I know they link to RWJ and Hahnemann, any others they plan on adding? Those two I'm looking to go to ... more RWJ as I get in-state tuition!! Do you know where any of them might have gotten accepted to?
I was a chem major in college, dropped out of orgo II (Withdrew) and changed to business major so I have the chem background just need to study this time 🙂 I think if I can get through the next year working full time and going to school full time I can do ANYTHING! I really wanted to do the program this fall but I have to finish this MBA first (i'm halfway done and can't transfer all my credits anywhere) and I'm planning on doing either drexel part time or finding a place to go full-time. I pretty sure that the MCAT prep is the same as the MSP students: Exam Krackers (best prep in my opinion).
Oh yeah, why the heck is Comcast still expensive even in Philly--I thought it would be cheaper here since they are headquartered out of Philly? Can you lower my bill??? 😉

Drumming, I wish we got the Exam Krackers for free. Actually, our free MCAT class is taught by the second-year MSP students. We get a discount on the Exam Krackers if we want it, though.
ms, it sounds like your MBA will be totally helpful for both your admission to the evening program and to medical school in general with your good GPA in it. As for Bryn Mawr and Penn, they are more time-intensive than the Drexel program. I think Bryn Mawr has a volunteer work requirement.
The linkages are to RWJ, Drexel, and to some DO school in NJ. I've never heard of it, but I'm not really up on DO schools. The classes will probably be on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, though for the summer we are going Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Should be either one of those.
As for the Comcast... hahahaha man I can't even lower my own bill! Actually I get it for free but I get charged for stuff like service calls and HDTV. All of your cable bill goes to the fabulous perks of headquarters such as the great gym, the delicious coffee and free food, and of course, bling computers. 🙂

Hi all:
I called Drexel today about their evening program and they are still accepting applications - until August 20. They told me the classes are held 3 evenings/week usually from 6-8 (the admission counselor I spoke with wasn't sure). I'd like to attend but don't know if I can handle 12 hours on the road per week.

Since it is the EVENING program, what are the normal start and end times for your classes and labs? How are exams scheduled?
Many med schools are now highly recommending biochem, genetics, and other higher level science courses before matriculation. If you are accepted for linkage (and thus have not taken these higher level courses because only bio, chem, ochem, and physics are offered) do you think you would be at a disadvantage in med school? Is there any room in the program to take extra classes?
If all goes well, I'm hoping to work as a nurse during the days (or possibly just on the weekends) and attend the post-bacc in the evenings.

However, most Drexel classes are at the Drexel campus in West Philly, whereas the post-bacc classes are at the Hahnemann campus in Center City. So, you'd have to take the bus or something...
There is actually a girl who works as a nurse at St. Christopher's in Philly doing the evening program with me now. She is doing well, so I suppose she has sufficient study time...

ahh..i want to attend drexels program so badly! i'll be graduating from college next year....what do you think my chances are...with a mediocre gpa...and what if i have taken bio and or chem...am i still eligible for drexel?

what is the difference b/w the IMS and MSP programs? Which is better?

The IMS program is for people with decent MCAT scores but who for whatever reason did not get into medical school/don't quite feel ready to apply to medical school. They take the first-year med school classes, which are simulcast from the Queen Lane Medical Campus to the Center City Hahnemann Campus (where the IMS classes are, along with the MSP and post-bac). The MSP is for people who didn't get a good MCAT score. They take review classes in the basic sciences to try to improve their scores.

I am currently a student at Drexel at the Hahnemann campus. I am completing my undergrad in May and am interested in the evening post bac program. I was an honor student in high school, but my SAT score was only 1010. However, I just received a 4.0 this past semester, but I did not have any science courses. When do you think I should apply to start in the summer or fall? What do you think my chances are at getting into the program? I am currently working as a dental hygienist and my ultimate goal is to enter dental school.
