I haven't seen one for ECU, I know its just the NC in-staters but we need one too!

So I'm kind of excited to see what ECU's new dental school will be like!

How many of you are going to attend the info session event on the 17th?

I am not going, UNC is still having final exams on the 17th... bummer.

But, I think that session is aimed to those not sure if they want to commit to ECU yet... another persuasion to choose their school. I contacted Chris Chappell and he says there will be others in the future if you can't go. I'm going to one of those because i'm sure my parents want to see ECU/greenville and meet the administrators.

I'm planning on going - I finish exams the day before. I'm not sure how many of us are going to be there. It seems like of the approximately 20 who got accepted, at least 3 or 4 are turning it down and not everyone can come so it's going to be a very intimate group. Also, what are you guys wearing and who are you bringing with you? Yay getting into dental school anywhere!

I will be attending the info session for sure, I want to find out a lot more about the program and the school. Its a difficult decision to make to go to a new school, even though I would like to stay instate, when I can go to other great schools that are known and have been around for awhile. And I will be bringing my parents, or at least my mom, dad might have to work.

Glad to see this thread was started. I hope to post here in a few weeks!

RiloKiley: Is your assessment based on what you read on SDN, or people you have talked with?

Does anyone know for sure that you'll attend next year? - Is ECU your #1 choice?

Right now it's my only acceptance, but if I get into UNC it's going to be a difficult decision. Before the cycle started I figured I would accept UNC over ECU if I was fortunate enough to get into both. But after interviewing at ECU, I (and I would venture to many others) was much more impressed with ECU than I originally anticipated. There are a lot of pros for ECU, so I'll be sending in my acceptance offer. If I get into UNC, I'm still not sure which one to choose, but right now I would honestly say UNC would tip the scales.

Hey yall! I look forward to meeting all of you! Congats to everyone. Question though..is anyone having a UNC/ECU dilemma like I am right now? ECU has my heart but everyone else in my life is gung-ho UNC ugh..its so hard.

go where YOU want to go. dont worry about anyone else.

if you're set on ECU, then go there.

There's another event on Feb 10th, "Your Profession Starts Here." For those who went to the one in December, is it helpful/informational? I'm not sure if its the right event for me because I'm not hesitant about going to ECU SoDM.

I thought it was a well planned and informative event. The faculty go more in depth about the curriculum and technologies used and it reinforced my interests in the school. It's not absolutely necessary to go, but it was nice to see all the faculty and the other students again.

I would go, It was a great session and i learned a lot about the school, and the faculty is pretty incredible during the event.

I wonder if this means the next round of accceptances are around the corner? Some ppl weren't expecting to hear anything until mid Feb!

Well apparently UNC is supposed to meet this WED to decide... 😕 so that might be a factor on whether I go or not. I'm beginning to like ECU more and more though!

they are not supposed to meet till next week, its usually around the 1st.

Someone in the UNC thread says that the committee is meeting tomorrow! Last year it was around the 28th. So we'll see...

So the question is, who for sure is going to ECU now since all of the UNC acceptances have been given out?

Unless I am waitlisted at UNC and get off the waitlist in the future, it looks like i'll be a pirate.

Anybody going to ECU worried about the lack of specialized training/rotations?

I would not worry about the lack of specialty training, because they will have endo and perio professors and what not even if they do not have these specialties in the clinic. Or that would be my guess, so I am not 100% sure. But the benefit with not having the specialty programs is that WE will see these cases in the regular clinic because they will not be sent to the residents and specialty professors. There is no way to know for sure since we will be the first year, but I am still very interested in their program.

I need to decide between ecu and Maryland, and it is a difficult decision because maryland is a great school, but I guarantee we will have a good dental experience at ecu unlike any other school.

we should be hearing back from ECU by mid feb.

gluck all!

As JonNCSU08 pointed out, the faculty told us at the info session that since there are not any specialty programs besides pediatric and GPR, it will be us 4th years who will get to handle more complicated cases. It won't be referred out to residents and since we will also be doing rotations at learning centers in rural areas, we will get our fair share of cases that range in complexity.

I will be attending the Feb 10th Special Event as well. Can someone that went to the Dec one post a rough itinerary? i was looking for a little more detail than what has been posted so far.

as for the UNC vs ECU - unc has been my #1 for a few years now (strictly dental school wise, not sports), so if i get a late acceptance i will have to go there. however, i am excited and happy to be attending ECU, and there will be stumbles along the way since we will be the inaugural class, but those will be learning experiences that no one else in the country will be getting either. everywhere you go will have its pros and cons, and i still think that ECU has a very unique experience to offer. specifically referring to the rotations, echoing the statements before, I think there is potential that you will be seeing more specialty cases since we are going to be being trained to operate in remote areas, independent of specialists, we will be expected to be able to handle any and all dental situations. my biggest gripe is greenville vs chapel hill for 4 yrs, bleh!

All of the things people are talking about is getting me excited I hope I hear back from ECU with an acceptance in a few weeks. I think ECU is going to offer an great education and really prepare everyone to be a great dentist out in the real world. Im sure all the hiccups and learning curves will be worth in the end when you look back and see that you were the reason that the dental school is great as the inaugural class.

So UNC doesn't want me...

but I am soo excited for ECU.. I'm going to be such a better dentist than anyone from UNC is going to be 🙂
