Really? I can see how rolling admissions gives applicants with lower stats/less thorough applications a shot at getting in, but I don't see how this is "fair" in any standard sense of the word. Similarly, I don't see how deadline admissions (ie. waiting until an application deadline to review all applications) isn't "fair." What's wrong with schools only wanting to put the effort into interviewing and accepting the best of their applicant pool? It drives up the standard of admissions, yes, but this presumably also gives the best chance of driving up the standard of the field/industry as a whole. The best of the best.
If someone who applies a couple months earlier than someone else who is better qualified, and has a better chance of getting in, I'd be hard-pressed to call that "fair." It's an ambiguous line to draw--who says being early in your admissions makes for a better candidate than achieving higher academic distinction and being more prepared over the course of several years? Personally, I don't.
