I dunno how imp/or useful this is. I saw that other specialties had it. If people cancel do more invites go out? maybe someone on the waitlist can pick up the spot.

Washington DC
Georgetown - drguy22(dec 3)

lol, so you applied here a while back just for the sake of getting an invite somewhere?

welll...yes and no....

i want to go to the interview...but the dates are full and/or dont work. Ill be out of the country Dec 25-mid Jan, so im already in a crunch for time.

I rotated there. Georgetown is a good program. Good two hospital experience. Lots of pathology, wide variety of patients, penetrating trauma that you don't see elsewhere. I'm thinking about ranking it highly.

Just cancelled Res on Dec 2 -- just doesn't fit in my schedule like I had anticipated.

Cancelled U of Michigan, will likely be cancelling UCSF-Fresno if I can't reschedule it...

Cancelled Henry Ford yesterday. Nothing against the program itself, I just came to the conclusion I don't want to live in Mich.

Time/Money/wife not wanting to live wayyyyy south Texas. December 3rd was the date.

Whatev! We don't want Ohioans in Michigan anyway 😀
J/K... good luck on your other interviews!

I sent an email cancelling my November 20th interview. I have not received an email back from them saying they got it. Should I follow up to make sure they have me off the list or is it understood that I am not coming and they got it?

Yes, I think you should follow up just to make sure that they know that you cancelled the interview and then they can give that spot to another applicant. I applied last year and what pissed me off the most was when applicants did not show up on interview day and obviously did not inform the program that they were not coming. Not only is annoying to the program, it also costs another applicant an interview and a chance to match at that program. Basically, it's the honorable thing to do....

Good luck on all your other interviews.

Cancelled interviews at UF Shands-Jax on Jan 8, St. John Jan 13, and Allegheny General Jan 19.

Most of the ones I sent rejection emails to did not send a follow-up email. I checked my sent box and the message was definitely sent. I think a lot of them just don't reply to rejections.

Canceled UMichigan 11/24 and they sent a nice follow-up reply.

Regretfully had to cancel a January 19th interview due to a scheduling conflict...

I know this is probably really immature.....but anyone else getting a certain pleasure or satisfaction from cancelling the interviews? I for one, have been rejected by Harvard for undergrad AND medschool and now it is my turn to reject THEM for residency...feels so sweet 🙂 Booyaaaaah Hahvaddd

Got over my closing doors fear, cancelled:

UT-El Paso
Scott&White
Cook County
MGH
Kern
Orlando

Deciding which one I should cancel: UNM or Dallas

Cancelled UConn, Mass Gen/BWH today. UCSF-Fresno is still on the chopping block due to scheduling conflicts, unfortunately...

How many interviews are you all taking? Do you assume if you got an interview you are competitive at a program?

maybe this is not the right place to post this... but I'm curious now why people cancel the MGH/Brigham program....?

Rejecting invitation to interview by St. Lukes -- withdrew weeks ago.

id like to second that Q

For me it was mostly geography, it's a great program, but I got other interviews at other great programs with geography that was better suited to my needs 🙂 And I'm broke so it's a big chunk of change too. It did make me a bit nervous though, MGH is a really fantastic place (or so I've heard) but realistically speaking, there are about 5 other interviews I would rank higher.

I'm sure it's a great program for some, but it's definitely known as the stuffiest and most "consultation-happy" program in Boston, while i'm looking for something with more of a county experience. It obviously has a great name and i'm sure you get good training there (or pretty much anywhere), and I would have interviewed there if I could fit it into my Boston/CT roadtrip, but it would require a whole separate drive up in January, so.... 👎

Q

Also - canceled U Chicago 🙁... that acutally makes me sad, before going to ACEP this October (in Chicago), it was one of the top programs on my list... but it was SO cold!! And that was just in Oct... i'd hate to be there in Dec/Jan. Sigh.

Same reasoning for me. I wouldn't have been able to schedule it without having to make a separate trip.

Cancelled New Mexico 🙁 Such a great program, wish I could pick it up and put it somewhere other than alburquerque

Yea, Santa Fe is really cutesy, and the great NM food too, Sadie's in Albuquerque has the best enchiladas ever...but 3 years is just such a long time...lol

True. BUT I'm old, married, and into just having space to run, mtn. bike, and ski, so it wouldn't be so bad for me. Maybe my perspective is different.

I'll be sure to visit Sadie's when I have my interview. 🙂
