OFFICIAL Interview Invite Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks Psych_Ho! I was referring specifically to NW-Feinberg though 🙂
I've had some good results from a couple other schools, but am very fond of the NW program.

Ditto. I am in love with it. Also, I have a friend who's a first-year at the medical school that I will never see unless I live in Chicago as well. 😳

I guess we just have to wait...

The interview is with Northwestern (Evanston).

Psychanon- Thanks for the info on the small class size...thats what I was figuring. Lets hope they take more than 1 this year 🙂 .

Got the invite form Fordham by email.

Congratulations! Was it an email from the admissions office or from your professor of interest?

I'm just staring at my work phone now 🙂 :scared:

I know. This is making it totally impossible to focus on work. We should get these two weeks off or something...or maybe that'd be worse!

aw nuts, got a snail mail rejection from U Illinois- Urbana Champaign. In a big envelope, no less, haha.

I think worse for sure! Being busy, which I'm unfortunately not right now, forces you to take your mind off the application process. Free time is my enemy these days.

Has anyone actually received an invite to SDSU/UCSD or Berkeley yet? Does anyone know when Berkeley's interview weekend will be?

Here are some updates that I don't think have been posted yet:
University of Illinois at Chicago-- feb 23rd will be the "visiting day" (invites will go out this week)
DePaul: interviews will be feb 16th to the 20th (invites to go out this week)
University of Arizona: my friend got an invite but she is more interested in social/relationships rather than clinical psych. that being said, she did apply to the clinical program. I haven't heard anything yet myself.
University of Miami: the first interview weekend was for those being considered for a fellowship. there is another round for the rest of applicants sometime in feb.

I am sorry to hear that Serotonin! However, there are other fish in the sea...if you know what I mean. I feel ya though, I am waiting for a few of those letters myself!

As for the wait, the weekends are the worst for me because I am just waiting here with nothing to do and I don't hear anything! I think this is better...I will let you know tomorrow though, I don't have Tuesday classes.

According to my never miss list (laughs) I haven't been able to confirm Berkeley yet but I thought I could conform SDSU. I think that was recent too, you may want to look through (or better yet) or search this thread and see if you can find what I saw. If I am wrong, please please please let me know. I will also add your info to the list, thanks!

Me too! I totally love their program and I have a friend at the medical school who is third year- I only see her once or twice at Christmas anymore. Here's to hopin' for Chicago

Congratulations! Was it an email from the admissions office or from your professor of interest?

Thanks!
It was from Clinical Secratary's email but signed by Professor and Director of Clinical Training.

Berkeley's interview is set for the 9th and 10th. I was called by the department administrator last week. Thanks for the info on U of I!

Thanks!

Congrats!! Do you know if it was a form email? Sorry - I don't want to cross it off the list just yet!!

Has anyone actually heard from Drexel?

You know, I was doing alright because most of my schools hadn't really been mentioned... but day by day they show up as having already done their invites and I sit here with a phone interview tomorrow and another 8 schools ignoring me!

Good luck to everyone though... !

Hey everyone.

My friend just told me about this site today so I thought that I'd join in.

I've applied to both Canadian and American schools and haven't heard from anyone. I have applied to 9, and only Guelph and Northern Illinois have sent out interviews so I'm still waiting for 7 (one of which I still have time before application deadline).

Has anyone heard from:

Central Michigan
South Dakota
Western Ontario
Windsor
Manitoba
Concordia

I hate this process. I have no idea what I'm going to do if I don't get in. My GRE scores aren't the best (I have a disability) so I'm stressing even more. The only thing working in my favor is that I have a Clinical Masters behind me...

Waiting Sucks.

Congrats to everyone who's gotten interveiws so far.

Congrats!! Do you know if it was a form email? Sorry - I don't want to cross it off the list just yet!!

Thanks! It did look like a template...but it means nothing!!!!!
Don't cross it out yet! They have many specializations.

 If you receive a telephone invitation for an interview, and it is not too much trouble, would you mind asking the person you talk to:

1. When they expect to finish extending invitations for clinical interviews?

and

2. How many people they are inviting for the interview?

If you get that information PLEASE post it here. It would be really helpful to know when to stop waiting to hear from a school you have your sights on. I agree with others that waiting is agony.🙁

Does anyone else have this horrible fear that an invite email may have been swallowed up by the Bulk Mail feature? Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.

YES! That happened to me. My Duke invite ended up in my spam folder. Definitely check it!!

I got an e-mail from UFL today, and the interview will be on either Jan 30 or 31.

When do you all think it is appropriate to start contacting the department head or graduate coordinator at schools in which the interview date is in the near future, meaning you definitely are not invited (e.g. BU), to confirm your rejection? There are about 5 schools I believe I definitely am not invited to interview at, and I really want to know exactly what situation I am in. Can I call? Email? (unfortunately, I bet I'll probably just get an answer like "candidates will be told the status of their application throught february and march").

Just got an invite from DePaul....good timing as I was starting to get a bit down (see previous post). There interviews will be the 16th or the 19th. They are inviting 26 applicants to interview, and will accept 3.

i don't know, but i am thinking about calling BU as well. If you call any of your schools, will you post the info? I will do the same!

Has anyone actually received an invite to SDSU/UCSD or Berkeley yet?

yes, i got a phone call on friday from sdsu/ucsd and an email confirming (a generic email with my name on it) today. but...the prof said things have been very busy/crazy so i would not give up hope!

I emailed the human services (aka: clinical) program at UMBC today and this is the response I got:

The HSP faculty will be meeting twice next week (week of February 5th). It is an important goal for us to be able to contact potential students for interviews by Friday, February 9. That being said, due to other events (e.g., weather, etc.) it has sometimes happened that our invitations were not able to be made until the beginning of the subsequent week (i.e., Monday or Tuesday, February 12 or 13).

At least I know I havent been rejected yet!

I would REALLY appreciate somebody calling BU and finding out if all the invites have gone out. So, for those of you thinking about doing it, please do!

Its possible that not all invitations to BU have gone out. I received an invite from the anxiety department via phone...but I have not received an email or any follow up info. So...I don't think a form email has gone out. I might be wrong though...because I wasn't sure which date I wanted so the Prof put down "tentatively for the 12th". That might be why I didn't get an email...I just sent an email to the dept secretary to check.

Anyway, has anyone who got an invite gotten specifics via email? I'm sorry if I'm falsely getting others hopes up.

Sam Houston State Univ. (TX) has begun extending invites by telephone.

edit: Clinical PhD

I got a call this evening from SUNY-Binghamton inviting me for an interview (clinical psych). It was from my professor of interest. He said that there are two days for interviews: Fri. Feb. 23 & Mon. Feb. 26 (I picked the 26th).

Continuing to wish everyone good luck :luck:

YAAAAAYYYY!! I got a phone interview with my professor of interest at U Texas- Austin. Notified via email.

I really want to go there!!!!

aw nuts, got a snail mail rejection from U Illinois- Urbana Champaign. In a big envelope, no less, haha.

same here. not a big loss thankfully. I felt nothing, anyway, lol since it was a half-hearted application.

Was your phone call also a pre-interview or just an invite? (I have been playing phone tag today with my professor of interest at Binghamton and wasn't sure what to expect!)

Is it for clinical psychology? Thanks.

CORRECTION:
My friend who got an interview invite from U Kansas told me her interview is March 4th and not Feb 4th. When she got the email from them with the info, she was so nervous she misread it as Feb and panicked.
Sorry for the misinformation, folks.

good morning-- yes my phone interview is at U Texas- Austin is for the Clinical Psychology PhD. (with a clinical neuropsychology focus).

Hey guys i got my rejection form UIUC yesterday too. I wasnt too heart broken either i wasnt expecting much from them. Man this waiting is tough though. And for those who got calls from Binghamon, what professor??? I did my undergrad there and am just curious if i know them!

Did anyone else receive an e-mail from the U of Michigan that requests you to renew or set up a credit union account? I have no clue what this might mean, if anything. Just wondering.

My call was an invitation. I was afraid it was an interview. When I get calls, I worry that they are "cold" interviews, and not invitations, so I don't really want to answer the phone, but I am being brave and doing it anyway. I am not prepared for phone interviews at all!

Ya, I got the email about creating the U-M friend account. I did that, and it didn't really tell me anything. Then, I got this email from the grad program coordinator:

"Your application file has been forwarded to the Area Admissions
Committees. We expect to inform you of an admission decision by late
February. Thank you for your interest in the University of Michigan."

Not sure exactly what they will be telling me (us) in late february, about interviews or about acceptance, but only 3.5 more weeks to wait. good luck to you!

Hmmm......it is definitely a mystery as to how their application process works. I got the impression that they would not be conducting interviews, however. I applied to a dual clinical/ women's studies program though, which may make a difference. Good Luck!!!

This was for Child Clinical correct? Thanks.

I interviewed at U Michigan a few years back (not that it did me any good apparently as I'm still here! 😀) and after their initial reviews, they conducted phone interviews with your professor of interest (or whoever was most interested in you). They then decided who to invite for on-campus "official" interviews from the phone interviews.

G'luck!

I received a phone call yesterday and email from the University of Oregon COUNSELING PhD program. Interview is Friday 2/23 🙂

(from what I was told they are inviting ~24 people from 140 applicants to fill 8 spots)

Good Morning All,

Another day.......well I received an e-mail invite for graduate interviews at GSU for the Clinical program. They are on the 16th of Feb. from 8am-6pm. I was very happy to hear that I was invited for an interview but it seems as if I may have to reschedule.

It was not a personalized e-mail and it said Dear Applicant at the top. I noticed people were talking about that earlier so I figured I would mention that. Good Luck to all!! 🙂

Hey guys!

For anyone that's applied to Indiana (Bloomington) - the official interview day is February 23rd. The interview day is for ALL psychology departments (neuropsych, cog, developmental, clinical, etc...) so there will be a load of students parading around🙂

If anyone wants some stats...for clinical, approximately 12 students are being brought in.

TKJ: Question for you: Did IU offer to pay for your trip out? Also, of those 12, do you know how many spots are being filled?

I just got off the phone with the admin. asst. there. I did not get an interview, but she did tell me I was on the alternate list. This was, in many ways, my first choice, since I already live in Atlanta, and it was a tough one to not get 🙁 . (I just have to remember I have interviews in other places...)

I know some people have heard from NU-Feinberg. For those who have not, have you checked to see if the application website shows a decision for your application yet? It sounds like the NU-Evanston people who were not offered interviews have a rejection as their admissions decision on the website. I was wondering if NU- Feinberg did the same thing. I have not heard from NU, but I do not have a decision link on my application yet. Like many others NU is top on my list, I hate this waiting...
