OFFICIAL Interview Invite Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Univ. of Maryland system has a bad rep. in general of not keeping track of materials. Probably due to sheer size. I have not heard anything from them.

For the poster who had missing material did they contact you about it? I called them and was told that I would be contacted if I had missing material.

You would think the annoyingly early deadline would mean they would get their butts in gear a little quicker.

Yay! I just got an interview invite via email to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (where the guy is studying EXACTLY what I want to study for ther rest of my life, the neuropsychology of schizophrenia, huzzah!). This is for a Clinical Psychology PhD.

😀 My first one!

just got an email from south florida- interviews will be feb. 2nd and feb. 16th.
very relieved.

Yay, I got my first interview invitation from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs just minutes ago (Clinical Geropsychology). Yay, I am officially part of the interview crowd!!! YES!!!! Sorry, just a little excited!

Congrats to Irish and serotonin!

Hey all! For those of you who applied and are missing stuff, same thing happened to me. I called to find out dates and Ms. Brown (graduate lady) said I was missing all my transcripts and letters of rec! Hello!! turns out the graduate school is way behind. So I called the head lady at the graduate school and she said Ms. Brown emails her with missing stuff. She found my letters and transcripts and had them scanned same day. Ok enough about me. What you really want to know is that applications are under review (even if your stuff is not all together) and interviews will not be until MARCH!!! so, looks like we have to wait, wait, wait!

Irish: Congrats on your interview. and to all the others still waiting I say eat more chocolate and watch movies!! ok so that's what i am doing... 😛

thank you everyone, I really appreciate it. Good luck to all of you! I think I am the only one who applied to Colorado at Colorado Springs on this board (the program is in its second year or something like that, it is young...) but I am still pretty excited that I at least didn't screw up THAT bad on everything 🙂

That's great news for you! Sorry to clog up the board with chat and no news, I just wanted to cheer you on!

I have been on the phone with UMBC A LOT lately (they are missing a TON of items from my app - the only school I've had any problems with!!). Anyway, they seem to still be in the process of sorting through applications - I didn't get the impression that any apps had been sent to professors yet, so it may be awhile.

I spent 6+ years in b'more, if you end up interviewing there, I have some great recommendations for restaurants....and bars, depending how your interviews goes.

I was just wondering if the University of Miami invites are for all programs or just for the adult track. I applied to the pediatric track. Any details?

I haven't heard anything about Miami, for what it is worth.

I just got my second interview offer of the day, which amazes me. Iowa Counseling has started sending out interview invites with the interview date being 3/2.

Just got an invite for the UCLA clinical interviews Feb 8-10

Does anyone know what the latest possible interview dates are? I'm trying to decide if I can make spring break plans or not..the latest I've heard of is march 10th

Also..for the other person applying to VCU, I was told from a faculty member that interview invites will be next week and the week after so I think it really does depend on the professor you applied to work with.

hey!!! I was just thinking yesterday of updating with the Vanderbilt situation. On Monday, they'd ask for my fall grades since I told them it was available (my first GPA was 3.49 which is now over the dreaded 3.5) although it was really just to ferment probably the Dean's agreement. However, since then the professor I want to work with at Vanderbilt JUST called me and told me I've an interview on Feb. 9th as well! yes! plus, I was right, they are paying for travel and accommodation. I'm sooo excited!! Now I can go out and buy a very nice business attire.

Hey, it hasn't happened to me yet, but I just thought looking at the list irish made, what happens when you have two interviews that overlap? I wonder, would the school say you can come at a later date, or make you choose?

Congrats to all that have received interviews.

As for the spring break question....it might be wise to forgo it, and instead use that $ towards some new interview clothes and some nice food for your travels. I am pretty sure that schools need to notify their people by April 1st at the latest, though many do so well before this. The applicants need to file their acceptance by April 15th.

Vanderbilt is very good about paying. Congrats. I had a conflicting interview once, and I had to reschedule one of them. I just said I had an alternative commitment, and then I came on a separate weekend (I think maybe it was the weekend before the interview one). My professor was very kind to work things through. I was not offered admission there, but it was probably not related to my coming to the interview separately.

All applicants need to file their acceptances by April 15th? I am applying to masters programs too and they dont notify of acceptance until late march early april, if this is true I should be ok right?

I think it is something APA does to have some semblance of order and conformity for doctoral programs. It doesn't work the same way for MS programs.

UMD has finished reviewing apps and sent out their first set of invites

Hi all! I'm new, and I am anxiously awaiting my interview at U. of Tulsa this Friday. I am still waiting on others though....

Anyways, I noticed on Temple U.'s Clinical FAQ section that applicants should have been notified by 1/20, and if not, they should contact a professor. I e-mailed the guy and I am still waiting to hear back. I was wondering if anyone else has heard anything (even though I did not see Temple on irish's list). Thanks!

Irish: I called UMBC and they are reviewing apps right now and will be holding interviews in March. I noticed it's not on the list.

Everybody: Did anyone else apply to George Washington or George Mason?

I called them and was told that I would be contacted if I had missing material.

Sorry I didn't catch this earlier. I was not contacted about my missing stuff, I called them and that's when I was informed about it. If you haven't heard from them you might want to check up on it. The woman in the dept. said she was planning on emailing those with missing info.
Good luck

Clinical Admissions Update

Thursday, January 18, 2007:

We have had an almost record number of applications this year and are still in the process of reviewing them. We have not yet decided whom to invite for interviews, but we hope to complete this process by the beginning of next week.

Thank you all for your patience.

Everybody: Did anyone else apply to George Washington or George Mason?

I applied to George Mason (clinical) and the info I was able to get from the website said that invites should be out by 2/2 and interviews are 2/16 and 2/17. Hope that helps!

Somehow I missed that. Thanks!

If they don't reach us, they'll call back or email or something, right? I got a mysterious call earlier this month...but it was listed as "unavailable," and no message was left. I've also recently discovered that it takes 8+ rings for my voicemail to activate. 🙄

Sometimes I wish the internet didn't exist.

Everybody: Did anyone else apply to George Washington or George Mason?

I also applied to both of these school but have yet to hear from either of them. Looks like you and I are in the same boat. Good luck!

Does this mean there will be a 2nd wave? I knew that they extended invites to 30 people. Thanks!

No clue...all I was told was I have not been selected for the next round of interviews 🙁

I sent a private msg to irish but might as well post up here...I was contacted by the professor I want to work with (@ Indiana U (Bloomington) for clinical) last week about a possible interview. Anyhow, the professor gave me a ring this week (jan 15) for a phone interview. Pretty much bombed the interview which was surprising because I'm usually quite good at them! Damn...Indiana sounded like a really nice place!

Anyhow, I think Bloomington is starting with the international apps first to see who to bring in for an interview, and then they'll be moving onto the US apps. Didn't really ask about specific timelines, this is just what I was told in my interview. I really don't know if a phone interview + an in-person interview are required for internationals, but...take it for what it's worth.

I have to say, I wasn't really getting caught up in thinking about interviews but since it seems like a lot of schools are starting to give emails/calls I can't help but rush home after work to check my email to see if anyone has sent me anything!!!

I'm not an international student and I got an email for a phone interview from the prof I wanted to work with on Friday.

Anyone hear from University of Denver or Wright State? I know Wright State's interview dates are March 3 and 5th.

Hi everyone. I just got an email invite for an interview from the clinical phd program at University of Central Florida. The interview is on the 9th of February. Very excited except that i have to fly to that interview and i have never flown alone and only been on a plan like once before. But its an interview! I also got a second phone interview from Buffalo with a different professor. Not sure what that means but there it is. Thats tomorrow sometime so ill come back and let you all know what that was all about. Also who heard from v-tech? I saw it on the first post but couldnt find the person who posted it. That is one of my top choices and im getting nervous now cuz i havent heard!! This is torture!!

THe best advice I can give about flying alone....GET THERE EARLY!! It is a much better experience if you can do it at your own pace, and then go through everything with plenty of time to spare. Bring a book/laptop/etc and take the time to relax...because you will have a lot going on, and making yourself get to the airport early will give you time to 'just be'.

Best of luck on your interviews.

I was actually wondering the same thing about Virginia Tech. Also, if anyone has any additional information about the University of Arkansas, please post it or feel free to send me a private message. Thanks!

U of Arkansas (Clinical Ph.D.) is doing interviews next monday (1/29).

Also, I've heard from Ball State Counseling Ph.D. - interviews are 2/9

This is all I've heard from so far..

Anyone heard from Oklahoma State or University of Kansas Clincial Child?

Anyone know anything about Case Western Reserve or Wisconsin-Milwaukee? I still havent heard from any of my schools (luckily only 1 is on the list of having given invites thus far) so I am extremely nervous and anxious. Hopefully this will e my week - otherwise I think I'll start going into panic mode!

I am also a Case Western applicant and I haven't yet heard a word. They had a later deadline this year, so that could be why they haven't sent out anything. Don't worry about them yet!

Oklahoma State is having an open house on March 3rd I think..it says on their website that they will notify applicants in mid-February if they are invited so you have some time before worrying about that one..
Did you get an arkansas interview? That was one of my favorite programs and I didn't get one...

Hi all,
Has anyone heard anything from the following schools about interview dates or when invites will be sent? (For clinical psych Ph.D. programs)

University of Oregon
University of Washington
Michigan-Ann Arbor
SUNY-Binghamton
Missouri-St. Louis

If anyone is interested, I heard through the grapevine that Georgia State University's interview date is Feb. 16, and that applications are still under review.

Thanks!

This is such an anxiety provoking process. Despite this being my second time around I still can't help but to constantly check for new postings on interview dates and invites. Clinical Psych. is just extremely competitive.
I do have a great amount of confidence and faith though, so the process isn't as bad as it could be. I am just waiting to hear from my top rated schools. Best of luck to everybody and don't stress too much over interviews. Just make sure that you are prepared and you have sufficient knowledge of the school and the professors in the program. 🙂

If you get an interview then it's obvious that they are interested in something about you and your endeavors so be confident(not too confident) and show them who you are!

Thanks for the advice. I too am just anxiously waiting to hear about possible interviews. I am lucky enough to have two interviews so far but I am hoping for several more just to give me that much better of a chance of actually getting an offer or two. I will be so happy when this process is over and I hopefully will know where I am going (or at least what I am doing, if I am to apply again or go on to graduate school).

Good luck to everyone, especially those who haven't heard at all about interviews. I know it must be especially stressful if you are in that boat but don't give up hope!

They are still reviewing applications. No invites yet.

You guys applied the SUNY-Binghamton? That is where I did my undergrad! Who do you guys want to work with. Ill let you know what they are like if I had them for class or anything. I could also give you lots of information about the school and the area. Feel free to pm or just post on the board and ill let you know.

And for everyone stressing I know how you feel. This is my second time applying as well and i think my last. If i dont get in im not sure i could put myself through this again! Last time i applied to 6 schools got two interviews and no offers. THis time i stepped it up to 11 schools. I've got 2 interviews so far and hoping for some more. Goodluck everyone!! Remember life will go on even if its not in clinical psych!
