OFFICIAL Interview Invite Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
After reviewing this thread for some time now, I was was becoming increasingly anxious to hear from my schools. One of my Professors always used to say "No news is good news around this time". So, I was glad I hadn't received any rejection letters or e-mails yet.

This afternoon I received an invite for a Preview Weekend at Virginia Tech. This is my top school so I am extremely excited. A sigh of relief...the other schools I applied to are still reviewing applications so I am waiting to hear from them.

Hopefully this will be a beneficial experience. Well, either way I'm sure I will obtain some useful information.

I alos appied to V-tech and havent heard anything yet. Did you get an email? How did they contact you? Sorry I am starting to lose hope.🙁

There are a few interview invites I have posted. I haven't heard from anyone who has been accepted at a PsyD yet, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened!

. . .

No news is good news . . . unless you've heard from several others that they have already been invited to your program and you've heard nothing. Then you're likely better off thinking about going elsewhere, unless there's some firey tragedy that knocks off everyone above you. 😀

So, I officially got an interview invite at UNC this afternoon from my person of interest for Feb 23.

😉

I was wondering if anyone heard from Pitt, Rutgers, Vermont, Columbia, or Duke Clinical? Thanks!

Well, I am not expecting to hear from Duke. But their website says invites come in mid-jan and interviews are early feb. seeing how we are in the last few moments of Mid-Jan I am thinking the invites have pretty much gone out. But then again, I could be wrong. 😕

Congrats Hipinion... I guess I will see you there! I wonder how many they invited...

I was an alternate at Duke last year and interviews were on Feb 3 or so..... I've really been expecting to hear from them as they encouraged me to apply again this year and I've had very good feedback from some good schools this year, but I haven't heard from Duke either.

Yeah, I'm looking very forward to it... based on my interviews at other places from previous years I'd say that they're interviewing around 20-25?

Anyone have news from PsyD programs?

Hi, I'm a first time poster on SDN.

1. Rutgers website says "admissions interview day will be held in Monday, February 26, 2007."
Curious about Columbia Ph.D. too.

2. The only Psy.D. I have heard from was today--Yeshiva/Ferkauf combined clinical child/school. Interview-Feb 22.

so, anyone heard from columbia counseling, UPENN, or UWashington yet?

Hi, I'm a first time poster on SDN.

1. Rutgers website says "admissions interview day will be held in Monday, February 26, 2007."

If you don't mind...where on the rutger's website did you find that date? Is that for clinical Phd or PsyD?

I just went to the Rutgers website and found that interview blurb in the PsyD section. 🙂

Darn, I applied to PhD. I wish these schools would provide more info up front so you could plan. I guess they just don't want to get trapped into dates they can't make.

A grad student there told me that app files had been sent out to prof. to review.

Anyone heard?

In regards to Psy.D...I know one person who has an interview at University of Hartford and another who has an interview at MSPP (Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology).

One more thing for anyone who applied to Yale...

They are sending out emails to let people on the short list know BEFORE they give you your two phone interviews. Of course, I listed an old email by accident on my application and didn't read this email until after my first interview caught be by surprise. Anyhow, make sure you check your emails because they sent mine before they called me (so you would actually have time to prepare if you're not an idiot like me!!!).

Bummer...I haven't gotten an email yet. Has anyone else heard from Yale? I wonder how far they are into contacting people.

well, looks like I'm done for this week if last year's invites are anything to go by. hopefully, I won't be compulsive about checking my email and missed calls until next monday.

hey everyone,
My girlfriend doesn't have an account on SDN, but she's been lurking and I do have an account so I figured I'd let you all know that today she got an interview with CUNY's clinical neuropsych Ph.D program (different from their Clinical program that's already listed on the first page). Good luck to everyone!

I received an e-mail back from the graduate secretary saying interviews are currently being offered, as confirmed by an earlier post as well.

Is this for Emory's clinical program? It's one of my top choices, so I'm hoping that only the clinical invites have gone out.

Hi everyone,
I received a call tonight inviting me to an interview at Texas Tech University. The interview day in February 9th.🙂

Other than the email I received that said my application was complete, I too, have heard nothing about U of Dub.

I'm a volunteer RA in one of the UW psych labs, and I also applied to UW. I was told by current grad students that UW is typically VERY late in notifying candidates.

Already posted but apparently did well enough to get past my "pre-" phone interview earlier today and received email invitation tonight to on-campus interviews at Texas Tech in a few weeks.

Hi everyone. I just had my second interview with SUNY-Buffalo and that was pretty much the last one so if you haven't heard anything from them yet I dont think you will. I totally bombed my second interview, it was horrible. I get soo anxious that i completely forget how to speak intelligently. I kept on not being able to think of the word i needed. I honestly feel like the interview kills me because of my nerves. I just completely blank and repeat myself. UGH!! I am so frustrated because I only have two interviews and i totally blew that one. Any one else feel like they cant calm their nerves and end up blowing the interview??

Stay calm, you probably did better than you think! I feel like I always sound worse in my head than in reality. It's easy to get nervous in a high-pressure situation like that. I totally started rambling for a minute while I was on the phone with my person of interest. And I know some people on this board said that they thought they did really poorly in an interview and then ended getting offers. So hang in there! 🙂

Agreed. It's so easy to step back from an interview with a negative perspective --- looking at all the moments where you might have felt inarticulate or perhaps stumped by a professor's question. Truth is, in a pressured situation like these interviews are, I have to imagine the professors are aware of the stakes for the applicants, and therefore why everyone won't necessarily come across as the most eloquent speakers, due to nerves.

Thanks guys for the words of comfort. I appreciate it truly. No one I know understands how this process works and how hard it is to get in. It is great to be able to vent to people who can empathize with me because they are going through the same thing. Hope everyone else's interviews are going great!

I called Duke yesterday and they said they are still reviewing applications this week so cheer up - theres still hope! Obviously I haven't heard from them yet either 🙁 ... or any school for that matter

I got an invite to attend Duke's recruitment weekend, Feb 23-24. I applied to their behavioral neuroscience program. I applied to work on a very specific topic with just one person though. Because my interest is so specific, I may have been in a small pile of applicants.

I received a call from the professor I want to work with at Ohio State (in Clinical) last week, and he invited me to their interview day next Friday, February 2. It is a group interview day (although all of the actual interviews will be individual), so I'm not sure if this is it for them, or if they will be doing a second round.

And by the way, you guys are making me really nervous!

I just killed the Texas Tech phone interview and am invited to the interview day on February 9th. I was also told that they are going to be calling people through tomorrow, so don't give up hope if you applied there!

Did well enough? Mine was more like "Are you still interested in the program? OK, see you at the interview followed by some casual conversation. Didn't get the impression the conversation had much to do with assessing if I should be invited. Different prof's have different methods I guess.

Sorry to hear that you have heard nothing... where else have you applied? I myself am beginning to wonder about this whole thing. I went into this experience never once believing I wouldn't be starting my PhD this fall, but now.... I do have one interview at my 3rd choice and for that I am excited, but then again i start to wonder "what if I don't get in". This really is an interesting process. And like others have said, you don't really understand it till you go through it. But, life keeps moving forward, we can either stand against the current or sit back, relax and go with the flow. Hopefully life flows in the direction we want. yet, usually I find wherever I end up is pretty much where i want to be. I hope you hear from some schools soon.

This is what I received from the Graduate program coordinator, Kathy Hatfield: "We expect to inform you of an admission decision by late
February"

I am also waiting to hear back from them. Good luck!

Had my interview at Penn State - went pretty well, although I'm not sure it's a match. But I don't want to rule anything out, because I haven't heard from any of my other 9 schools yet! Has anyone heard anything about UMASS Boston, BU, Columbia (all Clinical), Boston College (counseling), Seton Hall (counseling)...?

Has anyone heard from DePaul or Denver (PHD Clinical)?

I applied to U Cincinnati as well and still haven't heard anything...

Hey... I'm new here but I've been checking this religiously so I thought I'd join.

The question about anyone hearing from PsyD programs... I've heard from one. I hesitate to say where because I don't want to be put down for applying to the "professional schools" that offer Clinical PsyD programs, but it is Argosy University in the San Francisco Bay Area. They are allowing me a lot of flexibility in choosing an interview date (which is sooo nice!) so it will be in early March sometime, probably on a Thursday. And in my defense, these programs are all APA accredited and they cost just as much as a similar program at an established university. 🙂

Anyone else applying to California Clinical PsyD programs? My app deadline wasn't until January 15, so it is probably early to be hearing about interviews... but I'm still nervous!
