OFFICIAL Interview Invite Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i could have sworn i wasnt getting an interview at umass bc i hadnt heard from them yest..i called and asked if they could tell me, she said no..but i ended up getting an invite tonight..so dont give up hope yet!

Anonymousplease - good luck with Yale, definitely sounds promising. I was just wondering whether your UMass invite came as a mass email or from your POI. Thanks!

I know there are several of you wondering about UKansas-Adult since someone has already posted UKansas-Child. I have yet to see anyone claim an invite from UKansas-Adult, but after reviewing their website further, they indicate interviews will be extended the beginning of to mid-February.

G'luck!

Just got my MSPP invite for interview on 3/3/07. Anyone know what percent get in after interview?

Teacher07, was your MSPP invite for the clinical psyd program? Did they call, email or mail it to you?

Any word on any other clinical psyd programs?

i called the clinical secretary to see if she could tell me..she said no. i later got an email from a prof, but NOT my POI (i have 2 and it was from neither) saying that she heard i called the secretary..not sure how the secretary knew it was me! a friend got a phone call from POI earlier on in the week , so i dont think they are doing mass emails ..but who knows? good luck..boston rocks!

Postal mail today. Any idea how many they invite??

I'm not sure if anyone else was interested in this one but Wheaton College (PSY D) has extended invites..Also has anyone heard from North Texas, Auburn, or VCU? I know someone posted on here a long time ago about VCU but I think interviews go by prof..one of them told me he hadn't extended interviews yet..I'm assuming he has by now and I didn't get one but I"m just wondering if anyone else heard from them..

Yay MSPP. Mine came by mail as well. They admit about 25% of their applicants I think. More invites may still go out depending on how many people attend the required interviews.

Auburn's site indicates interview day will be March 10 but we will not be apprised of our interview status until early February . . . so hopefully any day now.

I just got an email from the Secretary inviting me to interview at Duke either Feb 16th or 19th. I'll be there on the 16th and at UNC on the 23rd - see some of you there!

If you look on the first page of this thread it will list all of the programs that have extended interviews so far.

As far as I know, Yeshiva Psy.D., Pace, MSPP, Loyola, Widener, Virginia, and maybe a few others have offered interviews. I think Rutgers will be extending invites within the next week or so.

That is weird, she called me yesterday with the invite, but my only option was the 19th. Perhaps my prof couldn't do the 16th and she wanted to mix it up with phone and email? Either way, kinda weird.

That is strange - maybe she meant to say the 16th too? You're right though, maybe your POI will be gone on the 16th. Who did you apply to?

Good Luck!

I will PM you that

they told me that one prof, not my POI though, is only avail so that that day is better..maybe thats ur POI? i have to do the 16 bc of other interviews..but they didnt say anything about meeting with my POI. duke said that they have a "modified mentor approach"...ie, they take the best students they can while ensuring that accepted students have overlapping interests wiht at least one prof..sounds like it's less of a hardcore apprenticeship model than most programs, but that im sure they still do mentor matches.

has anybody heard anything back from harvard about interviews...? +pity+

has anybody heard anything back from harvard about interviews...? +pity+

the secretary said they may invite top ranked applicants for interviews in mid feb, but as of late jan the short list hadnt been narrowed down as the faculty were still making final reviews..thats what i found out. but it also seems they may pull a minnesota and just invite accepted students for visit, rather than interview per se

Hey, I got an invitation to Xavier's Information/Orientation day on Feb. 16th. I have two questions about this...First, is this just a "nice" name for interview? I am wondering because the APA guide to graduate programs book says Xavier has no interview. Does anyone know anything about this?

I also have an interview at Wheaton the same day. It seems may have to choose between whichever will give me a better chance of getting in. Does anyone know how many interviews Wheaton gave? Thanks and good luck everyone!

I'm unsure about Wheaton but I have a few schools that invited me to "open house" or some other nifty named day that still amounts to them interviewing me along with too many others to fill a certain number of available positions. I would take it as an interview and not assume that you're "in" until they give you the acceptance letter.

biola university (Rosemead) has also extended some invites but I don't think they are done

Here is the official invite list. I will post invites as I see them but please tell me if I am missing any. Also, if possible, say if it is social/clinical/etc.

University of Michigan (looks like interview is 3/9-3/10)

Can anyone fill me in on more info about U Michigan? Any idea when invites will be extended (or if they have?)

Also, I notice that U Washington isn't on the list yet. I know that some people heard from their POI, or had preliminary phone interviews with people in the POI's lab. Since I have not, does that mean I'm not in the running anymore there?

Ahh... the anxiety... at a certain point, you just want to know.

Thanks!

Hi everyone. so I don't know if I should be too worried yet, but of the six schools I applied to I have only heard from one - Pace University. I have an interview with them on the 16th!

I noticed from the very first post that my other schools have all begun - or finished?! eek! -- sending out invitations:

Yeshiva U - PsyD
CUNY - Clinical
NYU Counseling
Fordham U

Anyone know for certain if Yeshiva and CUNY are both done sending out invitations to interview or maybe they will be sending more later? I really hoped to hear from both and having heard nothing from either makes me a little worried.

I am, of course, thrilled to have heard from Pace!

Any ideas about Masters in Mental Health and Counseling programs? For a few of the applications -- Yeshiva and NYU -- there was the option to ask to be considered for the Masters in Mental Health and Counseling program if the admissions board did not find the application to be at the PhD level. I asked to be considered for the masters at both NYU and Yeshiva. Any ideas when I'd hear about that?

I also applied to Brooklyn LIU but their application was due only yesterday.

Wishing everyone the best of luck!

I am not a Washington applicant but I can speak for the list 🙂. Washington has been contacting some applicants but I don't know if it is a professor by professor thing. However, I haven't posted them (I think) because I haven't heard of anyone actually being invited to an interview yet. Losing My Mind, let me know if that is not the case. As soon as I see that they will be on the board, but I don't know if you should worry or not with professors calling. I lean towards not freaking at this point, not until you see invites on the board.

LosingMyMind was the only poster who had heard from his POI via phone and then a later poster (n*something?) later stated that she was advised they had not finished deciding who was to be invited. So, who knows if they are only inviting from the early phone calls or from something else. 😕

I actually haven't heard from my POI yet, but I did have two phone interviews with current students working in her lab. I emailed the second one on Friday and she said I should be expecting a call soon from my POI inviting me to an in-person interview. I'm hoping for sometime tomorrow, and I'll be sure to update when I hear.

Also, for what its worth (or for making people more anxious, I don't know), I applied to adult clinical, so that's the only program I can really speak to at all.

Good luck everyone!

hey,

anyone heard from gwu psyd?

how about rutgers psyd?

ive applied to 7 schools and have only heard from one so far (yeshiva combined school clinical psyd). 😕

Hey Paramour! Who did you apply to work with at Kansas? Good luck with interviews,

MelK

Dr. Muehlenhard is my primary POI.

And, thanks! I'm getting antsy waiting to hear back from my last 3-4 programs.

Cheers!

First, Any word on University of Illinois at Chicago child clinical? It seems like no one on this blog has heard yet, that's the only one I'm still waiting on knowing about...

also something else to run by y'all...

I was just at an interview at a school which I am VERY interested in, but is not one of my "highest ranked" programs... in an interview with my POI he only asked me one question which was "so with your scores and grades and experience, it looks like you will get a lot of interviews and offers. What will be the final deciding factor in terms of which school you choose..." The rest of my interview was me asking question after question because I didn't want to end the interview too quickly.

Now if you all were in an interview and this is what you were askedm would you think that the prof had written you off? I felt as though he decided that I might think myself too good for the program, and thus, will not offer me admission.... On the contrary, I fell in love with the program while I was there...

What do you guys think?

Has anyone heard from CUNY John Jay's Forensic Psychology PhD program? Do they send invites via e-mail, mail, or phone call? I am a little worried...I have received a few missed calls from NYC, but unsure if they are from anyone associated with the program.

yeah, im pretty sure this is an interview, i called the other day and they said they just didnt want us to freak out about it, thats why the gave it a more casual name.

I received an interview invite from North Texas (clincal health and behavioral medicine) last week, via email.

BTW, has anyone else heard from drexel?

Good luck to all.

Congrats! See, even though we all dislike being patient, we must do so with some of these programs.

Of course, this is easier said than done--I'm still (quite) impatiently awaiting responses from 3-4 programs. I've written off several others because they already seem to have extended their interview invites. It would be nice if programs that had no intention of accepting you would actually send you notice of this instead of waiting until April! 😡 It might save some of our sanity.

G'luck!

If you are waiting on programs and getting impatient, you can look up the professors you applied to work with on sites like professorperformance or ratemyprofessor. It is interesting how you view them differently. On one of mine I was reading that the professor seemed more interested in research than teaching and I immediately thought of it as a plus, lol.

Also, if there are any current grad students, look up your advisor and see if it matches your experience of them. I look forward to meeting some of these professors and just seeing how my perception of them matches up with what students say. Maybe I am just weird though.

OH I know! I think they just enjoy giving us heart attacks.

OH I know! I think they just enjoy giving us heart attacks.

Yes, I suspect that they want to see how neurotic they can make us and how well we can hide it when we show up for interviews.

My last application cycle, my POI seemed more interested in psychoanalyzing me and my personal history than anything else. I felt like I was a research participant. The other faculty interviews at the same place all started with, "You don't want to be here. And I'm not really going to talk with you much because I'm not interested in you since I wouldn't be your mentor anyway. And, oh, by the way, your mentor likely won't be here much longer due to health issues, so you may have problems anyway if we do decide to accept anyone under him." It was probably a blessing that I was rejected, but at the same time it was extremely disappointing.

Plus, I don't think any of us are really used to being rejected on a regular basis. It's hard 'cause there are SO many good applicants. I wish there was a place for everyone.

Hey for anyone who has applied or heard from University of Alabama. I know that people have gotten interviews. I had been emailed by my professor of interest awhile ago and he had a graduate student call me and talk to me about the program. Then he emailed me and asked me what some particular research questions were that i wanted to explore in graduate school. Then nothing. I havent heard a peep. Did you guys here from someone before your invite?? Do you think he didnt like my answer and i am no longer being considered. That was in the beginning of Jan and i know some people said they have interviews coming up this friday. WHat do you think??

This happened to me too but then I heard from the prof last week to say that they would keep me on file but weren't interested at this time.

Unfortunately I think I messed up the phone call with the grad student horribly. She called 20 minutes before I was writing a Physiological Psych exam and I was VERY flighty.

I received an e-mail invite for Nova's PsyD program on 2/1. The interview date is 3/9. They are also sending letters.

Anyone making travel plans to go to Michigan State? Where are folks staying? When are you getting in?

Firstly, I want to thank you guys for posting. It has been so helpful to see where other people stand. I applied to seven schools and have only heard from one (yet)--so nerves have certainly been an issue. This may be have already been asked earlier in the thread, and my apologies if that is the case and I simply missed it, but how unlikely is it that a school that has already sent out invites will contact another round of applicants later in the process. Specifically (if this helps), I was burned by UConn, Drexel, Emory, and GSU.
Thanks so much and keep up the good work!

Yeah i expect i am in the same position. I still havent heard from anyone but i assumed when i didnt get an official interview that i didnt pass that initial screening. I was also not confident about my call with the grad student. AH well.........hopefully ill hear soon so i can stop the agonizing! Thanks for the reply though it makes me feel better! (Yes im too the point where a rejection is better than nothing. One less school to worry about!)

I contacted the admissions secretary in CSU's Psych Department, and she informed me that they will not be conducting interviews for admissions to their Counseling Psych PhD program (which, just as a sidenote, makes me that much more nervous). She also said that she anticipates decisions will be made in late February/early March.

Also just contacted SLU's Department of Psychology. Their admissions assistant did not have much to say, except that applicants would be receiving an e-mail within the week detailing information about interviews.
