Serotonin is correct - the neuropsych is seperate from the other labs at UT. I believe the UT decisions are sent out on a more rolling basis as they don't have official interview weekends. Don't consider yourself out yet! I didn't apply to UT, but I did my undergrad there and remember it being that way for incoming grad students. Good luck with Fromme - she is great to work with!

Thanks! My dept chair went there for her grad school and she was offering to call some people for me yesterday when I started panicking about the computer screw-up. Thankfully, I calmed down enough and got somewhat of an answer before resorting to such evil methods 😉

Now I'm back to constantly checking my email and phone messages.

On a somewhat related note, I got excited earlier when I saw an email in my spam folder from UT-A. Unfortunately, it was just that. Spam. Evil spammers should not be allowed to send anything with a school's name or with "your interview" or with "your application status" in the subject line. :|

I don't wanna annoy people by making a new thread so I'll stick this here.

The U of New Mexico is apparently still accept applications because they're just getting ready to sit down and review applicants. The grad secretary there emailed me this morning (I'd contacted her a while ago) to let me know that if I move fast, i could still send one in.

Do you guys think it would be worth it? I'd have to beg my letter-writers to do one more (and find a different third person since my original one is out of the country with her mom who has breast cancer). But at this point I'm kind of desperate to think that I have a shot at going somewhere for the fall.

If YOU'd be happy to go there and they're willing to review you, why not? Especially if it might save you another application cycle. If you're truly interested in their program, make sure that you do indeed "move fast"--relay your time urgency to your profs when you ask for your LORs.

I understand the importance of these interviews and I feel that I have the skills, experience, and desire that will help me to succeed in any clinical program as long as I am comfortable and establish working relationships with the Professors that I work with.

I have a feeling that at one school, I interview with a group of Professors at one time and that just pushed me over the edge. I could handle one, and maybe even two..but more than that.....I am hopeful over the next few days these feelings will subside and things will go smoothly.

Anyone want to share preparation strategies and relaxation techniques 🙂

I'm practicing to be an ostrich--stick my head in the ground and not think about it, especially my group interview! Thankfully I've already spoken/corresponded with some profs & students at that one so I will likely end up more relaxed there than I will at my other program (although I've gotten some great advice from my grad host on that one as well).

I get nervous too. Whether I'm staring down a perp with a loaded weapon, dashing into a burning house or interviewing with a professor, I too, feel the heart palpiations and sweaty palms akin to this kind of pressure. Here's what I do:

Firstly, I want to thank you guys for posting. It has been so helpful to see where other people stand. I applied to seven schools and have only heard from one (yet)--so nerves have certainly been an issue. This may be have already been asked earlier in the thread, and my apologies if that is the case and I simply missed it, but how unlikely is it that a school that has already sent out invites will contact another round of applicants later in the process. Specifically (if this helps), I was burned by UConn, Drexel, Emory, and GSU.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. This def. helps You would think I would be more relaxed (this being the second time around for me). I feel confident though and I am not overly anxious or nervous so I will just play out the interviews in my head as I would like them to go and I will continue preparing 🙂

Sympathy and empathy have officially been extended, hermione. I am interested in clinical neuropsychology, particularly with reference to imaging technologies and their applications to the studies of stress, trauma and the etiology of psychopathologies. I know it seems broad but I really am deeply interested in the effects that neuroimaging can have (especially fMRI) in those areas. 🙂

I had a phone interview with my POI last week, an email from him the week before, and then he invted me to come down to check out his lab anytime within the next few weeks, so I am flying out there the beginning of March.

Not at all: I applied to UConn, Drexel, Emory, Washington State (in Pullman), Cincinnati University, University of Florida, Georgia State and University of Georgia.

I did not take the Psych. subject test (which I will remedy if I do not get in anywhere), so I could not appply to some of the rest in your list.

Oh, and I got rejected from Drexel; I have interviewed at University of Georgia.

I really hope everyone here ends up getting accepted at a school that they would be excited about attending. You can see how much stress this whole application process causes everybody. I mean, we're all going through it, so you really want it to work out for everybody...make all of this worthwhile you know?

admissions are SO fluky..ive been rejected by programs that are less "competitive" than ones ive been accepted to..it's all about matches on their end, but i strongly believe it's about matches on our ends as well. it's a huge commitment and ive really struggled prioritizing the factors that are important to me in choosing a school

Good question. I have done functional neuroimaging work, which was wicked cool (now you know I'm from Boston). For more information, check out www.div40.org, which defines a clinical neuropsychologist as:

"...a professional psychologist who applies principles of assessment and intervention based upon the scientific study of human behavior as it relates to normal and abnormal functioning of the central nervous system. The Clinical Neuropsychologist is a doctoral-level psychology provider of diagnostic and intervention services who has demonstrated competence in the application of such principles for human welfare..."

anonymousplease, my primary area of interest within neuropsych is seeing how neuropsych test performance can both be a predictor of course of illness as well as what neuropsych deficits are hallmarks of certain disorders, and also seeing if it can improve and what connotations that has. I'm most interested in psychiatric neuropsych, like seeing what neuropsych deficits schizophrenics tend to have. Secondarily I am interested in a more traditional neuropsych population- like looking at traumatic brain injury and seeing what problems in the brain lead to what deficits in behavior or perception. Definitely a lot of neuroscience in there.

I am not that interested in imaging, though I will do it because I understand its integral role right now. I worked on a study looking at EEGS and MRIs, but I like the pencil and paper stuff the best.

ericmh35, I too did not take the Psych GRE so had to limit where I applied. Provided I get in somewhere, I will say I'm glad I didn't take it since the regular GREs were a pain in the butt enough!

I feel like I was told 100 times "it's all about match" but I didn't completely get it until now. I have interviews/acceptances at schools I didn't think I had a chance in hell of getting in to, but had a good match, and I've heard nothing (no rejections, but it's getting pretty late) from less competetive schools where the match was more of stretch.

Plus, every interview experience I've had so far has been almost completely focused on match. They've barely mentioned my GREs or grades or course work. They want to know about my background and interests and how they match with their program. That's it.

Which is actually kind of comforting in its own way.... It makes me feel like they're focusing on me as a whole person rather than a set of numbers.

I absolutely love EEGs, but then again, I worked in a sleep lab for a while. I regret that I had to leave it. 🙁

I absolutely dislike paying for fees associated with this whole process, however. So add me to the list of people who did not take the subject GRE. This, of course, removed some programs from my list of apps, but ah, well . . . less rejections for me in the end with fewer programs, right? 😉

I e-mailed the department to ask this very question and was told that we'd be hearing word about interviews sometime this week. However, they didn't provide any information about when the interviews would be held.

If you don't mind me asking, who are you looking to work with at SLU? I'm interested in Dr. Austin.

Alas, no, I have yet to hear anything! 🙁 And everyone seems to have a different answer regarding whether they received a phone interview or whether they are still extending invites without phone interviews. I attempted calling in anonymously earlier to solve the mystery but kept getting voicemail.

Right now I would be happy to have my phone ring (or get an email) from anyone! Well, unless it's another reject 😀

G'luck! I'm jealousE--It would be nice just to go to Seattle right now. Otherwise, finding a reason to traipse across country might be problematic.

Of course I have been clicking the "accept/reject admission" just for fun these past few weeks/months. REGARDLESS, what does it look like on y'alls when you click that? I could've sworn it used to be blank at the top when i clicked it, it just had my name and "You are not authrorized to access this function now" but now it says : Accept Admission ontop of my name, of course I cant click it so:
1. am i hallucinating that it wasnt there before?
2. did they update that for everyone?
3. could it be a good sign?

I need to make myself feel better since I have yet to hear from ANY doctorate programs

I have an interview for northeasterns masters tomorrow and am FLIPPING OUT 🙂 wish me luck

I've been checking it religiously for no reason as there have been no updates. And, it still looks the same to me. Yes, it says 'Accept Admission' above your name but I suspect that's because it's the name of the 'section' that you're in (Accept/Decline Admission). Note that your name is also on the top of the page beneath the page title in other areas (e.g., Application Status).

Don't worry--we should allegedly hear from them this week!
