The second wave of interviews at Catholic University is starting. I just got a call from my POI inviting me on February 19th and 20th (it may have been or, I hope so) so I just thought I would throw that out there. I will update the list later tonight.

What's this second wave of interviews about? Don't the schools just decide who they are interviewing at once? Are second wave interviews for when they decide their first wave is crap?

I've been under the impression that if I don't make it when others are receiving interviews, all hope is lost. Have I been misled!?? 😱

I've spent a while going through it, but I still wasn't certain what the status is with GW PhD (vs. Psy.D) or UVA (non-Curry, specifically) but I'll go through again; I was kind of dazed my first trip through.

I'm not sure whether to be happy or annoyed by the whole second wave thing. I had given up on a few schools and, while I guess it's nice to still have hope, I'd almost rather just have a definitive answer.

Wait until you have your first adult psychopathology class. I remember my prof telling me that if I went home for t-giving, that i'd see my family in an entirely different way..... Of course...we had an exam a few days after t-giving...so I studied all week and I had Steaksgiving! In retrospect I had enough food for a few meals, but it was SOOOOOO worth it.

Yes, my colleague did get an invitation to UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago). The invitation came by phone, this week, from the POI. Since it isn't me that is seeking admission, that's really all I know.

Oh also! I know that it was on the master list before she was called, so somebody else is lurking out there with some insight - driving everyone else crazy!

And I do recommend this forum's search feature - you can even check out when invites / offers were made in past years! Use the advanced features to search the entire clinical psych forum - that will get you what you are looking for.

For what it is worth Catholic is the only one I have heard of that does that, so hopefully it won't happen to you much. They just happen to have done it the last two years, and I saw that in this thread from years past, so I knew to plan ahead.

Thanks for the insight, I am glad I wasn't going nuts when I made the list. I am also always afraid that someone will tell me something that isn't true, which I doubt would happen, but it would not be good! I am glad that this one is confirmed and in the books!

It looked to be a mass e-mail (though it was addressed to me specifically [i.e., dear so-and-so], so it seems that they sent it a version of the same e-mail to everyone individually). But it wasn't from my POI.

Just found this today, so I thought I should go ahead and post my info.

I had an interview at Missouri last weekend, which I was notified about on 1/17. On 1/16, I got an e-mail from my person at Stony Brook who wanted to talk that week, and I talked to him on 1/18.

I haven't heard back from any of the other 7 schools I applied to, but at least someone has heard back from each one. Has anybody actually gotten official rejections from any of the following schools?:
Denver
Emory
Vanderbilt
UNC
Northwestern-Feinberg
SUNY Binghamton
Virginia Tech

The problem is I know that a few of the people I e-mailed with in the fall weren't positive they were even taking a student. I'm assuming that not hearing from all of these schools is bad news. Hopefully Mizzou or Stony Brook will work out! They both seem great.

Also just a note, my undergrad independent study advisor has been helping me through this whole process, and he recommends NOT calling schools. He said that was a bad idea.

Surprisingly enough, LIU (2/1 deadline) has begun to extend interview invites (not sure if by email or phone). They couldn't have possibly looked through all the applicants, so don't worry if you haven't heard 🙂

Hey, just thought I'd let you know that I have an interview at UVa (graduate school, not Curry school of ed) for the clinical Ph.D. program on Monday. With being a donor, one of the benefits is being able to delete your own posts. I very nearly deleted the first post of this thread (which may have even deleted the whole thread, I don't know). That would have been REALLY REALLY bad. I do have a backup of it but it isn't all that recent (I will get a new one). Dang I should be more careful!

Also, just a random thought...isn't it funny how oftentimes on these message boards you assume people are like you? I know there are a few other guys on this board but it was always a silent assumption in the back of my mind that many posters like Sorg and Psychiety (I probably messed up your names, sorry) were also guys...but I don't think that is the case. Just a random thought.

Sorry about that, I just haven't had a chance to update all of those guestimate dates on when you hear because I have been so busy with school and putting in the invites as they come. To be honest, I just have been skipping over anything in this thread that isn't an invite, which I shouldn't do but it happens. I will update this and please let me know if you see others and I will try to get the list more up to date. Sorry, my bad!

I recieved an interview offer from University of New Mexico yesterday (phonecall from POI). They will be interviewing on March 9th.

Also, I have to say I am really disappointed but nowhere near surprised to hear about UPenn. What a bummer...
