Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Good luck to you all! Let's crush it.

Hey everyone! So I took the AAMC unscored yesterday and got the following percentages:

C/P - 83%
CARS - 98%
B/B - 81%
P/S - 86%

Does anyone know what this would translate to?

To be more conservative about my score range, and since the sample test is supposed to be easier than the real deal, I'm going to decrease my percentages. So, lets say I got:

C/P - 78%
CARS - 88%
B/B - 75%
P/S - 83%

What would this score be? 😵

Heres where I stand rn I would love any advice as to how to guide my studying for the last week from you guys.
4 TPR Full lengths 499, 500, 502, 506
unscored- 59%/91%/80%/75%
scored- 507 126/126/127/128
Bio Q pack 1- 79%
Chem Q pack 76%
Physics Q pack- 72%
Do you guys think my last week would be better reviewing all of my Q packs and aamc materials and doing the test banks or should I take another FL?

According to a formula I found on one of these threads awhile back your actual score would be around a 513, your decreased score would be a 508
Formula was y=.7133x+451.051 x being your percent correct.
Wish I could give credit to who came up with it but I dont have the time to look through the threads. Congrats on your scores!!

Id say do the section bank if you haven't yet, then focus on high yield topics and specific things you have issues on. Nothing too broad. Good luck!

Do you guys think triaging cars passages is a waste of time? I'm not sure how I feel about it because time is so crucial

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile
Yes, waste of time, in my opinion. You're going to have to answer them eventually.
I concur about the AAMC questions, I'm taking the unscored right now and Jesus Christ Kaplan asked maybe 3-4 physics Q's a FL. AAMC loves electricity lol, also I realllllly need to start memorizing AAs. Seems as though high yield stuff is REALLLLY high yield, like more than I thought. Gen chem and especially any substrate/enzyme affinity/concentration shiz is seeming pretty high yield as well.

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

I agree with the high yield stuff! At least from the section bank I can gather there will be Lineweaver-Burk plots, inhibition and Kcat, Vm all over the place! I'd rather do that then talk about limiting reagents which serves zero purpose. I went back and looked at my C/P notes from yesterday and counted 8 (fairly straightforward) stoichiometry questions. Electricity is meh, but it can be applied to a lot of lab techniques, which are VERY high yield.

For those of you taking it on June 2, what are you doing in this final week? (can't believe it is just a week away)

Well, I just finished the official guide questions: 83% B/B, 80% C/P, 87% P/S, 90% CARS. I'm going to spend the rest of today reviewing OG, tomorrow doing more content review, NS FL 1 tomorrow, Content review Friday/Saturday, AAMC FL Sunday, then content review up until the exam.

Surprising, though, that I did this much better on the OG than the sample FL. Sample FL I thought was way easier, and I thought I did way better on it.

Mostly crying

But really aamc questions only and high yield stuff like memorizing AA's and what not. Maybe will through in some khan of topics I'm having trouble with like circuits and enzyme/substrate stuff.

Update on scores since I just finished:

Kap diag: 487
Kap FL 1: 497
Kap FL 2: 502
Kap FL 3: 502
Kap FL 4: 506
AAMC Unscored: 64%/87%/75%/76%
Calculated to 127/128/128/128:511
Narrow range 509-513, wide range 505-517

Overall going from Kaplan to AAMC, I'd say the passages from the AAMC are much more convoluted however the questions are much more simple and straight forward. I was very easily able to see my weakness in the AAMC material as the constantly talked about high yield stuff is truly high yield. If I could make one suggestion it would be don't get too caught up in the crazy list of numbers and letters and long names in the hard science passages. Just read through and spend more time referencing your question at hand than trying to read through something just just isn't making sense. It took me a while to get used to it and it shows in my C/P score. If anybody else has some tips to get some easier points out of these last couple days leading up let me know!

This is what I am realizing also. I took the scored yesterday and would get so overwhelmed reading the science passages. I am reviewing it now and realizing that the questions are deceptively simple. Most of the questions I missed were things I absolutely knew but I got thrown off by the passages.

Would you think that the consensus on the AAMC unscored cars is that it's wayyyyyyyy easier than the real thing for CARS?

I got almost the exact same score as you on the EKFL1. Haven't taken the AAMC FL yet, but did take NSFL1 and got a 512 on it. Unscored AAMC FL for me was roughly around 508 I think with conversion. I do think you'll be able to get up to 510 by test day (I'm hoping the same thing haha). I've just been drilling chem/phys question banks, reviewing biochem (I used EK for all studying and thought their Biochem was really weak and most of my missed questions in the B/B section were biochem), and casually reviewing psych/soc on off days. FYI EKFl2 C/P was EXTREMELY difficult and killed my confidence. AAMC and NS C/P were much easier IMO so keep that in mind and don't get too down on yourself if you don't do great on that section.

You were so right about C/P for EK2. I died inside. Then my caffeine wore off halfway thought CARS. Ended up with a little bit of a comeback in the psych section to balance sleeping through 1/2 of CARS and all of bio. Lol. Ended up with the same score as on the first one.

Does anybody know how coffee works for caffeine addicts like myself? Can we drink coffee on the 10 minute breaks? I know it's a diuretic but I CANNOT burn out on the real test like I did today bio is normally my strong section and it suffered a bit today.

Taking NS FL 1 tomorrow, we'll see how that goes.

I haven't tried it yet but I've heard caffeine pills work well if you stay really hydrated the day before and then drink hardly anything while taking the test.

I'm in the same boat, I had to drink 3.5 cups and a scoop of preworkout before/during lol. Had to pee like a MF during C/P lol.

Edit: my addiction isn't as bad as it sounds, i actually hardly drink coffee(preworkouts a different story). Just slightly sick/out of it this morning and didn't get adequate sleep so I compensated lol

Do you guys know how representative an exam would be that I took 5 months ago? So I took a FL Princeton exam back in Jan and then I took the same exam yesterday and did significantly better, but I don't know if that's because I already took the exam or because I actually got better test taking strategies and I know the material better. The improvement was pretty significant 5+ pts. But then again its not like I memorized the questions and had them memorized for the past 5 months... when I retook the exam I began remembering some questions but not the exact answer. Anyways that was my first FL; now I'm going HAM on practice exams till exam day. What do you guys think?

I can hardly drink half a 8 oz. Redbull without having palpitations. I cannot imagine that much coffee and a full scoop of pre-workout. Half a scoop of my pre-workout at 6:45 gets me through a workout and studying until right about now, haha!

Just took the AAMC scored today and got 12 points lower than what the unscored was calculated to be, including going from 92% right on CARS (unscored) to 60% (scored). Should I just consider this a bad day and forget about it or do you think the scored is more representative than the unscored?

Yeah it was rough! Good job getting through it. How may full lengths have you taken? I've done 4 now and my stamina during cars has gotten a lot better just with additional practice. One way I get caffeine if I don't want to have to pee is to take excedrine (bonus of getting rid of a headache if you have one lol).

Haha yeah the tolerance is REALLLL, i constantly have to switch preworkouts because I adjust to them quickly. I don't usually drink caffeine outside of the gym unless I'm sooo tired and need to get something done. Sometimes I go through phases though lol, back when I worked as a busser pulling double shifts at a crazy busy restaurant I had a very bad habit with energy drinks(which I hated up until that point).

Moral of the story caffeine is bad mmmmkay.

As much as I hate to say it, I've done some SDN research and I have two general consensus's I've found out recently today.

1. This converter I'm using for predicted scores is very generous(which is tough to admit because even with it I'm scoring below my goal :/ )

2. The cars on the unscored is suppppppper easy compared to the real thing. Lots of people in the April group are reporting going from doing the best on CARS In practice to bombing it.

Sorry to be a buzz kill everyone :/

Hahaha I never thought to try pre-workout! I feel like the beta alanine would drive me crazy trying to read passages.

It'd be nice if they let you have an IV of caffeine while you sit there but I'm guessing that's not allowed.

Haha maybe try and get a physicians note stating you need the IV, they have to let you then!

Yeah the beta-alanine really gets to me, the itching & scratching can be a tad distracting at times lol.

But if you're open to trying preworkout for the exam/studying(or just looking for a new one in general) I would definitely suggest performix ion stuff. It's basically just an XR pre-workout that lasts supppppper long. Whenever I take it for a workout I get a solid 3-4hours after that can be used for great focused studying, I wouldn't suggest taking it before you go to bed though lol. Also side note if you do want to try it, don't get the new white one(idk what it's called) it's too powerful in my opinion and makes me feel cracked out/feels like it's burning holes it my stomach. The black container ion stuff is the perfect amount though.

PS: not a rep or anything haha just really love that stuff

my score on the unscored was really similar to yours- what do you think a realistic conversion is? I'm not super worried about the CARS because I've done well on the EK CARS which I find really subjective and much worse than AAMC materials, but yeah i've also heard the passages on the unscored are more straightforward. As for the real thing, i think the curve was really hard for CARS because most people have felt really good about it and then done poorly, which suggests that the curve has just been tougher on that section.

Hmm my conservative estimate would be 506-509(for original calculated score 511) 506, to account for -1 to all sections and -2 for cars. 509 for just -2 to cars.

I'm just basing this off of my pessimism and recent SDN trends haha. My feeling is once we take the scored FL we'll have a better idea.

And that makes sense about the curve, it's gotta be BRUTAL haha I mean everyone is getting 80-96% right on the unscored for cars and goes off getting 123-126's from what I've seen.

I think that it has to be much easier. The unscored CARS was the easiest CARS section that I have come across. I bet the real thing is much more like the scored which worries me because that was my lowest section.

Darn haha that's not what I wanted to hear but it seems like fact at this point.

May I ask what you got on the unscored?/how long ago you took it? Your scored FL is around what I'm aiming for, and I'm trying to get a ball park estimate of where I'm at!

I took the unscored about 2 weeks ago and my scores were C/P 81%, CARS 91%, B/B 73%, Psych 88%. It made me realize that I was weak on bio/biochem and I managed to get that up for the scored.

So I got about a 508-510 on the unscored and i'm taking the scored one this week. I just finished the section banks, and I got 65% on both bio and chem/physics, though I did well on psych. Should I reschedule? The 65% is so low:/

I don't think 65% on the section banks is that low. Those are really tough. I would see how you do on the scored first.

Wow nice job!! Any suggestions that can be widely applicable for C/P? I absolutely bombed it, also any suggestions for psych? I feel like I'm
not really too strong on the definitions for psych but Idk how to memorize them alllll, at least for me the words all seem so similar lol

I'm hoping for a 510+ on the scored, but the section bank made me discouraged. Isn't a 65% like a 125 though? That's worrying me, because it seems a lot of people are getting 75%+ on the section bank and then getting a 510+ on the actual test...Idk, I hate this test haha

One of my majors was psych, so while the section is pretty easy for me, the way I would learn psych definitions in college would be writing them on a white board. For example: Social constructionism and symbolic interactionism mixed me up a lot for some reason. So I wrote them and their definitions down and kept reviewing them and a bunch of other terms on the white board, and eventually it stuck. That's how a psych professor told me to study in college and it's worked since then. Something about a white board makes them click as opposed to a notebook or watching videos.

Those two actually mix me up all the time! But hmmm interesting I might have to give that a shot, oddly enough I have noticed that in all of my classes I've retained information the best when my teacher write/draws on the white board. Might just be coincidental because it was all the class I enjoyed the most too. But any ways probably will work even better if I'm the one using it. It's the magic of the whiteboard haha.

Thanks. I wish I had advice for C/P but I feel like I struggle with that section especially with timing. Knowing all the amino acids backwards and forwards and knowing enzyme kinetics really well will definitely get you some points. For psych, I used the Kaplan book and read it a few times, took notes on all the definitions, and did a lot of the Khan passages. For some reason, I am really good at memorization so that section just plays to my strengths. I wish I had better advice for you as this is not that helpful.

Thank you, any advice is helpful trust me! I'm kind of glad to hear that about C/P because those are the question i felt like i struggled most with, I havent gone over it yet but I can almost guarantee i missed every AA problem and a good majority of enzyme kinetics one. I think i really took the high yield stuff for granted. I think I'll give Khan a try for psych I haven't done that yet!

How did you go about memorizing the AA's? I got an app to try and help but it's quite horrible lol.

Hey have you taken the section bank? I'm trying to figure out if 65% on C/P and B/B is good if I want to get above a 510 on the real thing haha

I had to memorize them when I took biochem. The best way for me was to draw them out over and over until I could draw them all without making a mistake.

Jesus christ this C/P Section bank is absolutely steamrolling me.....BB wasn't awful after a while...have yet to Psychology....feeling discouraged about C/P wth...

do you guys think the section bank is worth getting? obviously the unscored and scored exams are - but what exactly is the section bank?

It's made up of incredibly hard passages where I had no idea what was going on half the time. I got a 65%, which apparently isn't bad at all, which shows how difficult the section bank is. Some people say that their real MCAT was as difficult so i'm worried.

I have not yet but from what I've heard people are scoring anywhere from 40-75%! My guess is 65% would be good for the section bank, it seems to give everyone issues. I'm not sure what it would correlate to but if I were you I wouldn't get too discouraged!

Just took the scored practice test: 128 (83%)/128/126 (73%)/126 (73%) Total: 508.

This is so confusing, because I just took C/P section bank yesterday and got a % in the low 40's. Is this scored test considered harder or easier than the actual?

So if I got a 65% on the C/P section bank I should do well on the scored test? I heard the scored test is pretty accurate.

Since the recent MCATs seem to be heavy in calculations, what do you guys recommend to practice this?

Should I do the C/P section of the 10 Altius practice tests to prepare? Basically, like mini-section tests?

or would it be better to do the TPR SWB passages of both Physics and Chemistry? I'm not sure how helpful or representative the SWB is…

Hey everyone, English is not my first language and I have not been in the US for long. I scored +85% on every section except CARS. Is anyone out there in the same situation and improved? How did you do so? Thanks

Do we need to know the structures of the nucleotides? I missed like 3 questions on the section pack because I didn't think we had to know that....i'm so tired of AAMC testing us on tiny details.
