Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Good luck to you all! Let's crush it.

Finished content review this past weekend, so bring on the full lengths! Any suggestions for the best "diagnostic" or first one to take?
I have the AAMC bundle, which includes the sample test.

Just did Next step FL 1 yesterday and found it much easier than EK 1 and 2. I got a 512 on the Next step and have been doing around 65% on the other ExamKrackers (hate how they don't give a scaled score). The NS passages were much longer than the EK and I ran out of time for the first time in the C/P section and had to guess on the last 8 or so questions. I really like the report you get after finishing the NS, and I also like seeing the percentage of students that answered each answer (made me feel less stupid on some of the ones I missed when I saw that the majority of students answered the same wrong answer as me). Overall I think I enjoyed the Next Step more just because of how easy it is to review your answers (plus this one was free which was really nice). My plan is to do the AAMC sample this upcoming weekend, then the scored AAMC full length before deciding if I want to postpone, then doing EK 3 and 4 the weeks before the real thing June 18. I've been really worried about the C/P section and still am not sure if I'll feel confident enough with the next month of practice.

Can you guys help me interpret my AAMC unscored full length scores? I got: 76% C/P, 74% CARS, 68% B/B, 86% P/S. It felt wayyyyy different than Kaplan.

I was doing kaplan FL but didn't do well on those. I am doing next step full lengths now, and according to many posts I've read, it is one of the best Fls you can do.

I'm working through the AAMC Official Guide sample questions the rest of today and doing Next Step half-length diagnostic tomorrow. I've heard mixed reviews about them, but great things about EK's full-lengths. I think I have a few of Kaplans and TPR full-lengths on my schedule for the next month along with EK's and the one from AAMC (best for last). I'll never turn down a free half-length diagnostic and full-length, so I'm all for taking both of those!

That sounds good man, I have a lot of kaplan tests as well. I am thinking on doing at least separate sections like cars or p/s per day to practice, and stay with my NS FLs weekly until test day. I don't know yet when to start the AAMC bundle, probably after my first AAMC practice test. Somedays I get demotivated because I haven't been scoring well on the FLs. My highest score so far is 497, I got it last friday.

Have you tested on any of the AAMC material yet? It's going to be most representative of the test, so I'd go by those scores over any of the others

I'm not doing very well on the official guide questions and I haven't seen anyone else say they struggled with them. Starting to worry.

I just did them yesterday and I had a little under 60% on each of the C/P and B/B sections. They were difficult, in my opinion, so you're not alone! I really liked the CARS and Psych sections, but definitely need to work on some of the organic chem and chemistry bits. Haven't taken the sample test yet, so we'll see how that goes!

do you guys think the june 18th date would be too late for this cycle's application??

i'm scheduled to take the exam this friday but based on my aamc scored 501 (126/123/127/125) I really want to void it this week and sign up for the june 18th and go hard on verbal for the next month

what do you guys think?

@medbunny56 6/18 should be fine. Have you started on your other application materials? If you're a TX application it may be a more of an issue because I think their app opens sooner.

The Health Professions Committee at my school says July is still early for them. August and beyond, not so much. Our score release date for June 18 exam is on July 19. My opinion is post-pone, sign up for the 18th exam, relax a few days after the MCAT, have your app completed before July 1, and wait for the scores.

Sorry I meant to say that I want to take the June 2nd one do you think it's worth delaying for two more weeks so I could improve verbal?

I would love to tell you that verbal can be improved in 2 weeks, but I honestly don't know if that's practical. Either way if you feel like you want to focus on verbal, then I say definitely postpone. Big strategy changes are kind of risky this close to game time with verbal, whereas other subjects are mostly knowledge based. What strategy do you use?

That's about how I did, so hopefully it's not too bad. Agreed about CARS though, really liked those passages.

Hey everyone! I just found about this lol I take mine on June 2nd (cant believe its 15 days away) and I could really use some advice. In the past 7 days (including today) these are my scores:

May 14 - TPR: 497
Chem/Phys: 124
CARS: 124
Bio/Biochem : 126
Psych: 123

May 15 - AAMC PracticeTest (most recent they released) : 494
Chem/Phys: 125
CARS: 123
Bio/Biochem: 125
Psych: 121

May 17 - AAMC Sample Test (the one they released back last year): 501 (I FINALLY BROKE 500)
Chem/Phys: 127
CARS: 124
Bio/Biochem: 127
Psych: 123

May 18(today) - EK 1: Chem/Phys: 56% (124)
CARS: 60% (123)
Bio/Biochem: 59% (124)
Psych: 53% (122) Overall: 57% which constitutes to (493)

What do you guys think I should do to try to raise my score? My goal is to get a 515 and I'm scared that I havent even reached numbers close to it yet. Honestly I thought I would have done better at Chem/Phys and Bio/Biochem. EK1 today was REALLY hard...

@Mr. otcoD are you reviewing your tests to see what you are missing? Content or logic or not paying attention? Unless you have a reasonably easy deficiency to address, I don't think it is realistic to raise your score to 515 in 2 weeks.

@BlastedHeath I am. I literally make sheets full of pinpoint facts that I completely forgot while taking these tests. So far, in Chem/Phys and Bio/Biochem I'm able to get those questions correct. When it came to today's test, there were many questions that involved interpreting the data from the passages that I couldn't understand how to reach conclusions. For Psych, I've been going over concepts and been watching a lot of Khan Academy videos while taking notes. Some of it is stupid mistakes while some of it, I didn't know (content wise).

In all honesty, I've heard rumors that if you stay around a certain average on practice tests, you can add like 6-8 points when you take the real one but I dont want to depend on that you know?

That psych score can be raised with some content review. I took psych/soc 4 years ago, didn't really learn a single concept that is tested on the MCAT. I've been doing content review out of EK and KA, just hit 126 on my first real FL. That's with about 1 week of content review in that realm.

Take with a grain of salt, but here is a compilation of self-reported practice scores and final scores from the MCAT Reddit. Many people score higher, but I don't think you can generalize 6-8 points higher, plenty of people are close or some end up scoring lower.

Yeah thats why I was like "I dont want to depend on it at all." Have you taken any of the EK full lengths yet?

Kinda related to taking the exam. If you guys are applying this cycle and taking the exam on June 18th, are you submitting your applications on June 7th/in June or after the MCAT?

I haven't taken any EK and I probably won't. Too expensive for me. I have taken one Kaplan, one princeton review, and one next step exam so far. I'm currently working through the AAMC material. I got around 500 on both Kaplan and TPR, and 509 on Next Step. I feel like my "accurate" score is probably in between those. I'm hoping for a 510, and would be satisfied with anything above a 508. I'm definitely worried right now, not sure how valid that worry is, but I'm tackling this thing 24/7 until the test on June 2nd.

I think theres an option where you can apply and submit your application. There may be some option that says you will send your MCAT scores in once it comes in. Otherwise until then, your app is incomplete based on my knowledge (i could be wrong this is my opinion)

I'm sure you'll be fine given that your practice tests are somewhat close to what you want. I'm tackling this too and giving it all I got as are everyone else taking it June 2nd! You got this!! 🙂

Checking in for June 2nd, hope everybody's prep is going well!

Can anybody comment on the difference between Kaplan style questions and passages and AAMC style questions and passages? I'm going to start cranking out my aamc material this upcoming week. I finally got a decent score on a kap test(506 after 502 502 497 diag487) but I still feel my content is lacking and I'm relying too heavily on deductive reasoning. I understand that there is a weak correlation between kap and aamc scores but I'm just wondering why the difference. Is aamc more straight forward content questions? Or is kap just more convoluted?

Also if anyone can comment on what they thought of FL4 I'd love to know. I went up 2 in c/p, down 3(whoof) in cars, up 2 in bio, and up 3 in psych/soc. But my percent right only increased slightly (2-3%)for chem and bio.

Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm doing the NextStep diagnostic today, which is scored (I think). I'm eager to get some scored references! And my goal is exactly what yours is. Good job so far!

Alright, I officially hate Kaplan. I just got another 501 on a practice test (125/126/126/124) after doing pretty well on the AAMC sample test a few days ago (76/74/68/85). There's no way this is representative

That's a great AAMC score!(which is the only one you should care about)

What do you think made a big difference in the psych? Is Kaplan just wayyyyyy off?

Has anyone done the section banks from AAMC? Specifically the Bio section? I don't understand how the passages could be so difficult :/

I finished Chem and Psych and started Bio today. I was doing okay for about 10 questions and then I got 5 wrong in a row. I am going to try to finish it tomorrow after I brush up on biochem.

@Scrubs101 I have no clue dude. Whenever I do Kaplan tests, I always thing I'm doing really well, and then SMACK nope. I couldn't even tell you. The AAMC sample felt a lot more straightforward, though.

I swear its so ridiculous. I have such a hard time following all the letters making each protein/gene/transcript ugh
I dont know how to interpret my scores.

Kaplan is driving me cray cray. I wish I could cry but my tears have become dehydrated from stress.

Do you know what this score would translate into?

According to this handy dandy excel file I have on my phone that I found on SDN, a 511. Narrow predicted range 509-513, wide range 505-517. I'm not sure where I found it/if I can upload it from my phone back onto here, but if you do some looking it's around here somewhere!

That's good! Yeah I have no idea what it is about Kaplan but these exams are so freaking rough. I get the same feeling, I'll think I killed a section and did poorly in another and then I get my score and it's the opposite of how I felt. Idk I think I'm calling it with Kap FLs. They're just a headache at this point.

@Scrubs101 I also did well-ish on FL 4, I got a 505

Congrats!! That's great for a Kaplan exam, the way I think of it is add 5(modest)-10(hopeful) to kap FL. I thought the cars on that one was brutal though lol. I'm hoping that kind of reported improvement from Kaplan tests is applicable to all scenarios/people!

@Scrubs101 Have you done any AAMC materials?

I have not, I think I underestimated how much time my summer classes would consume lol. Planning on doing a section bank tomorrow, and the unscored Sunday or Monday! I'll update with my thoughts on the differences when I finish!

Out of curiosity, how many FLs would you guys have done by your test date? The 7.5h long exams are really taking a toll on me and I find it really hard to push myself to do as many of them as I'd like...

I'm going for 6(4kap,2aamc), and if you have access to any section tests I'd highly suggest that! That way you can get the time test feel and take it in increments of an actually section so you still get the practice

Seriously, though, I don't know how much trust you should put into kaplan scores. I saw somewhere on SDN that it's a conservative estimate to add close to 10 points to your average kaplan FL score.
