Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Good luck to you all! Let's crush it.

Got a 61% on the Psych/Soc section bank. Is that super awful? :\ I felt like a lot of the questions were super easy with the data interpretation. I wish they'd put in more graphs and tables because that's always what really throws me off!
I think anything about 60% on those is good. Haven't heard as many people talking about the psych/soc section, but 60+ is definitely a good score for the others.

Question!! In the electron transport chain, why would an excess of glucose cause an accumulation of NADH/FADH2; and depleted glucose cause an accumulation of NAD+/FAD2+? This was on the second Kap full length and the explanation didn't really help me understand why this would be the case (I originally thought it would be the other way around).

also @sleepyhead22 I just listened to the song in your username after so many years lol

I would think it's the other way around, as well.
Maybe since Kreb's precedes the ETC, if there are more glucose molecules turning it (excess), then that means there will be a lot of NADH produced from Krebs. This NADH goes into the ETC, and oxidizes to NAD+. A lot more produced, means an accumulation before ETC can process it?

In houston, i was taking it june 2nd. The power actually went out before C/P could finish. it was VERY different from how people from May 20th were saying it. It was dangerously easy. Unfortunately, had to reschedule :/

Woah that sucks! When are you going to reschedule for? This seems to be happening really often lately and now I'm terrified.

Yea, what is going on here? This is making me worried since my test is on the 18th. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly for the rest of the people who still have to take the test. It would suck to have to reschedule since it will delay almost everything. The brighter side is, you have extra days to prepare? Sorry to hear that Mr.otcoD.

I'm near Waco and it is pouring here, so I can't imagine how awful it is in Houston with all the flooding recently! That's terrible about the reschedule though!! Any idea when the new test date is?

That sucks :/ Wonder if they reuse that test...

Please put it on July 8th... 😛

Honestly have no idea. Everyone was upset you know? I don't know if its going to be June 18th or later. What's even more surprising is that an hour after they told us we have to reschedule, everyone went home and the weather became sunny again...

Ridiculous. This sucks man. It's really not fair at all, especially if you are applying this year :/

All finished, I'll try and do this within reason of my restrictions.

C/P: redonkulously easy compared to section bank and maybe even easier than the FL
CARS: in my opinion on par if not a bit harder than the scored FL
B/B: hardddddddd as ****, similar to section bank For sure
Psych/Soc: on par with the scored in difficulty

Ohhh geez. Opposite from what I would have expected!! I just have Psych/soc left in my practice FL I'm taking now.

Maybe we had different tests but I found the c/p to be the hardest section. I usually finish with time to spare, but today I was working right up until the last second and barely finished. On the other hand, the b/b was not as bad and was similar to the full length in terms of difficulty.

Was C/P hard because there were lots of calculations? Was there a lot of organic or physics?

I completely agree. C/P was the hardest for sure. And I generally tend to do the best in that section.

I'd say lots of gem Chem. To a degree it was one of those things where I may have found it particularly difficult because I didn't quite know how to work a problem so it took me longer than it should, but I knew I could get it eventually so I wasted time.

^^ I second this. C/P was the hardest section for me too. It had so many more calculations than I expected. I feel like CARS was the easiest section and FYI I have always struggled with cars/ scored lowest on practice exams. I thought B/B was pretty tough too but not nearly as bad as C/P. Psych was fair. All in all, I'm feeling a bit defeated but I'm glad it's over and I'm just praying the tons of hard work and practice I put into this paid off!

That's possible or it could be I went into the C/P with a mindset that I was gonna get crushed and was pleasantly surprised(I tend to do the worst on C/P). I also went into B/B thinking I was gonna kill it as it's normally one of my best subjects and I crashed mid way through and started over analyzing ever passage and rereading over and over

Well, just finished! Regardless of how I did, I'm definitely taking a nice, deserved break tonight.

So:
C/P: Honestly, I didn't think this was terrible. There were a lot of calculations (a few really weird ones) and I finished with like 3 minutes to spare. I think I marked like 9? Idk. I wish I had more time to check over my answers, but all in all, this was fine.
CARS: Also fine, up until like the 5th passage. For some reason, I started really feeling the time, so I sped through the 5-6 questions. The rest was fine, but this section I feel the most iffy about. Hopefully curve is generous.
B/B: Started off fine, got harder toward the middle, and then back to fine toward the end. 3-4 passages that were definitely section bank-y.
P/S: I think I missed 9 or 10.

Overall, it was way different than what I was expecting. Much more straight forward than people made it out to be. Pray for that curve, y'all.

IMO
C/P - not necessarily super hard I just feel like I didn't have enough time for the about of calculations and problems that I had to physically draw out
Cars- little harder than unscored but easier than scored but I also enjoy cars
B/B I felt like if you really read the passage it wasn't bad but some questions I was like ....uh???
P/S same as always fair but I never have any clue on how I do on it lol
In terms of difficulty I would say
P/C > B/B > P/S > CARS

Agreed that curve is going to make or break me. Especially with the recent apparent trends for CARS scores.

Oh forgot to mention, the AAMC had some good taste in CARS passages this time! I thoroughly enjoyed a good portion of them, the questions and more specifically the closeness of options is what threw me off!

Just finished. Chem/Phys easy. Few difficult questions. I was amazed. CARS. Easy. Bio/biochem a bit harder. Maybe the fatigued. Plus I'm not a bio major. Psych/soc, I always feel this is my worst, even usually do a lot better than I think I will. Over all: On par with the scored, easier than the section bank (bio was on in-between). Everybody says the real MCAT is harder than the AAMC materials. Speaking as objectively as possible 1) the AAMC material is left over exam material that they didn't thrown in if not from old exams that they actually used. 2) Stress perturbs your mind and clouds your judgment. Honestly, that is the biggest hurdle. Definitely not as bad as I thought it was. I had the feeling of just doing a standardized test rather than the feeling of trying to slay the Chimera stopping me from getting into medical school.

Hardest part is the night before, when you can't sleep!

Some of the CARS passages are really neat. I wanted to look up one of them but I've forgotten what it was about. My mind is gone.

Based on the C/P calculations, do you guys think doing the TPR SWB workbook will be worth it at this point? I test June 18.

Survivors, gather! Glad to hear back from everyone!
I've also noticed from this round of prep that the CARS passages are MUCH more pleasant to read. Even if the answer choices are hard to narrow down, I feel like that aspect of it takes so much stress off. I will fall asleep if they give me any economics passages from the old MCAT.
CARS gets more interesting and B/B gets more convoluted. Interesting trade-off

Would you say the calculations were mostly plug and chug into memorized formulas? Or were they based on the passage/experiments?

Ok that was the weirdest c/p ever. It was a mix of extremely easy questions with extremely convoluted and out-of-the blue questions. Overall my least favorite section.

Cars was ridiculously easy. Super interesting passages (and I never find cars passages interesting) and straightforward questions.

B/B was okay. It had more fact-based questions than I would like. And was it just me or was a lot of the charts/graphs in the passage not needed to answer the questions??

P/S was alright.

Overall, really didn't like the C/P and B/B. But cars was nothing short of pure awesomeness.

I really have NO clue how I just did on that. C/P seemed easy initially but I can't remember much of it. I ran out of time like I always do on that section and had to rush/guess on some at the end. CARS wasn't TOO bad, except for 1 passage where I had no f'ing clue what was going on. Again, time was an issue and it isn't usually for me on that section. The passages seemed much longer than usual. B/B was BAD. Some passages were very convoluted, and again I ran out of time and had to take a wild guess on a few. Psych was okay. By that point, my brain was dead. I had never heard of a few of the terms and I memorized that Kaplan book.

Second that. Acronyms anyone?

In houston, i was taking it june 2nd. The power actually went out before C/P could finish. it was VERY different from how people from May 20th were saying it. It was dangerously easy. Unfortunately, had to reschedule :/

No way! Harwin location? I made an account just to say how mad I am that the power went out during the test. C/P was so easy too! I managed to get rescheduled to the 18th.

I think I seriously plummeted the B/B section and I was always playing catch up for all the sections. I basically guessed left and right for B/B which was manageable in practice full lengths but real one went terrible for me. I did most of the questions without reading the passages because they were so frustrating to read. make sense? hardly

Cars: I wish I had gone faster with pacing which is something I always struggle with because this was a decent section. Something tells me there won't be an appreciable curve for this.

Psych: Never was a fan of this section...nuf said cause I can't predict how I actually do on these.

Chem: Eh, I wish I had learned more things and paced myself better.
