Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Good luck to you all! Let's crush it.

Makes sense. I remember on the AAMC practice test a 52/59 was around a 129, but I'm sure the scales for the actual test are different. I usually use the n+7 rule, where n is the number of questions I know I got wrong on a section. Add 7 to it(give or take a couple questions) and that's usually where I'll fall in terms of total number wrong.

I think that rule sounds about right in my experience, I know I normally get about half of the questions I marked wrong and usually about another 5-7! I do mark quite a bit though, even with sections I know I wouldn't have time to go over, I usually do it to make sure I go over questions I had a close guess on and I guess that habit carried over to the real thing even though I wouldn't get to see my answers after lol.

For everyone that has just taken the June 2nd exam, would you mind sharing with me the practice scores you got for the week or two before testing, along with the company? I am trying to judge where I am comparatively since I'm taking it soon!

Kap diag: 487
Kap fl1: 497
Kap fl2: 502
Kap fl3: 502
Kap fl4: 506
AAMC unscored: 64%, 88%, 75%, 76%
AAMC scored: 126/126/128/129

I have this weird problem where I'm super motivated to take the full-lengths and review them, but on the days in between (like today) I want to take a naps and think about all the studying I should be doing. I wouldn't call it burn out or procrastination, but I know whatever it is, I'm going to regret it in 2 weeks.
Trudging through the Question Packs, Khan passages and reviewing incorrect notes currently

I am the exact same way. Today is supposed to be a study day for me, but I really have no idea what to do. It's like I've seen that I can score about a 508 on a practice test(s), now I want to just take more and hone-in on my test-taking skills so that I can stay there consistently and end up there on test day.

I feel you guys. I was planning on taking it June 2nd but my whole state filled up before I could register, so I signed up for June 18th but continued to prep for June 2nd in case a seat opened which it didn't (or I didn't see it).... So I've gotten most of what I wanted to done except for the section banks and aamc full length which I'm going to do early next week, so today I'm just in a weird funk. Working through chemistry practice problems in the EK 1001 just out of paranoia from people saying there are a lot of calculations, but my pace is soo slow right now lol.

Are other June 18th testers submitting their apps this upcoming week? I'm trying to finish up but am so stressed studying that it's hard to force myself to do it, especially when I'm not going to submit to most schools until after I get my score back.

I'm not! Then again, I have the advantage of being a re-applicant so not much to change besides my PS. I am planning on submitting the week after MCAT, though 🙂

Hey guys I need some help. I've done 6 NS tests, the 2 AAMC tests, the section bank, and the question packs from AAMC
I have access to Kaplan and just took the diagnostic half-exam (501). BUT im honestly debating if kaplan is worth it. A lot of the questions were literally asking about facts compared to interpretation. The psych section for SURE was completely different from what I've been seeing. Should I stay with Kaplan for CARS/chem/bio practice or should i just buy the other 4 NS tests and do Altius tests too? Im taking mine June 18th. Right now scores on the practice tests are about 500 border and I'm trying to get a 510+ on the real exam.

I also know I missed a question on C/P yesterday because I thought that 1/4 was larger than like 7/20 (looking at you, catalytic efficiency).

Wow, didn't think I'd be this nervous about getting our scores. Damn.

Lol I was doing that all day yesterday after the exam, but I'm trying to forget about it at this point. Want to enjoy my weekend without worrying about answers that I can't change. For what it's worth, I missed two questions in Psych/Soc after changing the answer to the wrong one at the last second. Hate when that happens.

I didn't use Kaplan that much, but it's always good to mix it up for different sections. I used Sterling for Bio/Chem and the problems were completely different from what I actually saw on the exam. Still it helped me prep for problems that may show up unexpectedly on the real thing.

Since I already have done all of the AAMC and EK stuff, do you guys recommend any other test companies? Also, compounding on my exam stress is my worry that the power will go out again. I had a nightmare last night about it. So much stress 🙁

Also, I think I may try Next step. I got a 510 on the scored and around 510-511 on the unscored, what should I be aiming for on Next Step that's equivalent to the 510?

I definitely did the same thing. Damn I thought I got that one right. I woke up today with a terrible feeling about my score.

You could give EK a try. They're really difficult but a good challenge! 3 and 4 are supposed to be the most representative, altho I didn't notice a different between 1 and 3 compared to AAMC unscored (except that I did much much worse on them due to trick questions).

Next step are pretty good and the first one is free for signing up. I think they changed their scaled scores so that they line up pretty closely to AAMC scores. So you'd hope for a 510 if that's your goal on the real thing

I think NS just slightly underestimates your score. I got about 4% less correct on NS FL2 than the AAMC unscored.

One thing I'm really wondering about is the over-representation of biochemistry on practice tests in the C/P section. It seems like everyone is saying it's hardly showing up anymore in the past few rounds on the real deal, yet the AAMC unscored was very heavy on biochemistry... I guess I should do more physics and general chemistry review with these trends.

Yeah I've seen a lot of biochem across the board so I'm worried since I haven't been able to practice genchem and physics as much.

A lot of me going over practice tests is just "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED THAT I'M DUMB"
+pissed+

I know right... even though I haven't 100% reviewed every area of content, I often don't miss things because of content errors... much more often I miss something because of some flawed logic for picking an answer/getting tricked.

It's quite the reading test, this MCAT...

Sigh.

Really can't wait to be done with this. Gonna do another FL on Sunday because 3 straight days of studying is too much -_-

Yeah I am in between feeling super excited that this is all almost over and super apprehensive because I feel like I don't have enough time until it's all over

Congrats to those of you who took the test yesterday. I hope you're all enjoying your well deserved break!!

Okay, so I had a late start to taking NS 3 and had to pause a couple of times because people were being so obnoxious in the library (it's finals week here). I ended up with a 503 (126-123:arghh:-126-128). I'm really concerned about CARS because it jumps anywhere between 123-126 on each test.. it really depends whether or not I find the passages interesting like those of NS 2 which is why I got a 126 on CARS. My other concern is timing with Chem/Phys. I end up taking rushing through the last 3 passages and at this point I shouldn't be having this issue still.

I'm scheduled for the 18th. Not sure if I should take NS 4 too or just stick to doing AAMC unscored and scored before then. Either way my goal score is a 505 with at least a 126 on Bio section.

@bisonbison NS FL 1: 510; AAMC Scored FL: 510.

I had a nightmare last night that I accidentally voided my exam, so that's how I'm doing mentally...
I keep having that thought "hope I didn't accidentally void". When I got to that page it was like something came over me and I had to get out of there as soon as possible. It's really annoying that there isn't a page that's like "you selected to score your test"

Do AAMC unscored ASAP! NS presents things in a slightly different way (still much closer than most other test-prep companies, except EK). I definitely noticed that with the AAMC, I had some easily recognizable deficits in science topics that I need to sure up.

I was planning on taking that next week on the 9th or 10th and then the scored on the 13th or 14th. I still have the section banks and q banks to do too aaahhh

Ugh at first I was all like "I hardly remember any specific questions. Yay guess that won't mean I'll start having doubts about my score".....

I just remembered a straight up FREEBIE that I missed I remember seeing it and was like heck yeah easy question! And I totally just remembered I picked the wrong answer

Tips for cars?!?!?!

If you find yourself having to do mental gymnastics to justify an answer, its probably not the right one. Heck, with the way AAMC writes things, you can talk your way into any answer. If you are stuck on a question where the ACs sound all sound right or all sound wrong, pick the answer choice that requires the least stretching of your brain cells.

Q packs aren't as essential as the scored, unscored, and section banks so save those for last and don't worry if you don't get through them! They're just questions from the old mcat, so they're good for running through and reinforcing concepts, but not a good representation of what the real thing will be like.

@Scrubs101 Lol that second or third question of C/P with the wavelength? I fell for the easy trap initially and then at the end changed my answer to the right one (I think).
oh gosh got that one wrong I guess since I have no clue what trap you guys are taking about.
